Esther Sterling held her wine glass and said, "The Lockwood Family only associates with global elites. With the Lockwood Group’s influence around the world, President Lockwood’s wife naturally has to be a woman who stands at the pinnacle of society."

The other women nodded in agreement, their eyes full of envy.

Although they all came from prestigious families, there were tiers even among the elite, and the Lockwoods were on a level they could never hope to reach.

"Hey, Esther! Look over there. Isn’t that your country bumpkin of a sister?" Cecilia Stone said, looking in Chloe Sterling’s direction.

Esther glanced toward Chloe. She had spotted her earlier but hadn’t considered her worth acknowledging.

"She’s not my sister. Dad already kicked her out of the Sterling Family. I bet she’ll be crawling back to the countryside any day now."

"Back to the countryside!" Cecilia scoffed. "I doubt she can bear to leave Crestfall. Look at her, shamelessly clinging to Young Master Xavier."

A flicker of mockery crossed Esther’s eyes. "He’s just toying with her. You don’t actually think Young Master Xavier would get serious with a country bumpkin, do you?"

"Good point." Cecilia grinned, then suddenly stood up. Grabbing a bottle of hard liquor, she walked toward Chloe with obvious ill intent.

Esther and her friends looked on, eager to see the drama unfold.

When it came to messing with people and humiliating them, no one was better at it than Cecilia.

Chloe’s gaze was fixed on her phone, reading a text from Jasper Lockwood.

[Chloe, let’s leave together in a little while.]

Just then, a bottle of hard liquor was slammed onto the table in front of Chloe with a loud THUD.

Cecilia said with a smirk, "I heard Uncle Sterling kicked you out of the family. You must be desperate for cash, right? How about this? You chug this entire bottle, and I’ll give you a hundred thousand."

This was hard liquor. Downing an entire bottle would cause stomach bleeding at the very least.

Chloe’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint within them. "What did you just say?"

Cecilia crossed her arms, her tone laced with scorn. "What? Not enough for you? A hundred thousand is a huge sum for you, isn’t it? I doubt you’d make that much even if you spent a night with Young Master Xavier."

After eyeing Cecilia for a moment, Chloe suddenly chuckled, reaching for the bottle and twisting it open.

Seeing this, Cecilia’s smile turned smug. "Good, you know what’s good for you. Just make sure you finish it all. Not a single drop left—AH...!"

Before she could finish, the icy liquor came crashing down on her head. She tried to dodge, but Chloe clamped a hand on her shoulder, holding her still until the entire bottle was emptied over her head and face, leaving her utterly drenched and pathetic.

A slight smile touched Chloe’s lips. "Not a single drop left," she said with a soft laugh. "Satisfied?"

Cecilia glared at her. "You bitch! I’ll kill you!" She raised her hand to slap Chloe, but Chloe caught her wrist mid-air. With a slight push, she sent Cecilia sprawling to the ground.

Seeing this, Esther rushed over to help Cecilia up. "Chloe Sterling, are you insane? How could you do that to Fourth Miss Stone!"

"What’s going on?" Julian Xavier asked, having just returned from a phone call.

Remembering the business ties between the Stone and Xavier families, Cecilia Stone was certain Julian Xavier wouldn’t side with a mere plaything. She immediately cried out, "Young Master Xavier, this bitch Chloe Sterling is causing a scene in your bar! She poured liquor all over me! You have to teach her a harsh lesson!"

She paused, her venomous gaze fixed on Chloe, and added, "And make her get on her knees and apologize to me!"

The onlookers couldn’t help but feel a twinge of pity for Chloe. The Xavier and Stone families had business dealings. Chloe was just the disgraced daughter who’d been kicked out of the Sterling Family; she was no match for Cecilia Stone.

Julian looked at Chloe Sterling and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"

"I’m fine," Chloe replied, her expression placid.

Julian’s gaze turned back to Cecilia Stone, his voice turning to ice. "You deserved it. Who the hell do you think you are? An apology to you? Are you even worthy of hearing that?"

Cecilia froze, her face turning shades of red and white.

Esther’s face was a mask of astonishment. ’Why would Julian help Chloe Sterling? How could he!’

Julian glanced at the manager and ordered, "Call security and throw these two out! And from now on, they are banned from ever setting foot in here again!"

Hearing this, Cecilia was even more shocked. "Julian, our families are business partners! You’re going to do this to me over a country bumpkin?"

Esther quickly added, "Young Master Xavier, you can’t treat Cecilia like this." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Julian barked, "What are you waiting for? Throw them out!"

"Yes, sir."

The manager immediately summoned security, who dragged Cecilia Stone and Esther Sterling away.

Unfazed, Chloe sat back down on the sofa, pulled out a couple of tissues, and wiped her hands.

Although she hadn’t known Julian for long, their connection was deep. A few months ago, Julian had been afflicted with a deadly poison, his life hanging by a thread. It was she who had formulated the antidote and pulled him back from the brink of death.

It was because of this incident that Julian’s grandfather, Director Xavier, discovered her identity as a top-level pharmacist. He had since sincerely and repeatedly invited her to join a top-secret laboratory for an important project.

Esther Sterling and Cecilia Stone were tossed out onto the street in front of the bar. A pathetic sight, they immediately drew odd stares from passersby.

Esther had never been so humiliated in her life. She swore she would not let Chloe off the hook. She would make that bitch go crawling back to the countryside and live in the gutter forever.

Beside her, Cecilia was already on the phone. After being so publicly humiliated, there was no way she was going to let Chloe get away with it.

Soon, several bodyguards emerged from a black sedan.

"Greetings, Miss."

Cecilia pulled up a photo of Chloe on her phone and ordered the men, "You all wait here. The moment that bitch comes out, grab her for me."

The lead bodyguard glanced at the woman on the screen and nodded. "Yes, Miss."

Cecilia gritted her teeth in fury. "Chloe Sterling, I will destroy you totally!"

Esther smirked to herself. ’Looks like I won’t have to get my own hands dirty.’

’Chloe is not going to have a good time in Cecilia’s hands. Even if Julian is protecting her for now, an open attack is easy to dodge, but a hidden one is impossible to guard against.’

"Cecilia, let’s go get you changed. Your clothes are soaked," Esther reminded her.

Looking down at her soaked clothes and hair, Cecilia grew even more enraged. She snapped at the bodyguards, "After you grab that bitch, bring her to my villa in Westcroft!"

The bodyguards nodded. "Yes, Miss."

Esther and Cecilia got into their car and left, while the bodyguards remained at the bar entrance, lying in wait.

A little after 10 p.m...

Chloe received a text. She glanced at her phone, then stood up. "It’s getting late. I’m going to head out."

Julian immediately got to his feet. "I’ll walk you out."

"No need, I can go by myself." With that, Chloe headed for the exit.

Julian followed her out anyway.

In the hallway, a young man approached them. "Julian!" He paused, his eyes landing on Chloe. "Is this your girlfriend? She’s gorgeous!"

Julian shot him a look. "Don’t be ridiculous. This is Chloe, my friend."

At that same moment, Jasper and his men approached.

A subtle expression flickered across Jasper’s cold, handsome face. He quickened his pace, stopping in front of Chloe, and his lips parted slightly. "Let’s go."

What?
