No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1905: Hayes Edwards Extra (62)
The team was neatly arranged, under the scorching sun, strong and rhythmic shouting constantly echoed.
As noon approached, the sun moved, and the area of shade from the trees became smaller and smaller. Places that could initially provide shelter from the heat were now occupied by the blazing sunlight.
Beads of sweat fell in large drops, seemingly evaporating as soon as they touched the ground due to the heat.
The last class on Monday afternoon was self-study. Grace Winter spoke to the homeroom teacher briefly before running to the playground with an insulated lunchbox.
Each class had a different break time, so when Grace arrived, Hayes Edwards’ class was still in training.
Hayes stood in the last row of the team, his posture very standard.
Grace was about to greet him, but then thought of something, withdrew her hand, and waited obediently with the lunchbox.
Hayes also saw Grace, and after the team disbanded, he thought for a bit and walked over, "Why are you here?"
Upon seeing Hayes, Grace immediately broke into a smile, "Hayes Edwards, I came to bring you something to eat."
The weather was sultry, especially in the afternoon. The ground, baked by the sun for hours, radiated heat upwards, making it impossible to feel cool even under the shade of trees.
Hayes felt irritable from the heat, and seeing the insulated lunchbox made him feel even hotter, "I won’t eat; you can have it yourself."
"Huh?" Grace felt a bit disappointed, "But I specially brought you this mung bean soup, and it’s still icy."
Hayes was about to leave but then sat down again, extending his hand, "Give me the spoon."
Grace smiled again, her eyes curving like sunflowers, "Okay."
Having a bowl of iced mung bean soup in such weather was indeed a rare treat.
When chubby kid found out, he drooled with envy, "Grace, could you help me bring a portion tomorrow too?"
The grade director had stipulated that only water was allowed during military training.
Joy Hoffman raised his hand, "Me too! Please, Grace!"
Grace nodded, "Sure, I’ll bring three portions tomorrow."
Hayes felt inexplicably annoyed, "You don’t find it troublesome?"
Grace thought for a moment, "Actually, bringing one portion and three portions is about the same."
Hayes: "...Whatever."
In the following days, the three of them enjoyed the iced mung bean soup Grace brought every day.
A week of training passed like this, followed by the regular course schedule.
There were many differences between middle school and elementary school in terms of start and end times, and even though they were still neighbors, Hayes and Grace saw each other less often.
When Hayes realized, he found that he hadn’t seen Grace, his chatty little sidekick, for a whole week.
"Grace, huh." Chubby kid replied while eating chips, "Yeah, I saw her yesterday at noon after school, chatting in Helena’s small shop, and she even treated me to ice cream."
Joy nodded as well, "Yeah, I saw her too. She was taking out trash with Helena, and I just happened to run into them and helped them carry it over."
Hayes: "..."
So he was the only one who hadn’t seen Grace for a whole week?
Is that silly girl deliberately avoiding him!
But that doesn’t make sense; since kindergarten, Grace has always liked to follow him around, going everywhere with him, even once almost following him into the boys’ restroom...
Chubby kid noticed Hayes spacing out and realized something, "Brother Edwards, you really haven’t seen Grace at all?"
Hayes tensed his face, looking displeased.
Joy hurriedly covered chubby kid’s mouth, "Brother Edwards, this kid is talking nonsense!"
