Official Career Storm-Chapter 1363
Song Guanchao and Wu Qiangwei walked over, and the crowd immediately quieted down, making way for them.
Song Guanchao scanned through the crowd but did not see the figure of the young man from the surveillance.
"Mayor Wu." Zhou Xingjian was also attracted by the commotion here. He walked over and looked at Song Guanchao, "Director Song, what's going on here?"
Song Guanchao said, "First, let them all go back, don't gather here."
Zhou Xingjian turned around and said, "Disperse, everyone."
The crowd was reluctant, but after all, this wasn't a marketplace, and Mayor Wu was still present.
After everyone left, Song Guanchao said, "Could Director Zhou go downstairs for a bit? The police will be here soon, and I'd like you to bring them up."
The police?
Zhou Xingjian was startled. What on earth happened that the police had to be called?
"Okay, I'll go right now."
After he left, Song Guanchao said to Shu Xue, "Secretary Shu, you can go back first."
"Oh." Shu Xue knew that he must have something to discuss with Mayor Wu.
She was intensely curious, wanting to know what had happened to cause such a big fuss.
Outside the office, soon only Song Guanchao and Wu Qiangwei were left.
Wu Qiangwei asked, "Have you guessed who did it?"
Song Guanchao sneered, "Besides Mayor Zhang, I can't think of anyone else it could be."
In the whole City Government, only Zhang Yan would do such a thing, and only she had the motive.
Wu Qiangwei also suspected it was her.
The police from the nearby station arrived quickly.
In less than ten minutes, Zhou Xingjian brought five policemen up.
One of them was Xu Yang, the chief of Jinpings Road Police Station.
After Xu Yang introduced himself, Song Guanchao led them into the office.
Pointing to behind the bookshelf and under the desk.
Xu Yang turned on the law enforcement recorder, put on gloves, and very professionally and cautiously retrieved the surveillance and bugging device.
After an on-site appraisal, it was confirmed that they were indeed a pinhole camera and a bugging device.
"This kind of pinhole camera can't connect to the internet; you can only read its contents by inserting and removing the memory card."
"The bugging device, however, can listen within a certain range."
Xu Yang found it very tricky—a surveillance camera installed in a senior official's office.
This is no small matter!
"When I get back, I'll have my colleagues from the forensic department extract fingerprints."
Xu Yang sealed the items in a plastic bag, then left the office, looking around the corridor, immediately spotting one of the cameras.
"Mayor Wu, Director Song, please sit tight for a moment, I need to retrieve the surveillance footage now."
"I've already retrieved the footage."
Song Guanchao opened the surveillance video on his phone and handed it over.
Xu Yang gave him a surprised look, took the phone, and started watching.
After watching, Xu Yang asked, "Director Song, do you know this person?"
"I don't know him." Song Guanchao said, "I just started working at the City Government yesterday, so I'm not familiar with the place, but Director Zhou might have seen him before."
Zhou Xingjian had been following along the whole time, stunned by the details.
Song Guanchao's office had actually been monitored!
At this moment, hearing Song Guanchao's words, he suddenly realized and said, "Let me take a look."
He recognized him at a glance: "It's Li Song from the Third Secretary Office."
Xu Yang said, "Director Zhou, could you lead the way, please?"
"Sure."
Zhou Xingjian led the police to the Third Secretary Office, where Li Song was sitting at his desk, calmly typing away to finish a document.
As the police entered the department, everyone put down their work and stopped their conversations, turning to look.
As the police stopped beside Li Song, he finally paused his typing, lifted his head, and said, "Director Zhou…"
"Li Song, come over here, the officers want to talk to you." Zhou Xingjian did not mention the surveillance issue.
"Oh, okay."
Li Song appeared very puzzled. Judging by his reaction, he didn't seem like the culprit.
The police took Li Song into a small meeting room and began to question him: "Who instructed you to install surveillance and a bugging device in Director Song's office?"
Li Song looked bewildered, "What?"
"Bang!"
Xu Yang slammed the table loudly, "Stop pretending and confess truthfully!"
Li Song was startled by the sudden table slam.
"Officer, what do you want me to confess?"
"What surveillance? What bugging device?"
"I see you won't give up till you see the coffin!"
Xu Yang said, "The surveillance captured everything. If you cooperate now and clarify everything, I'll consider it as you confessing on your own accord. If you don't admit it, the court will impose heavier penalties later, and you'll have all the reasons to cry!"
A flicker of fear passed through Li Song's eyes, though he masked it well, but Xu Yang caught it.
This assured Xu Yang that Li Song was indeed involved.
He hadn't expected this young man, not very old, to be so calm and poised, lying during a police interrogation.
"Take him back."
Xu Yang stood up and decided not to question further, intending to continue the interrogation back at the station.
"Why are you arresting me? What exactly have I done?"
"Director Zhou, what on earth happened?"
Li Song acted very angrily.
Zhou Xingjian said, "Xiao Li, I advise you to come clean. No matter what, this is an unsavory story, and spreading it around could affect the City Government's image. As long as you're honest, there's a chance for redemption."
"Director Zhou, what are you talking about?" Li Song became increasingly angry.
His response made Zhou Xingjian start to have second thoughts.
Could it be that he went to Song Guanchao's office not to install surveillance?
But for something else?
"Take him away!" Xu Yang wasn't interested in his act, opened the door, and found Wu Qiangwei and Song Guanchao.
He reported the results of the interrogation to them.
Song Guanchao pondered for a moment, then spotted Li Song being escorted out of the small meeting room by the police.
He walked over and asked, "Are you Li Song?"
"Director Song."
"Who instructed you?"
Li Song said, extremely agitated, "I told you, it wasn't me!"
Song Guanchao said grimly, "I just started working here and don't want to make things ugly. So, I'm willing to give you a chance."
He pointed to the pinhole camera in the police officer's hand, "This kind of pinhole camera can't connect to the internet. You have to insert and remove the memory card to see what was recorded inside."
"So, whatever you did after installing it was captured by the camera."
Song Guanchao took the sealed bag containing the camera, "If you're willing to talk, everything can be considered lenient."
"If you don't talk, I'll have the police check the memory card right now."
"Once it's confirmed to be you, you'll be dismissed from your public post and party membership, prosecuted, bear criminal responsibility, and serve jail time."
Song Guanchao took a cigarette out of his pocket, lit it, and said, "You're still young, don't sacrifice your future over someone else's matter."
"Before I finish this cigarette, tell me your choice."
Blue smoke curled upward, hazily drifting before Li Song's eyes, making him squint.
The strong front he had been putting up began to crumble under Song Guanchao's words.
The consequences laid out by Song Guanchao were like seeds of fear sprouting and amplifying that terror.
He seemed to have lost track of time until Song Guanchao puffed out the last bit of smoke, "Have you decided?"
Li Song raised his head with a flicker of conflict in his eyes. His lips were dry, unnoticed until now.
His throat moved, and his voice turned hoarse, "I'll talk."
