Nine Nether Dragon Emperor-Chapter 26: Renowned in Destiny City with Just Two Swords, That’s All!
Some people shook their heads and sighed, while others watched the commotion with a laugh. Upon hearing this, Number One and his group felt relieved instead of anxious. How formidable could some local riffraff and a gambling den’s enforcers be?
Seeing Number One’s disdainful expression, the person who had just spoken immediately took offense. "What’s with that look? Let me tell you, every single one of them has entered the Profound Realm!" he said, his voice dripping with superiority. "You must be outsiders. This is the Prefecture Capital. Don’t you dare use your provincial standards to measure us here in Destiny City!"
Number One just smiled and said nothing. The Profound Realm? Is that supposed to be scary? It’s not like the Young Master hasn’t killed cultivators at that level before!
"Hmph! Stubbornly ignorant!" The man snorted coldly, his face a mask of arrogance as he looked toward the alley. He was eager to see the young man dealt with to uphold the prestige of Destiny City.
Inside the alley, Ning Xuan was still retreating. After a single glance at Hou San, his gaze locked onto the men behind him. Hou San hadn’t been the one to covet his Storage Ring; he was clearly being used as a pawn.
When he could retreat no further, Ning Xuan asked, "Are all of you from the Prefecture Capital so cautious?"
Thinking Ning Xuan was talking to him, Hou San immediately started cursing. "Cautious my ass! Why don’t you take a piss and look at your own reflection? A piece of trash like you? I could crush you with one finger!" Since he had already forced the kid into a dead end, he figured he could toy with him at will.
"Then you’d better watch closely..."
Ning Xuan hadn’t even finished speaking when the pupils of the men behind Hou San constricted. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"What’s happening? It feels... a little cold, a little painful..." Hou San mumbled as he touched his neck. He looked down at his hand and saw it was covered in blood. Only then did he notice the sword in Ning Xuan’s hand.
"You... you... I..." His eyes filled with terror. He turned to cry for help, but after staggering just two steps, he collapsed face-first onto the ground.
Outside the alley, someone screamed, "What happened?! Is Hou San... dead?"
Inside the alley, one of the thugs exclaimed, "Such a swift sword!"
"Friend, this is a misunderstanding! We’re not with him!"
"That’s right! We’re from the Chang Le Gambling Den. We saw that you have an extraordinary air about you, Young Sir, and wished to invite you over for a visit."
The five men backed away as they spoke. Having knocked around the gambling dens for years, they were worldly enough to recognize a Storage Ring at a glance. They had expected a huge score today, never imagining the young man was a master. None of them had even seen him draw his sword! Only now did they understand what he meant by "watch closely."
Ning Xuan frowned. "The Chang Le Gambling Den?"
"Yes, yes, that’s the one! It’s the biggest gambling den in our Prefecture Capital! Of the thirty-six cities under the Prefecture Capital’s jurisdiction, at least half have one of our branches!"
Ning Xuan shook his head. "Never heard of it."
The color drained from the faces of all five men. "Our boss’s cultivation is at the Eighth Layer Heavens of the Profound Realm. He’s protective of his own, but he loves making friends with heroes from all walks of life. If you could grace us with your presence..."
Ning Xuan cut him off. "Are you threatening me?"
"Not at all! Not at all!" the men cried inwardly. This guy was impervious to both threats and persuasion!
Suddenly, the three men at the back exchanged a look. In a single motion, they shoved their two companions forward, turned, and bolted. But they stopped just as quickly. The young man had appeared in front of them, his back to them. On the chilling blade of his sword, a bead of blood was rolling toward the tip.
THUMP!
Only then did the sound of the two bodies hitting the ground behind them finally register.
Outside the alley, a hush fell over the crowd. The young man’s sword was astonishing, but what was even more so was his audacity! The Chang Le Gambling Den was a true behemoth, even in the Prefecture Capital, yet he had killed their men without a moment’s hesitation after learning who they were. Oh, right. And the Brotherhood! They were another major power, controlling all the waterways in Dong Yang County. Their ranks were said to exceed a hundred thousand! This youth had offended two massive organizations at once. He truly had guts!
THUD!
Behind Ning Xuan, the three remaining men fell to their knees, begging for their lives.
"We’re sorry! We were wrong! Please, Young Hero, be merciful and spare our worthless lives."
"We were blind and failed to recognize a great man! We’ll slap ourselves to apologize!"
As they pleaded, the three men knelt and began slapping their own faces furiously.
Ning Xuan turned to face them and said coldly, "If apologies were useful, weapon shops would go out of business."
"The worst you can do is kill us! Are you really going to be so merciless and wipe us all out?!" Realizing their pleas were useless, the three slowly got to their feet, preparing to fight for their lives. The youth was only seventeen or eighteen. If the three of them fought together with everything they had, they might just have a chance.
"He’s only at the Tenth Heavens of the Spiritual Realm! What are you three cowards afraid of!" A voice suddenly rang out, seeming to come from everywhere and nowhere at once, making it impossible to pinpoint its location.
Ning Xuan’s heart tensed. Although his true cultivation was at the Eighth Layer Heavens of the Spiritual Realm, he hadn’t used much Element Force in his attack. For someone to pinpoint my Cultivation Realm with an error margin of only two layers... they must be terrifyingly powerful! As expected of the Prefecture Capital, a place of crouching tigers and hidden dragons! I must be extra careful from now on. Unable to locate the speaker, all Ning Xuan could do was remind himself to be cautious.
"The Tenth Heavens of the Spiritual Realm?"
"You’re only at the Tenth Heavens of the Spiritual Realm?"
The three men were stunned. Since it had come to this, Ning Xuan decided to go along with the mistake and nodded in acknowledgment.
"Damn it! You little bastard! You’re only at the Tenth Heavens of the Spiritual Realm, what gives you the right to be so arrogant!"
"Fuck, we were almost fooled by you!"
"You goddamn mongrel, you really deserve to die!"
The three men straightened up, glaring at Ning Xuan as they unleashed a torrent of curses. They were all in the Profound Realm, yet they had been intimidated by a little brat from the Spiritual Realm. It was the ultimate humiliation!
"Little beast, tell us, how do you want to die?!" The three sneered, looking at Ning Xuan as if he were already a dead man.
"You three idiots! His sword is fast! It can instantly kill someone in the Profound Realm!" It was the same voice, ringing out abruptly.
The men’s hearts tightened, and they all took a step back, their guard raised.
Ning Xuan’s eyebrow twitched. "Watch closely!"
As his words fell, the sword flashed.
Even though they were prepared, the three men still couldn’t dodge the attack.
One sword, three deaths.
As he swung his sword, Ning Xuan didn’t even look at the three men. The moment he moved, he whipped his head around, his goal to find the owner of that voice.
"What a fast and strange sword!" A voice whispered directly into Ning Xuan’s ear. A secret sound transmission!
Ning Xuan instantly dashed to the alley’s entrance, his gaze like lightning as he scanned for anyone suspicious. In just a moment, his powerful Spiritual Sense locked onto a figure. Without hesitation, Ning Xuan moved to approach.
Behind him, the scene of the slaughter was swarmed by a crowd of onlookers.
Before long, news that a young Swordsman at the Tenth Heavens of the Spiritual Realm had slain five Profound Realm Martial Warriors with two sword strikes spread throughout Destiny City! The Brotherhood, the Chang Le Gambling Den, and even other powers in the city were all alerted and sent people to investigate the youth’s origins.
「Meanwhile, in a secluded part of the city.」
Ning Xuan finally caught up with the person who had sent the transmissions. Although he knew the other party had deliberately lured him here, Ning Xuan felt no fear.
Ning Xuan asked, "Sir, may I ask why you did that?"
The person answered honestly, "Naturally, I wanted to see just how far you have cultivated your swordsmanship."
"And what did you discern, Sir?"
"My old eyes are dim. I couldn’t see clearly. Therefore, I’ve decided to test it out for myself."
As he spoke, the man turned around.
"It’s you!"
