Nightmare Assault-Chapter 485: Morgue
“Perhaps he wanted to see the mistake that he had made end here.”
“Do you mean… He wishes to see Director Qi die here?” Weiwei gasped. She sounded more shocked than in disbelief.
The important thing was to figure out the old director’s cause of death. Dying from a ghost attack and from illness were utterly different. They corresponded to the ghost’s attitude. From the ghost's treatment of the old director, they could derive many details.
“I’ll leave this to you. I’ll go investigate Xiang Nan’s family.” Kui Yi stood up. They were running out of time. Based on the looks of things, the time constraint might be tighter than they imagined.
“I’ll go with you.” Cao Yang stood up. He picked up the coat draped on the chair, but…
A hand landed on his shoulder. Cao Yang turned to see Kui Yi’s face. “It’s no need.” Kui Yi added, “I can go alone this time.”
Cao Yang’s eyes widened. Cao Yang had personally witnessed how dangerous the mission could be. It was indescribable. If they were careless, they would end up like Lee Kaifeng and Du Feng. In this situation, everyone hoped to remain together. Plus, when they first arrived in this world, Kui Yi informed them seriously that they had to stay together. So why…
“Cao Yang, you can come with us.” Jiang Cheng patted his shirt and stood up. “Kui Yi is experienced. Plus, it’s easy for him to do things when he’s on his own.”
Cao Yang’s impression of Kui Yi was not bad. He was worried that something bad would happen to him.
“Be careful.” After nodding at everyone, Kui Yi left on his own. Jiang Cheng knew that the man had something that he didn’t want to show the others. This was neither a tactic nor an attitude that someone who had survived one nightmare should have. Jiang Cheng knew that Kui Yi felt the same about him. However, it was unavoidable. If he didn’t do anything, the mission would process too slowly, and more people would die.
Thankfully, Kui Yi was unlike the other players who would sacrifice newbies to survive. Or else… Jiang Cheng looked at the door. He wouldn’t allow him to live until then. Since Lin Wan ‘Er was there, Jiang Cheng acted more rationally.
After Kui Yi left, he naturally became the core.
“Mr Jiang.” Weiwei whispered, “What should we do next?”
“Visit the morgue,” Jiang Cheng answered firmly.
“Do we have to go now?” Yu Yu looked uncomfortable. Not too long ago, she was a free university student. She hadn’t gotten used to this.
Lin Wan ‘Er glanced out the window. She added, “If we don’t go now, we might have to go at night.”
“We… could wait until tomorrow morning.” Wang Changguo looked nervous. He blinked quicker than before. “Today, we’ll just focus on the hospital…”
“I don’t think we’ll have the time.” Jiang Cheng shook his head.
“Mr Jiang.” Cao Yang asked him. “Have you discovered something?”
Jiang Cheng noticed their fearful gazes, and he sighed, “Do you remember the time Director Qi assigned us?”
Yu Yu’s face darkened. “He said… we only have three days!” She corrected, “Two days!” But he said that yesterday.
“So… we only have one day left.” Jiang Cheng looked melancholic, which was rare. He frowned. There was one more thing that he didn’t tell the rest. He had his own guesses about this mission. Everyone’s focus was on finding the truth, but they forgot about the nature of the mission. They arrived at the hospital because the ghost wanted to kill Director Qi. It was why he paid so much money to hire them to protect him. In other words, their mission goal was to ensure Director Qi’s safety!
If their employer died, then the mission would fail. This had nothing to do with the ghost. This was a race against time. Either the ghost killed Director Qi first, or they found out the truth and chased the ghost away first. Director Qi had set a time limit.
Three days. They only had three days.
Director Qi wouldn’t have imposed an arbitrary time limit. That was probably how long the ghost had given him. Once the time was up, no one could save him.
Jiang Cheng glanced at the clock on the wall. The needle hands moved slowly. They only had 30 hours left. However, many things still eluded them. It was inevitable. This happened too suddenly. Plus, most of his teammates were newbies.
“I’ll stay to guard the room.” Wang Changguo hurriedly volunteered, “There are too many variables. If no one stays behind, I’m afraid…”
Jiang Cheng gave him a cold stare. This was a pure coward. Previously, he was the first to vote that they had given up on their teammates. Wang Changguo withered under Jiang Cheng’s gaze, but he insisted on staying. For an experienced society member, he didn’t care about losing face. If he did, he wouldn’t have defrauded older adults to buy his cheap supplements in real life. Here, his life mattered more. What was shame?
Wang Changguo straightened up and stared back at Jiang Cheng. He had a scoff on his face. This man was so much younger than he was. He was led astray because he was inexperienced. But the young man suggested that they visit the morgue. Had he lost his mind?
Plus, he suspected something was going on between Kui Yi and Jiang Cheng. They appeared to be helping the team, but who knew the truth?
They might have known each other beforehand and were trying to set up the rest of them.
The others might be tricked, but not him!
