No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1866: Hayes Edwards Side Story (23)
Moreover, with that pretty and outstanding face alongside Grace Winter, it drew even more attention.
Hayes Edwards was so annoyed, but since Father Edwards was there, he didn’t dare be mean to Grace. He reluctantly held her hand, "Let’s go."
Grace didn’t notice Hayes’s reluctance at all. She obediently said goodbye to other classmates, "Bye, brothers."
A sweet smile and soft voice, it simply warmed people’s hearts.
"Hayes’s little sister is really cute."
To Chubby, hearing this was like praising his own sister, so he nodded in agreement, "Of course, Grace is the cutest."
After returning home, taking advantage of the adults being busy, Hayes called Grace over.
He spoke to her fiercely, "From now on, you’re not allowed to pick me up at the school gate."
Grace hugged her doll, puzzled, "Why?"
"There’s no ’why,’" Hayes was irritated, "You’re just not allowed to pick me up, and you can’t tell others you’re my sister!"
Grace stared blankly at him, tugging at her doll’s braid, and asked again, "Why?"
Her voice was soft, such that even acting like a parrot was endearing in the cutest way.
But Hayes didn’t like it; he was so angry, almost boiling over, feeling ashamed, "No reason, just not allowed!"
Grace was startled by him, stepping back slightly, her eyes widening. But soon she seemed deflated, like a balloon losing air, "Hayes Edwards, do you not like me?"
She pouted, looking like she was about to cry at any moment.
Many people didn’t like her, not even the kids at kindergarten.
"I..." Hayes gritted his teeth, "I just don’t like you, so what!"
Grace looked at him, feeling very wronged, her eyes turning red.
Hayes thought she would at least say, "Then I don’t like you either," and then Grace would run off.
At worst, he’d get spanked later; after all, he didn’t like Grace, his little shadow.
But Grace didn’t run, nor did she cry.
She only stepped forward cautiously, tugging at Hayes’s clothes, speaking in a small voice, "But I like you, can we still be friends?"
Hayes was her only good friend.
Hayes: "..."
Ugh! So annoying!
Even with a temper, he couldn’t express it.
Hayes felt like he was too good of a person.
On the weekend, Hayes and Chubby planned to play together in the neighborhood.
He opened the door and saw Grace standing at the entrance.
Wearing a little hat, overall pants, and a shirt with a strawberry pattern.
"Hayes Edwards, can we go downstairs and play?"
Her round eyes looked like crescents when she smiled.
Hayes: "..."
Oh well, one more time wouldn’t hurt.
"Let’s go." He took his hat and put it on, closing the door.
Grace looked at him, her eyes bright, "Hayes Edwards, can we hold hands?"
Just like the time at the school gate before.
Hayes blew the bangs on his forehead and reluctantly reached out his hand.
Grace became even happier and hummed a tune all the way down the stairs.
The little buddies waiting downstairs were all delighted to see Grace, especially Chubby, who gave up his snacks and surrounded Grace.
"Grace, Grace, do you remember me?"
They hadn’t seen each other in a long time.
Grace was eating cookies while nodding, "I remember, you’re Chubby brother."
