On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 118: Hidden Depths
At her words, everyone turned to look at Ruby Lynch, their expressions varied.
They knew Ruby Lynch disliked this girl who had been brought back from the countryside, but it was still wrong of her to target Chloe so viciously.
Others might not have known what was happening, but Mrs. Sheffield did. The bottle of perfume was a limited edition from a high-end luxury brand called Orchid Labs, a gift from Ruby Lynch just a few days ago. Thinking back, she realized she had indeed worn this perfume every time before she fainted.
She had never used this brand before, but ’Ruby Lynch would have no reason to harm me.’ Mrs. Sheffield then asked Chloe Sterling, "Miss Sterling, are you certain it’s because of this perfume?"
"I’m certain," Chloe Sterling stated seriously. "This perfume contains a very rare scent called Mysterious Flower Fragrance. Mrs. Sheffield is allergic to it."
"Enchanting Flower!" Maya Jacobs walked over, asking curiously, "This perfume has Enchanting Flower in it?"
"Yes," Chloe Sterling continued. "Most people aren’t allergic to the Enchanting Flower. Only those with the rare Rh-negative blood type have an allergic reaction, which is why Mrs. Sheffield fainted after using this perfume. When this perfume is pre-ordered, the customer is supposed to be informed that it cannot be used by people with Rh-negative blood. Didn’t anyone tell Mrs. Sheffield?"
Ruby Lynch spoke up again. "That’s complete nonsense. Since when can people with Rh-negative blood not use this perfume? I’ve never heard of such a thing."
Chloe Sterling shot her a look, her tone cold. "That’s because you’re ignorant."
"What would a country bumpkin like you know! Do you have any idea what this perfume is? It’s a limited-edition luxury item. Most people can’t get their hands on it even if they have the money! How could it possibly cause an allergic reaction?!"
Chloe Sterling’s eyes darkened. She paused for a moment before suddenly asking, "You’re the one who gave it to Mrs. Sheffield, aren’t you?"
Ruby Lynch was momentarily speechless.
Seeing her reaction, Chloe Sterling knew she’d guessed right. "No wonder you’re so worked up," she said coldly.
Ruby Lynch’s face turned livid. "I went through a lot of trouble to get my hands on this year’s limited edition specifically for Mrs. Sheffield! Stop spouting nonsense. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to! You guessed I was the one who gave her the perfume, so you’re making all this up to drive a wedge between us."
"Drive a wedge? Hah..." Chloe Sterling sneered. "You think far too highly of yourself. You’ve never even been on my radar."
Watching Chloe Sterling’s cool and formidable demeanor, Maya Jacobs was practically smitten. Then she looked at Ruby Lynch’s face, which was as black as thunder, and had to suppress a laugh.
Ruby Lynch glared at Chloe Sterling, her eyes filled with cold fury. She desperately wanted to march over and slap her twice across the face, but with so many people watching, she restrained herself.
Chloe Sterling coolly withdrew her gaze, pulled out her phone, and dialed the exclusive customer service line for Orchid Labs’ premium members, putting the call on speaker.
"Hello, is this Orchid Labs’ customer service?"
"Yes, this is the exclusive line for Orchid Labs’ premium members. Miss Sterling, how may I help you?" a woman’s gentle voice replied from the phone.
A wave of shock went through the room.
’Chloe Sterling called the exclusive line for premium members... She’s a premium member of Orchid Labs!’
Orchid Labs was a top-tier perfume brand. Its members were all wealthy or influential, and the status of a premium member was on another level entirely.
While everyone was still in shock, Chloe Sterling’s voice cut through. "I’d like to ask about this year’s limited-edition perfume, ’Enchanted.’ Is it true that people with Rh-negative blood cannot use it?"
"That is correct, Miss Sterling. Enchanted contains components of the Enchanting Flower, and it cannot be used by individuals with Rh-negative blood, as it can cause an allergic reaction."
"I understand."
"Do you have any other questions, Miss Sterling?"
"No, that’s all. Thank you."
"You’re very welcome. It is my honor to assist you, Miss Sterling. Have a wonderful day."
Even after she hung up, the room remained shrouded in stunned silence.
"Mrs. Sheffield, you really can’t use this perfume. It would be best to throw it away."
Mrs. Sheffield snapped out of her daze and smiled. "I understand. Thank you, Miss Sterling."
’Honestly, the phone call wasn’t even necessary. I already believed her.’ Mrs. Sheffield had also recalled that she had, in fact, used that exact perfume right before each fainting spell. ’But it’s clear Ruby didn’t know. She didn’t mean to harm me.’
The others in the room also began to recover from their shock.
Mrs. Jacobs murmured, "So it really was the perfume."
Another woman beside her whispered, "That Miss Sterling is a premium member of Orchid Labs! What’s going on? Isn’t she supposed to be from the countryside?"
Ruby Lynch still refused to believe it, her voice sharp with suspicion. "How could you possibly be a premium member of Orchid Labs? Stop putting on an act and trying to fool everyone!"
Maya Jacobs exclaimed in astonishment, "Chloe, you’re a premium member of Orchid Labs? You’re so full of surprises!"
Facing everyone’s stares, Chloe Sterling said calmly, "It was a gift from a friend."
’In reality, she was one of the partners of Orchid Labs.’
’Of course, she wasn’t about to announce that in front of everyone. Even if she did, no one would believe her.’
The onlookers exchanged knowing glances. ’With a face like Chloe Sterling’s, there must be plenty of men willing to spend money on her. It’s certainly possible she got a premium Orchid Labs membership that way.’
"Oh, I see," Mrs. Sheffield said, trying to smooth things over. "But we can’t blame Mrs. Rivers for this. She certainly didn’t know, or she would never have given it to me."
Ruby Lynch’s expression flickered through several emotions. Now that things had come to this, with everyone believing Chloe Sterling, she could no longer argue. She could only say, "I’m so sorry, Mrs. Sheffield. I truly had no idea. I’m going to file a complaint against that salesperson as soon as I get home. How could they not tell me something so important?"
Mrs. Sheffield nodded in agreement. "Yes, that salesperson was certainly irresponsible."
Ruby Lynch exchanged a few more pleasantries before making an excuse to leave. As she walked out, she didn’t forget to shoot one last, cold glare at Chloe Sterling.
Once she was gone, Mrs. Sheffield turned to thank Chloe Sterling again. "Miss Sterling, thank you so much for today."
Director Sheffield chimed in, "Miss Sterling, thank you. We’re truly grateful."
"There’s no need to thank me." After a brief pause, Chloe Sterling added, "Mrs. Sheffield, please get some rest. I should be going now."
"Leaving so soon?" Director Sheffield asked. "Why don’t we have a meal together? It’ll be my treat, as a thank you."
"That won’t be necessary."
Maya Jacobs knew Chloe didn’t like to socialize with strangers, so she stepped in. "Uncle, Auntie, Chloe has other things to do, so we’ll be leaving. Don’t worry, I’ll treat her to a meal on your behalf." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Maya, dear, I haven’t even had a chance to thank you," Mrs. Sheffield said, taking Maya Jacobs’s hand.
Maya Jacobs smiled. "There’s no need to be so formal with me!"
"That’s right, no need to be formal with her," Mrs. Jacobs said with a laugh. "Let the girls go. They don’t have much to talk about with us old folks anyway. Maya, make sure you thank Miss Sterling properly. The money in your card is yours to spend freely."
"Okay, I know!" Maya Jacobs took Chloe Sterling’s hand. "Chloe, let’s go."
"Okay," Chloe Sterling agreed, and left the Sheffield residence with Maya Jacobs.
After the two had left, Mrs. Jacobs let out a soft sigh. ’Such a good kid. I really don’t know what the Sterling family is thinking!’
"So that Miss Sterling is the girl the Sterling Family brought back from the countryside?" Mrs. Sheffield asked.
"Yes, that’s the one."
"No wonder Ruby Lynch treats her that way."
