Noble Pampering: Demon CEO's Relentless Entanglement-Chapter 684 - 680 Back to His Side (3)
Returning to the Land Family’s old residence once again, Sophie Smith felt a bit more at ease compared to before.
As she walked into the East Garden, servants immediately came out to greet her, their respect was apparent.
The skill of these servants in observing and interpreting the situation was profound. They all knew that after Nathan Land’s death, the one holding the power in the Land Family was not Enzo Land, but the three Land brothers, among whom Asher Land held the greatest power.
Back when Sophie was still living at the Land Family, the servants could easily see how the third young master felt about Sophie, so their complete turnaround in attitude towards her now was unsurprising.
The servants were all referring to her as ’Miss Smith’ left and right, clearly showing the demeanor of welcoming a mistress back home.
While in the car, Alexander was coaxed to sleep by Asher Land. Sophie intended to take Alexander back to the room to rest, but before stepping on the stairs, she encountered Irene Morton coming down from upstairs.
This kind of awkward encounter was something she had imagined. She knew Irene would never leave Asher Land easily, and considering the past affection he had for Irene, he naturally wouldn’t drive her away.
"Sister Sophie, welcome back." Irene’s face carried a slight smile, but to Sophie, it felt somewhat pale and powerless.
"Irene..."
Sophie really didn’t know what to say to her. The things Irene did to her before, she couldn’t just pretend they never happened. She wasn’t a saint; it’s just that, many times, she would choose to keep the peace and didn’t want to get into conflicts with others.
Asher Land saw the two women standing there, noticing that something was off in their expressions.
"Sophie, take the child upstairs." He spoke from behind them.
"Okay..."
Asher Land offered her a way out, and she naturally took it. She took Alexander back to the room and gently closed the door.
Inside the room, still styled in black and white tones, it was filled with his presence everywhere. Being back here, imagining being by his side every day, and seeing him as soon as she opened her eyes felt truly wonderful.
She placed the child on the bed, carefully tucking him in, choosing to linger in the room for a bit longer without much resistance.
Irene always made her feel cautious; she didn’t know what kind of relationship she should have with her in the future.
Downstairs.
Irene stood by the spiral staircase, holding the handrail, her gaze fixed straight on Asher Land.
Asher Land stood a few steps below her, slightly looking up.
"If you have something to say, just say it." He had initially intended to go upstairs to see Sophie and the child, but Irene had been blocking his way for quite some time.
"What I want to say, you surely won’t like to hear." Irene stepped down a few steps, keeping only a single step’s distance between them. They were close enough that Irene could see the hint of impatience in Asher Land’s eyes.
"Sister Sophie..."
"If you want to talk to me about Sophie, then there’s no need." Asher Land mercilessly interrupted Irene.
As soon as Irene began to speak, she was met with cold indifference, naturally making her upset.
In truth, Sophie’s return had significantly increased her pressure. Although they did have a marriage agreement in the past, that was all during Nathan Land’s lifetime. Now that Nathan Land had passed, no one could control Asher Land, and both of their engagement parties were personally ruined by him. Looking at the situation now, he might be having second thoughts.
