Nyxfall 7: The Veilbreakers-Chapter 70: Second Try At Grimhorn Den 6
They were inside. The last boss room.
With 40% HP, which was the highest among the three and belonged to Kai. Second was Xterminate07 with 34% HP, and then Bella with below 15% HP. Needless to say, they were no boss-defeating party.
The boss was seated atop a polished white bone throne, looking straight at them.
It was a colossal alpha beast—a terrifying hybrid of a horned bear, wolf, and bull. Its muscular body was coated in black fur streaked with blood-red runes, with massive spiraling horns and eyes like burning embers. There was a corrupted rune-core glowing with dark energy in its chest.
An enormous, sharp, white bone sword was buried in the ground beside the throne, looking ominous.
Looking straight at them with its burning eyes, the boss grabbed his sword and stood up. The guy was walking with all the patience in the world towards them, breaking from his stupor—Kai shook the two beside him, grabbing their shoulders.
"We have time, heal up."
Both Bella and Xterminate07 realized what they were there to do and immediately started eating food and consuming healing items. Kai shot an arrow aimed at the other side of the boss room near the throne, and he too started eating hurriedly to get his health up as much as he could in a few seconds. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
The boss was coming closer with each of his land-shaking steps forward, the sword placed on his shoulder like he was some berserker.
Kai only had 4 MP. If he used Godstep once, he couldn’t use it again without blacking out. Once they had each eaten two or three items, Kai was about to tell them to run from the side. However, the boss had reached the middle of the room and, without a single word, the guy just slammed his sword with a powerful force on the ground—aimed toward them—and a giant dark sword slash headed straight at them, scorching the dirt land along the way.
Only seconds—they had to react. Kai quickly grabbed the two and used his Godstep to get out of the way of the attack. The second he came behind the boss, Kai started releasing arrow after arrow straight at the guy’s head. Even with the enormous, heavy sword, the boss quickly used it like it weighed nothing to block each of Kai’s arrows. But one did land—Kai had aimed that one toward its legs. While protecting its head, the boss missed that one arrow.
A measly -70 damage showed up on the guy’s head—Ghor’mak, The Horned Tyrant. The name was revealed, and along with it, the HP bar:
4930 HP remaining.
"Five thousand HP!?" Bella said in shock.
"Stay alert.. And split up. Survive as long as you can," Kai said as he ran right to the boss in a wide circle.
Xterminate07 and Bella nodded as he left, and each ran in a different direction. It was a clever way to survive since the boss wouldn’t be able to focus on them.. However, that was for the normal ones. This one was made to make players scream in rage.
Ghor’mak raised his two hands up, closing his burning eyes as if praying, and in the next second, over 40 Grimhorn Stalkers and 50 Bonegnashers were summoned all around the boss room—and all headed straight toward the three players present in the room.
"Shit!" Kai cursed as he cleaved through one Stalker after another—all teleporting beside him as if he was giving away free food or something.
He couldn’t even spare a look toward the other two as Stalkers jumped on him from all around. Kai dodged at blinding speed, judging attack directions before they could even land, and even went as far as to pull out another sword, going full demon time on all the beasts surrounding him—but there was just no end to them.
He kicked a few, killed a few, and jumped out of the way from most, yet he was still surrounded by just as many as he had started with. The HP bars showing the members of the party had all been greyed out—those two had died already- It was a bad decision to spilt up. He didn’t have a second to think or pull back or get away—Kai was just waiting for his MP to go from 2 to 3 so he could use Godstep again. He just had to survive for another couple of minutes.
His HP was being chipped away slowly, but the full hunger bar was fighting to keep it stable. He could do this.. But he forgot where he was.
Suddenly, the Stalkers left and ran away from around him, and a massive black sword slash—cutting even the land beneath—headed straight toward him.
Kai stupidly tried to parry it, but it was too fucking strong. It pushed him back, dragging his feet through the ground below and finally slamming him into the dirt wall behind him—all his HP draining at once as he scattered into thousands of red particles.
As his vision blacked out, Kai saw the hateful face of the Horned Tyrant staring straight at him as it retracted its blade—once again putting it back on its shoulder, as if it had just taken care of the trash and was now going to sleep for a while.
Kai gritted his teeth and appeared in the revival zone, still gritting his teeth. But then he exhaled, shaking his head.
Those were the Nyxfall bosses for you. He remembered all his teenage years going on a vengeance journey to solo each dungeon because he thought the bosses were being too arrogant in front of him. The thoughts he had at that time.. It made him laugh now.
But he still couldn’t get the feeling out of his mind that those boss monsters, with so much advantage over them puny players, sure were being arrogant.
But their day will come. Ghor’mak too will die by his hands sooner or later.
If he was keeping a measure of arrogance..
His was the highest of all bosses.
