Chapter 18: Nice A Level Up

Leo smiled at the older woman before replying, ’’Well, you better be a good girl, and I won’t tell a soul.’’

When Helena heard that, she shivered, blown away by the memories of the ravaging she’d just received. Leo chuckled at the woman’s reaction, but she quickly got up and went to help the girls.

He opened the balcony door and stepped outside, feeling the cold air brush against his skin. While standing there, he spent 100,000 Charm Points on the common spins to increase his status even more.

Following that, Leo was happy with his status before sitting down and relaxing while admiring his new world. He drifted to sleep while the others learned about their classes and magic.

A few hours later, explosions rocked the castle, causing Helena to run onto the balcony, ’’Leo! The Demons are attacking the city!’’

Hearing this, Leo smiled and followed the older woman as the two girls joined him. The soldiers rushed about as they met up with the other heroes, who were panicking but were calmed down by Emperor Dorian.

When the older man spotted them, he smiled, ’’Helena, we must keep the newly summoned heroes in the castle. The Monster Wave has broken through the wall and is running rampage throughout the city.’’

’Should I test out my new spells? It could be fun,’ Leo thought.

Following that, he snuck out of the hall while grabbing Roxy’s hand as she spoke, ’’What are we doing, Leo?’’

’’I’m going to test out my power, and if I get hurt, you will help me,’’ he replied while passing by the guards.

Once outside, Leo picked Roxy up into a princess carry and shot off, thanks to his new speed. The soldiers looked shocked but didn’t bother him as the emperor ordered them to leave them be. Soon enough, the duo spotted the first monster, which looked like a walking pig.

’’What the fuck is that horrible thing?’’ the blonde questioned.

Leo shrugged before putting her down, aimed his hand at the walking pig, and cast Thunderbolt at the thing. When the spell collided with the monster, an explosion rang out, which sent other creatures flying off due to the shockwave.

With a flick of his wrist, he summoned a glowing orb of fire in his palm, feeling the heat build before launching it. The Fireball exploded in their midst, sending flames roaring outward, roasting flesh and forcing several of the creatures back with squeals of pain.

He raised his other hand without a beat, calling forth crackling electricity bolts. With a fierce shout, he unleashed Thunderbolts that shot through the air, striking his enemies with blinding light flashes.

The pig-like creatures convulsed as the lightning tore through them, filling the air with the sharp scent of ozone and burnt flesh. One by one, they collapsed, their bodies smoking. Leo was enjoying himself as Roxy spoke excitedly, ’’Amazing! It’s like spells from anime but more destructive.’’

Leo laughed as he continued attacking any monster they encountered, noticing soldiers grouping up on others. While walking down one street, a wolf lunged at him from a nearby alleyway, but he used California Smash to turn the thing into bloodmist.

Roxy stayed close while healing him from the scratches the attacking monsters inflicted on him. After killing the tenth creature, a notification popped up.

[Level Up: 0>1]

’Nice a level up!’ Leo thought as the sun started to set.

The duo spent another couple of hours hunting for monsters until a group of imperial guards approached them. A man stepped forward and spoke respectfully, ’’Hero Leo, the emperor would like to see you.’’

His blue eyes narrowed at the man before he nodded when he saw his new level, ’’Lead the way.’’

[Level Up: 1>4]

The Imperial Guard nodded before turning around and moving with purpose, his armor gleaming under the setting sun as he led Leo and Roxy through the streets back to the palace. People were cleaning up while others tended to the injured.

Civilians paused to watch, murmuring in awe as the small group passed. Leo and Roxy walked close behind, their eyes scanning the grand buildings surrounding them, the palace’s towering spires growing larger with each step.

As they approached the palace gates, the man glanced back, giving them a nod of reassurance. ’’We’re almost there,’’ he said firmly.

Neither replied, as the other students, empress, and emperor were waiting for them outside the entrance. Leo noticed the look of worry in Helena, Luna, and Ashley’s eyes, which caused him to give them a charming smile.

That’s when Dorian spoke, ’’Leo, what do you think you’re doing? A Monster Wave is a dangerous event in the empire.’’

Leo narrowed his eyes in annoyance, saying, ’’I’m not weak at all, and handled the monsters while protecting Roxy.’’

Dorians’ eyes widened as the commander informed the emperor, ’’Your Majesty. Hundreds of soldiers can provide written statements about Sir Leo’s fighting prowess, which was impressive for someone summoned only yesterday.’’

He watched Dorian look at him like he was a rare treasure, which caused him to smirk, ’You’re fawning over the man that stole your wife, what an idiot!’

Following that, the emperor approached him like a creepy salesman. Before he could speak, Leo said, ’’I want to kill monsters outside the city to level up. Will the group be going out?’’

The older man quickly nodded, ’’Yes, you will be split into smaller groups to take out as many creatures as possible.’’

’’Sounds good to me; I’m going to get something to eat as using all that mana made me hungry,’’ Leo replied as the emperor quickly agreed with a nod.

Dorian turned to Helena, ’’Take them to the dining room, my love; I will get the other heroes set up in their groups.’’

The older woman smiled before glancing at Leo with a knowing smile before she strode confidently through the grand halls, leading Leo and Roxy toward the dining room. As they passed, servants paused mid-conversation, their eyes widening in surprise at the sight of the newcomers.

Murmurs rippled through the crowd, and curious glances followed their every step. Leo caught snippets of whispered questions and gasps, but Helena walked undeterred, her gaze fixed ahead as she spoke, ’’That was reckless, Leo, but I understand why you did it; next time, just be careful.’’

He shrugged before replying, ’’I was fine, and Roxy would have healed me if anything happened. If I’m honest, I enjoyed the fighting and leveling up.’’

When Helena heard this, her eyes widened in surprise, and she asked, ’’What level are you now? One?’’

Leo shook his head before answering, ’’Four.’’

The older woman’s eyes widened in awe before she reached a door, which she opened and motioned toward the nearby table. ’’Sit down and get comfortable; I will get the kitchen staff to make you some food.’’

After ten minutes, Helena returned with a warm smile, stopping just short of the table. ’’The maids will bring out your food shortly,’’ she said. ’’I’d love to stay, but duty calls and I have some matters to attend to.’’

As she turned to leave, the older woman paused at the doorway, glancing back over her shoulder. With a playful glint in her eye, she blew Leo a quick, teasing kiss before stepping out of the hall, her figure disappearing into the corridors beyond.

’’Looks like you’ve completely won her over, babe,’’ Roxy said, excitement sparking in her eyes. ’’With her on your side, you could be ruling an empire of your own someday.’’

Leo laughed when hearing this, ’’Maybe, but I want to enjoy myself. Now, I don’t have to worry about the end of the year exam or college.’’

Roxy giggled, nodding in agreement. A few minutes later, a group of maids entered, pushing a trolley laden with steaming dishes. They moved gracefully, setting plates before them with practiced ease.

The aroma was rich and inviting, and Leo wasted no time, reaching for a slice of bacon-like meat. As he took his first bite, the smoky, savory flavor made him pause in appreciation, and he quickly returned for more.

Roxy joined in, savoring the meal as she and Leo chatted about their magic techniques and plans for monster hunting beyond the city walls. Once they finished, two figures appeared at the entrance: Lirael and Nadia. The elven maid stepped forward with a warm smile.

’’Allow us to guide you to your rooms,’’ she said, her voice smooth and welcoming as she gestured toward the hallway, inviting them to follow.

Leo nodded and stood up, followed by Roxy. The two followed the maids, as the palace was busy as other staff cleaned the floors or walls. While walking, Lirael explained, ’’We have visitors from the Greenshade Empire to the east; they are elves like myself.’’

’Oh, interesting; maybe we’ll travel to the elf’s homeland? I wonder what trouble I could cause there,’ he smiled.
