No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 616 - 614: A New Official Takes Office [Update 1]
Maya Spencer listened to this nonsense, finding it ridiculous, thinking to herself, when did she and Liam Spencer have a falling out? How laughable, can’t people in a relationship even argue?
Maya took a deep breath and bit her lower lip, saying, "Fine, I can go to the company, but it may not be effective."
If because she pushed James Bennett, she ended up ruining the Bennett Clan Group, she’d be horribly guilty; this is James Bennett’s painstaking effort.
"Thank you, Miss Maya, I will arrange the shareholders’ meeting immediately. The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 10 am, does that work for you?"
"Alright!" Maya nodded in agreement.
She had attended a shareholders’ meeting at Hanson Clan Group once, but that time every shareholder collaborated to remove her from her position. Anyway, shareholders just don’t like her; she only hopes this time not to mess things up for James Bennett.
Though Isaac Bennett had made a will leaving all his assets to Maya, she isn’t yet leisurely enough to manage them.
After Alexander Thompson left, Sophia Bennett scrutinized Maya from head to toe, asking skeptically, "Maya, can you do it?"
In Sophia Bennett’s eyes, Maya is just a little girlfriend; she’s hardly ever seen Maya do any serious work aside from following Liam Spencer.
Maya, seeing Sophia’s doubt, indifferently rolled her eyes at her and said abruptly, "It’s just persuading them not to withdraw shares, what’s so hard about it."
Actually, Maya felt it was incredibly difficult, worse than doing science experiments at school; she thought, had she known, she should’ve studied finance rather than life sciences.
Maya felt like she had a waterlogged brain; everyone she knew was making money, yet she had studied an unrelated subject; feeling like crying but without tears, she hoped to clarify the relationship between her and Liam Spencer to the shareholders tomorrow, so they wouldn’t stir up trouble, or else she would be at a loss.
So, at 9 am the next morning, Alexander Thompson drove to the hospital to pick up Maya.
To make Maya appear impressive, Sophia Bennett specially sent her a professional suit and helped dress her up.
Maya originally wanted Sophia to accompany her, but Sophia said if she went, everyone definitely would think Maya lacked confidence and was easy to bully, leading them to escalate their demands even more recklessly.
Reluctantly, Maya went to the company alone with Alexander Thompson.
Maya arrived at the company’s conference room at 9:55 am, five minutes before the shareholders’ meeting, with most shareholders already present except for a few who hadn’t arrived.
Maya sat in the middle of the spacious office, watching the shareholders on both sides whisper and point fingers at her, feeling uneasy inside.
She knew her identity was unique: at one moment she was the Spencer Family’s fifth lady, at another the Hanson Family’s eldest daughter, then the fiancée of Kinsley Spencer, now the fiancée of Liam Spencer. Today, everyone saw her in person and as the heir of the Bennett Clan Group, naturally leading to whispers and criticism.
Maya took a deep breath, raised her left hand, glance at the watch, noting that it was already 10 o’clock, and there was one shareholder missing; without thinking much, she knew that guy was the instigator.
As Maya lowered her left hand, she saw a middle-aged man hurry in, nonchalantly asking, "Assistant Thompson, I didn’t arrive late, did I?"
Maya looked at the man’s arrogance, casually rolled her eyes at him, grabbed the materials in front of her and threw them on the table, her face sternly serious, saying, "Since everyone is here, let’s start the meeting."
Then she said, "Let me first give everyone a self-introduction. My name is Maya Spencer, and I am Chairman Bennett’s daughter. During his illness, I will serve as acting chairman. Once Chairman Bennett recovers, he will personally manage the company."
Maya decided to announce that James Bennett would manage the company himself after recovering because she knew that after such a turmoil, James Bennett wouldn’t be at ease and would definitely return to work at the company, so she announced it in advance.
"Chairman, we want to withdraw our shares, please handle it promptly without wasting time," no sooner had Maya finished speaking, and the man interrupted, clamoring for withdrawal.
"Yes! We’re getting old and don’t want to fuss anymore. Just return our shares and let us retire peacefully!"
"Chairman, please handle this promptly! After all, this company would exclusively be yours, and you can do whatever you want."
After the man led the clamor for withdrawal, the shareholders followed suit, clearly distrusting Maya, who was previously ousted by shareholders at Hanson Clan Group, making her even less credible.
As if the company under her tenure was doomed to fail, they wouldn’t allow their assets to depreciate.
"Dear leaders, Miss Maya only started today, isn’t this a bit unfair to her? At least give her some time to familiarize herself with the company and everyone before handling the withdrawal," Alexander Thompson hurried to mediate the situation, as a stalling tactic.
"What’s there to get familiar with? Perhaps she can’t ever grasp the company even in a lifetime, better to handle important matters quickly, return our shares!"
"Does the company intend to hold our money and not give it to us?"
Maya, witnessing everyone kick her while she’s down and not giving face to Assistant Thompson, boiled with anger.
Though she didn’t understand management, Maya also wasn’t one to be easily bullied. Don’t think she could be easily pushed around because her temper improved recently, anyhow, the money’s in the company, and the company’s in her hands, she could just drag it out without returning, what can they do about it, truly laughable.
Maya crossed her arms, half-squinting, watching everyone argue without saying a word.
Maya’s calm puzzled everyone so much that the conference room immediately quieted, silently waiting on her decision.
Seeing the shareholders stop causing a ruckus, Maya finally uncrossed her arms, grabbing the pen on the table, lightly tapping it on the surface, seemingly unconcerned with their uproar.
After a moment, she unhurriedly and indifferently said, "Since you wish to withdraw shares, first submit a written report, after reviewing and signing, of course, I’ll let you withdraw; but I’ve just taken office, cannot sign off on all reports at once. In January, I’ll sign off on withdrawal for two people, as to who these two are, you all can discuss it among yourselves."
Maya disliked such groups of subordinates wanting to undermine James Bennett, thus she’d let them fight amongst each other first.
In conclusion, she’d only sign two withdrawal applications this month, and as to which two, naturally those with the least shares; she wouldn’t foolishly let major shareholders abscond with the Bennett Clan Group’s cash.
