No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 650 - 648: So Tactless [5th Update]
At the same time, it was a demonstration to Liam Spencer, a subconscious declaration of war; the current Morris Clan was no longer what it used to be, and he was determined to bring Maya Spencer back.
When everyone was enjoying the conversation, Christopher Scott arrived.
Sophia Bennett’s eyes widened the moment she saw Christopher Scott, and a radiant smile appeared on her lips, like coming back to life.
However, the next second, her smile disappeared, because she saw that Christopher had brought a girl with him.
The girl was none other than Sarah River, whom he had gone on a date with last time.
Suddenly, Sophia wilted, thinking to herself, it’s over, it’s over, it seems Christopher Scott really likes another girl now, as if she no longer stood a chance at all.
Everyone knew about Christopher’s dating, but him bringing a girl to the gathering was still a small surprise.
Then, all eyes fell on Sophia Bennett.
Everyone present knew about Sophia Bennett’s deep affection for Christopher Scott.
Sophia sat on the sofa, seeing the looks from others, she immediately shifted her gaze away from Christopher and quickly pulled out her phone from her bag, pretending to look at it nonchalantly.
But her heart felt like it was being cut, wanting to get up and leave immediately, yet unwilling to let anyone see her displeasure, she had no choice but to act as if nothing was wrong.
Actually, she didn’t need to pretend, because even if she did, no one would believe she wasn’t hurting, no one would believe she could gracefully accept the presence of another girl beside Christopher Scott.
Despite that, what could Sophia Bennett do? Even if she had a hundred impulses in her heart to drive Sarah River away, what right did she have, what status?
So, she had to be an observer, listening to Christopher Scott introduce Sarah River to everyone.
The men managed well, greeting her was enough to know her, but women often formed cliques, and Ella Turner saw Sophia was avoiding looking directly at Sarah, so she too lowered her head to play with her phone, pretending not to know her.
Maya Spencer looked at the two girls on either side, feeling tears trapped behind her eyes, so she stood up, smiling, and said, "Miss River, hello, nice to meet you."
"Miss Maya, you’re too kind." After Sarah River finished greeting, her eyes fell on Sophia Bennett.
Sophia Bennett’s relentless pursuit of Christopher Scott was known by everyone in the circle; she actually admired her persistence for not giving up after so long. The awkward part was that she seized the opportunity, but such matters of the heart weren’t for others to say, if Christopher Scott was interested in her, there’s no need for him to go on dates with others.
Though Sophia was playing with her phone, her peripheral vision lingered on Sarah River, seeing Sarah stare at her, she took a deep breath, set the phone aside, stood up leisurely, and smiled, "Miss River, nice to meet you."
Though Sophia Bennett inwardly had a hundred unwillingnesses to know her, she had no choice but to perform the courtesy. Even if she didn’t care about her own face, she had to consider Christopher Scott’s. It was him who brought her, he couldn’t be embarrassed, so she had to make herself uncomfortable.
Sarah River was a bit surprised at Sophia Bennett’s poise, finding her a bit different from the rumors, she wasn’t as straightforward and reckless.
Sophia’s initiative to greet left everyone stunned, though they knew Sophia’s temperament had softened, they hadn’t expected her to endure so well; previously, she would have exploded and fallen out with Christopher Scott, and fought with Sarah River.
On the main sofa, Christopher Scott saw the forced smile at Sophia’s mouth and felt a certain satisfaction, thinking this time Sophia Bennett should finally give up!
"Miss River, hello!" After Sophia greeted, Ella Turner immediately followed with a greeting to ease the sudden chill in the air.
After Sarah arrived, Liam and the others stopped talking about work. To them, she was still an outsider, so they discussed the current market situation more formally.
Sarah River saw Sophia Bennett clinging to Maya Spencer and Ella Turner, felt awkward to break into their close-knit trio, nor did she force herself in, so she joined the group of men for conversation.
At 11 o’clock, Sophia Bennett said it wasn’t early and got up to leave first.
Afterward, Liam Spencer took Maya Spencer and left too; subsequently, the crowd dispersed.
When Christopher Scott returned home, it was already one o’clock in the morning, yet his mind was still filled with the image of the sullen Sophia Bennett.
He realized that Sophia Bennett didn’t cast her eyes on him tonight, this feeling made Christopher feel quite delighted, as if he had shaken off a big trouble.
Sitting on the sofa, he pulled out his phone from his pocket, realizing Sophia hadn’t sent him any texts tonight.
He hadn’t enjoyed such quiet in a long time; previously whenever he received Sophia’s texts, he felt almost annoyed, yet ultimately had to keep his promise to reply.
Christopher thought, had he known dating could make her give up, he should have done it earlier, used this tactic long ago.
Unfortunately, before his delight could settle, a message notification arrived on his phone.
"Damn..." Upon seeing the message was from Sophia Bennett, Christopher couldn’t help but curse, clearly he had celebrated too soon.
Christopher opened the message, only seeing the words "Good night!" unlike usual, she didn’t even ask if he was home.
Christopher stared at Sophia Bennett’s message, feeling a bit annoyed, thinking she lacked tact.
However, he had promised Sophia, as long as she adhered to their agreement, only sending three messages a day, he would respond. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Christopher was worried that if he didn’t reply, Sophia might bombard him with messages and questions; so even reluctantly, Christopher sent her back "Received" — his response was always just those two words across over eighteen hundred replies.
The only comfort for Sophia was that even if it was just two words, he kept his promise, replying to every message she sent.
In Sophia’s bedroom, she lay on her side on the bed, staring fixedly at the message from Christopher Scott, scrolling through the messages for a long time, scrolling until her phone got stuck, without seeing the top of the string.
But Christopher’s replies were always just "Received."
Before, seeing him reply would bring her some excitement and joy, even believing he wasn’t that hard-hearted towards her.
Now, seeing his consistent replies, Sophia felt stifled, deeply uncomfortable, even suspecting Christopher might have set up automatic replies, so that whenever he received her messages, it would send "Received" without ever reading them.
However, when she carefully checked the time of his replies, sometimes early, sometimes late, she knew they were sent personally by him.
Even so, what did it prove? He still didn’t like her, still liked other girls.
Thinking of Christopher bringing Sarah to meet his friends, Sophia’s mood became oppressive, her chest ached.
So she put her phone aside, hugging a pillow tightly to her chest, turned off the lights, and tried to sleep, but couldn’t, her mind lingering on thoughts of Christopher and Sarah.
She thought all night, wanting to talk to Christopher, even if the result would be embarrassing, she still wanted to find him and ask him plainly.
Thus, she grabbed her phone and dialed Christopher’s number.
