Nightmare Assault-Chapter 476: Please
“If they don’t return after the sky is dark, could something have happened to them?” Cao Yang was worried about the two missing teammates. Unfortunately, no one could answer him.
TAP TAP TAP
Clear footsteps came from outside the door. Then, the door opened to reveal an unfamiliar face. He looked like a doctor with his white coat. He looked around 30. He wore a pair of black glasses. They hadn’t seen him before.
“Who among you is Doctor Kui?” The doctor asked as he glanced at the note in his hand.
“He is out.” Jiang Cheng answered, “You can tell me what you need to tell him. It’s the same.”
“When he’s back, please tell him to refill the form at the inpatient department.” The doctor stressed, “He has to do that today.”
Jiang Cheng glanced at the dark sky. He turned back to negotiate, “It’s getting late. Can he do it tomorrow?”
“No.” The doctor shook his head. “There are issues with his registration information.”
Weiwei came forward and said politely, “How about this? When he’s back, I’ll tell him to call the inpatient department. If there’s any issue, we can talk on the phone. Can you leave us the department’s phone number?” Weiwei turned to look for a pen and paper.
The doctor waved his hand. “There’s no need to look. That phone is broken.” He pointed at the only phone inside the room. “Please don’t make this difficult for me. I’m just following orders. How about this? You can inform Director Qi and get him to inform the inpatient department.” No one heard the rest of the sentence because they glanced at the old phone on the wooden table. They reacted after the doctor left.
“Broken?” Yu Yu gasped. “How is that possible? Kui Yi used that to contact those people before he left.”
Cao Yang’s face whitened. Jiang Cheng walked forward. He picked up the phone but didn’t put the receiver to his ear. He glanced at the small monitor. The monitor looked normal. It even showed the data and time. Weiwei sighed in relief. It looked like the doctor was mistaken. After all, he must be busy with many things. So…
The next second, Weiwei sucked in a cold breath. At the same time, Yu Yu and Wang Changguo did the same. Cao Yang swallowed nervously. His fists tightened.
Jiang Cheng moved the wooden table. Behind the table was a mess of electrical wires. The wire connected to the phone was torn apart with brute force. The severed end was wrapped in red tape, with the inner metallic wires exposed. The phone wasn’t even connected, so how did Kui Yi make the calls? Based on what Yu Yu said, he made more than one call. A chill grabbed their hearts.
“What is going on?” Wang Changguo panicked. When Kui Yi made the call, he was just behind him. He clearly heard the voice of the person on the other end.
“Was the person… on the other end not a human?!”
Wang Changguo’s words triggered everyone’s fear. The thing that unsettled them was that Kui Yi and Du Feng had departed to meet the person. And that person… was a ghost. Then, they didn’t know anything other than that.
After that, Jiang Cheng turned to Lin Wan ‘Er. Yu Yu was frozen. “How long has it been since they left?”
Lin Wan ‘Er thought about it. “About an hour ago.”
Kui Yi was not a newbie. He knew how dangerous it was to stay out at night. Since he hadn’t returned, it could only mean that something bad had happened.
As Jiang Cheng tried to figure out what to do, something unexpected happened.
RING
Weiwei, who was close to the phone, stumbled back. She took a few steps to steady herself. She glanced at the glowing monitor. Panic coloured her eyes. The phone rang.
Someone was calling!
“Don’t answer it!” Cao Yang shouted. Her state was only slightly better than the girls. Everyone was thinking the same thing. The ghost was calling!
The group allowed the phone to ring. A few seconds later, the ringing ended. However, it wasn’t because the other party had given up, but someone had picked up the phone.
Yu Yu’s lips trembled as she watched Jiang Cheng put the receiver beside his ear. She didn’t dare to make a sound, afraid that the ghost could hear her.
“Hello?” An anxious voice said.
Jiang Cheng could tell that it was Kui Yi.
“Can you hear me?” Kui Yi whispered. There was a slight echo. He appeared to be inside a small space. Jiang Cheng could hear his breathing. However, Jiang Cheng didn’t plan to answer. He was only going to listen.
The other party didn’t waste time. He started to explain the situation. “I’m trapped. Du Feng is with me. We are still alive.” After swallowing, Kui Yi continued, “I used my phone to make this call. I don’t know why it’s working. We didn’t leave the hospital. We are trapped inside the stairwell. We took the stairs to leave, but the stairs… didn’t seem to have an end.
“When I realised something was wrong, it was already too late. We are trapped here. We have tried going up and down. There is no end in sight. There is no mark to pinpoint where we are, not even the floor number. We haven’t encountered anyone else.
“By the way,” Kui Yi suddenly remembered something. “Do not call those numbers. They might be cursed.”
Jiang Cheng wanted to tell him the cursed thing wasn’t the number but the phone.
“I think we’re caught in a haunted loop.” Kui Yi took a deep breath and said sincerely, “I know this is a big ask, but… I beg you to come and save us. I hear that a haunted loop can only be broken with external intervention.
“If you come here, you might disrupt the ghost enough for us to seek an exit.
“If you don't…” Kui Yi paused. About ten seconds later, he resumed. This time, his tone was filled with helplessness. “Ten minutes later, we… will attempt to leave from the corridor.
“If we die, or disappear, remember, if you run into a haunted loop, do not leave from the corridor. The corridor is not going to help.
“Think about something else.
“Now… Please come and save us.” Kui Yi’s voice pulled at their hearts. “Please!”
