On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 59: Surprisingly Thoughtful
The two were talking when, before long, one of Silas Coldwell’s men suddenly returned, a shopping bag in his hand.
"Miss Sterling, the boss asked me to bring this to you."
"What is it?" Chloe Sterling asked.
"Clothes." The man took a few steps forward and placed the bag in front of Chloe Sterling. Inside was a black trench coat.
"I’ll be taking my leave now." After speaking, the man turned and left.
Chloe Sterling glanced at the clothes in the bag, then at her own discarded clothes nearby. The sleeves were torn and stained with a lot of blood. They were indeed unwearable.
"The Big Boss Coldwell is surprisingly thoughtful," Chase Langdon said in a meaningful tone. He paused, then suddenly added, "You got this injury because of him, didn’t you?"
Chloe Sterling didn’t say anything, which was a silent admission.
’She knew Chase hadn’t believed her previous explanation.’
A moment later, Chloe Sterling stood up. "Chase, I’m heading back now." As she spoke, she took the coat out and put it on.
The size was perfect; it fit her well.
"I’ll drive you," Chase Langdon said, getting up as well.
"Don’t worry about it. It’s a bit far from the Lockwood Residence. I’ll just grab a cab. No need for you to make the trip back and forth."
"I don’t have anything else to do."
"You should go home early. Don’t just hang around the studio all day. Has it been a while since you’ve been back?"
"You just want me to go back and help look after Jean Kensington and her son, don’t you."
Chloe Sterling’s lips curved into a smile. "No, I’m simply concerned about you."
Chase Langdon snorted but escorted her out.
Just as they reached the ground floor, Damian Rivers’s figure suddenly appeared in the lobby.
He was sitting casually in the lounge area, his gaze fixed on the two of them.
"What’s he doing here?" Chloe Sterling asked.
Chase Langdon was also a bit surprised. "I don’t know. I made things very clear to him last time. He hasn’t been here in a long while."
Seeing the two of them come downstairs, Damian Rivers rose and sauntered over. "Why are you looking at me like that? Is it really so surprising? Don’t worry, I’ve had a change of heart. I’m not here for Chloe this time."
"Then who are you here for?" Chase Langdon asked.
Damian Rivers said, "I’m here for you, Boss Langdon."
"For me?"
"That’s right. I thought about it carefully. Boss Langdon is an expert too, so asking you is just as good. I’m willing to pay a hundred times the tuition for you to be my instructor, Boss Langdon. What do you say?"
At the mention of a hundred times the price, a glint flashed in Chase Langdon’s eyes. He smiled. "Is the Heir of the Rivers trying a roundabout approach?"
Damian Rivers replied, "Not at all. I genuinely want to learn Ancient Martial Arts. If you’re willing, Boss Langdon, I can even invest in the martial arts studio."
Chase Langdon said, "That won’t be necessary. A hundred times the tuition will be just fine."
’He’d never turn down free money.’
Chloe Sterling shot him a glance but said nothing.
Damian Rivers looked at Chloe Sterling. He originally thought her relationship with Jasper was just a transaction, that there wouldn’t be any other kind of interaction. Seeing them kiss that day had left him genuinely surprised and disappointed.
However, he still didn’t believe they would end up together, so he decided not to be hasty and to take things slow. He’d get to know everyone first and see where things went.
But the memory of that scene still made his chest tighten, making it hard to breathe.
"Chloe, I never expected you to be so bold with Jasper Lockwood. I thought you were the shy type when it came to that sort of thing."
Chloe Sterling’s expression turned cold. "What do you mean by that?"
"I don’t mean anything by it. It’s just that I was there to help you that day, you know? Did you have to provoke me like that? Did you see me? Was it on purpose?"
Chloe Sterling was completely confused by his words. "What on earth are you talking about?"
Damian Rivers raised an eyebrow. Judging by her reaction, she really didn’t know. ’Then Jasper Lockwood must have done it on purpose, because he saw me with Phoebe Sinclair.’
He snorted. "So you didn’t know. It seems Jasper Lockwood can be pretty childish!"
Chloe Sterling seemed to understand what he was talking about. That day, after they left the bidding event, Jasper Lockwood had suddenly kissed her. ’Could it be because he saw Damian Rivers?’
At the thought, a blush instantly spread across her fair, delicate face.
Seeing her reaction, Damian Rivers couldn’t help but laugh. "Looks like you remembered something. I told you, Jasper Lockwood may look cold and serious, but he’s actually quite devious."
Chase Langdon looked at the two of them suspiciously. "What are you two talking about?"
Chloe Sterling quickly regained her composure. "It’s nothing. I’m leaving now."
Before either of them could respond, Chloe Sterling had left the martial arts studio and hailed a taxi by the roadside. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"What did you mean just now?" Chase Langdon asked Damian Rivers.
"Exactly what it sounds like. Jasper Lockwood looks prim and proper, but he’s actually extremely cunning. Chloe would be better off cutting ties with him sooner rather than later. Boss Langdon, you two are good friends. You should try to talk some sense into her."
Damian Rivers didn’t know the true nature of Chase Langdon and Chloe Sterling’s relationship; he had always assumed they were just close friends.
Chase Langdon said, "As far as I know, you’re not familiar with him. How would you know what he’s like?"
Damian Rivers retorted, "I’m not familiar with him, but I just know. I’m doing this for Chloe’s own good."
"You’re doing it for yourself, aren’t you?"
"Fine, don’t believe me. Let time prove everything. By the way, do you know Silas Coldwell of the Nocturne Group?" Damian Rivers asked.
"I’ve heard of him. Why?"
"He has a feud with Jasper Lockwood, and he saw Chloe with him. I’m worried Chloe might be in danger, but she won’t listen to me. You should tell her to be careful. The man in charge of the Nocturne Group is not someone to be trifled with."
Chase Langdon looked indifferent. "Oh."
Damian Rivers frowned. "Isn’t your reaction a little too calm?"
Chase Langdon: "What kind of reaction should I be having?"
"As her good friend, aren’t you worried?"
After a short pause, Chase Langdon said, "Jasper Lockwood should be able to protect her."
Damian Rivers: "..."
’He suddenly wondered if their friendship was fake!’
Chase knew that Silas Coldwell had always wanted to take Chloe away, but he would absolutely never do anything to hurt her.
His only worry was that one day, the great devil Silas would lose his patience and take Chloe by force. If Chloe resisted, she might get hurt accidentally.
Seeing Chloe injured today, this was his primary suspicion.
’But on second thought, that probably wasn’t it. Otherwise, Silas Coldwell wouldn’t have sent her here. There must be another reason.’
Damian Rivers looked at Chase Langdon suspiciously and asked, "Are you and Chloe really good friends? Or is it just a business partnership?"
Chase Langdon glanced at him. "I watched Chloe grow up. What do you think?"
"What! You watched her grow up? So you’ve known each other for a long time?"
"Heir of the Rivers, are you really here to learn Ancient Martial Arts from me?"
Damian Rivers: "...Of course. Let’s stop talking about her and get down to business."
「The Lockwood Residence.」
Jasper Lockwood was sitting in the living room when Henry Chamberlain walked over.
"Sir, all of your recent appointments have been postponed for a week. Everything for Country E has also been arranged."
"Mm," Jasper Lockwood acknowledged, returning his attention to the messages on his phone.
Henry Chamberlain stood his ground, looking like he wanted to say something but was hesitating.
Jasper Lockwood lifted his gaze to him. "Is there something else?"
After a moment’s hesitation, Henry Chamberlain finally spoke. "Sir, the third branch of the family has been eager to make all sorts of minor moves lately. Are you sure you want to leave at a time like this? The Madam is just making a house call for a patient. There shouldn’t be any danger, right?"
Jasper Lockwood’s expression was calm. "It’s only a week. They can’t cause that much trouble."
"That may be so, but..."
"Is everything I entrusted to you arranged?" Jasper Lockwood cut him off.
Henry Chamberlain nodded. "It’s all arranged."
"Then enough with the nonsense."
