Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 888: No Honor ()
"Thank You for your choice, my fate." Alessio’s words were solemn. His tone underlined by a dark, sinister satisfaction. "I will follow closely behind."
The words struck Neveah like a dagger twisting in her gut. It was more excruciating than the crushing grip around her throat, or the burning pain in her airway as her lungs screamed for air.
Did that mean, even in death, she would not be free of him?
The mere thought of it was horrifying.
She didn’t know. She didn’t want to know.
But it wasn’t a risk she was willing to take. This cruel bond that tied her to a man who’d only ever done her harm... this bond, it had to end here.
Not tomorrow. Not a moment later. Here, and now.
On the plane of reality where she at least had some semblance of control. Because who could say what lay beyond life?
A surge of desperation curled in the pit of her stomach, banishing the resignation she’d felt and the dark spots that had already begun dancing at the edges of her vision, eager to welcome her into oblivion... permanently, this time.
But she wasn’t willing. Not anymore.
Neveah’s hands shot up, grasping Alessio’s wrist tightly. Her eyes glowed dimly as her claws slowly elongated, digging into his skin.
Alessio hissed in surprise, his grip around her throat weakened enough for Neveah to break free of his hold.
A blast of magic exploded out of her, tossing them both back. Neveah was flung against the barrier and she crashed into it, before she dropped to the ground harshly, her midriff protesting the impact.
But she didn’t pay it any mind.
A tingling sensation moved across her skin. Like something crawled right underneath, seeking an outlet to erupt.
And it did.
Her muscles spasmed, bones shifting and reforming. Fur broke the surface of her skin and her claws elongated faster than she could let out a scream of pain.
In a moment, her vision changed. The sounds, sights, smells, everything had become clearer. Sharper.
Every instinct she’d blocked out returned. She crouched, the muscles on her limbs contracting as her eyes settled on Alessio.
He watched her, gaze disdainful. And then, he shifted.
Letting go of the human skin for their truest nature within.
This was the right way to end this. With the side of her she could never fully acknowledge... the side of her she’d been forced to hide.
Memories flooded her mind. Of childhood...of the years spent living as who she was not. Till she didn’t know anymore who she was.
Her mind was still hazy. She couldn’t remember everything that had been denied her. But him...Alessio, she remembered.
Every moment he’d crushed her will flashed right behind her eyes. Every time she’d grovelled, cried out in pain or was left beaten and broken to an inch of her life.
And that final moment, bleeding out on the cold forest ground... his silhouette looming over her, claws dripping with blood.
She remembered him now.
He’d claimed fate had bound them together. That was true.
He was indeed the first mate she’d known. But he wasn’t just that.
He was also the man who owed her a debt of life. The life he’d denied her of.
Rage surged in veins. A strong urge, that distinctly familiar blood thirst creeping in until she could see nothing but red.
This time, when she lunged. She knew how this would end.
Alessio was prepared for the collision. His claws slashed at Neveah but she was faster, darting out of the way.
Both wolves of royal blood. Both skilled in battle. Both willing to die.
She lost awareness. Everything faded to the back of her mind, even her own pain.
He was a strong opponent. But she was unrelenting.
Clash after clash. Claws and canines. Blood coating their furs as the pain of one became the pain of the other.
The wounds she inflicted, she bore as well. And the pain he caused, he felt too.
Time passed in a flurry. She wasn’t sure how long it took, or when it happened but she eventually gained the upper hand.
Perhaps she’d grown stronger these years. Perhaps it was the anger and vengeance across two lifetimes.
But she pinned Alessio down, with a paw crushing his throat. She felt the pressure on her own windpipe, still she pressed down harder.
He struggled to free himself. But her grip was ironclad.
Blood pooled underneath them. Evidence of the wounds they’d both suffered.
Neveah felt it then. The mate bond they shared, once buried deeply, was now strengthened by these months she’d lived in his deception.
It protested fiercely, clawing at her insides.
And try as Neveah might, she just couldn’t...
Neveah stepped away, shifting to her human form.
Alessio lay limp, still in his wolf form. His limbs broken and twisted in odd angles.
She stood, trembling from head to toe. Bleeding from several places.
She’d lost a lot of blood. She knew it. And she wasn’t healing fast enough. But it was nothing compared to how terribly her heart ached.
She’d exacted her rage at the cost of her own pain. But she hadn’t realized the bond they shared was still this potent.
Fate had always been cruel to her. Once again, it outdid itself.
She couldn’t end it.
But that was okay. She didn’t have to. Someone else would.
Neveah turned. She wasn’t sure where she was headed. She just wanted to put some distance between them.
She staggered towards the barrier, her vision spinning.
She could hear voices all around her. Broken... pleading, but she could barely make out the words they said.
She couldn’t bring herself to think of anyone else now. Anything else.
All she wanted to do was curl up in a corner and nurse her wounds.
It was then she heard it. "Neveah!"
The voice broke through the haze of her mind. And she sensed just the barest change in the wind behind her.
Her body reacted before her mind caught up.
She spun around, a glinting blade of golden light in her hand.
This time... she didn’t hesitate.
He hadn’t. So why would she?
Alessio crashed to the ground harshly, forcing a shift to his human form. He lay, bleeding from the gash across his midriff.
Neveah felt the sharp pain, but she barely acknowledged it.
"You attack with my back turned?" She laughed weakly. "You have no honor. You deserve none."
Her words were interrupted as she coughed violently, blood spraying out of her lips.
The pain wracking through her was raw and visceral. She felt all of him... like it was her... like he was her.
It was like killing her own self.
Still, she gritted her teeth through the pain.
"I, Neveah Vairheac reject you, Alessio Terran Lothaire as my mate and King. I sever the feters of our bond. I curse the ties that bind our soul."
"May my soul be damned a thousand times, than find you again, in any life...in any version of reality."
She spat out a mouthful of blood. And turned away.
She’d only taken a few steps when her consciousness slipped. The barrier collapsed, and the last thing she felt was warmth enveloping her.
