Nightmare Assault-Chapter 378: Danger
Chapter 378: Danger
Jiang Cheng stopped moving and turned to look at something. They had reached a split in the pedestrian crossing. The place was secluded. They were near an old neighbourhood. Before the neighbourhood gate was a deep-green bicycle shed. There were old shops around them.
“Fire Phoenix KTV.” Fatty saw a half-lit sign above them and had a bad feeling. Jiang Cheng stared at the nearby black cars that had their plates partially covered. He announced, “We’re here.” Jiang Cheng told the two, “Do you see that milk tea shop? Wait for me over there.”
“Doctor,” Fatty asked as he stared at the signboard of the old KTV. “What is your plan?”
About two hours later, Fatty, who was spacing out with a straw on his lips, felt a tap on his shoulders. Chu Jiu pointed at the KTV. “Look. He’s out.”
The three met up at a hidden corner. Seeing Jiang Cheng expertly counting the paper notes, Fatty had a feeling this man was an ATM machine in his previous life.
Jiang Cheng, who reeked of alcohol, shoved the money into his pocket and smiled with satisfaction.
Fatty looked at him with confusion. Then, he gasped, “Doctor, do you plan to buy information in Room 717?” Could they buy information from the ghost? While everyone was trying to avoid the ghost, Jiang Cheng focused on how to befriend the ghost.
“Can the ghost’s words be trusted?” Fatty shivered.
Jiang Cheng narrowed his eyes. His face was flushed. “We are not afraid of her lying, but that she might not speak.”
…
“Hey.” Wei Jingting asked, “Is there a need to repair this laptop?” He carried the old laptop out. He wanted to toss it far away. After all, it was haunted. However, that was not Liu Guo’s intention. The reason he gave was solid. The laptop might have more clues that Wei Jingting missed.
“When it’s fixed, you can hug it back to your room and watch it yourself.” Wei Jingting huffed.
Liu Guo smiled. “Sure.”
Wu followed the two. He didn’t join their conversation. He didn’t seem interested in the laptop. After they left the apartment, they took a right. They walked along the main street and finally found a computer repair shop at the street corner. Liu Guo took the laptop from Wei Jingting and entered the shop. Wu and Wei Jingting waited outside.
“I say… Brother Wu.” Wei Jingting sidled over shamelessly. “I realise you’re not much of a chatter. That is not a good habit. In the mission, we need to communicate more so we can survive happily…” At this point, he paused because Wu turned his head. A pair of cold eyes stared at his shoulder, where Wei Jingting’s hand had landed.
“Hehe.” Wei Jingting licked his lips and pulled his hand back. He rubbed them shyly. “Do you know how to fix computers?” He asked Wu.
Wu glanced at him. “No.”
“You have to be lying.” Wei Jingting stuck close to him. He narrowed his eyes. “I feel like you must know how to do that. If you have that skill, we wouldn’t need to come here.” Wei Jingting continued to ramble. “You knew they couldn’t fix it. This will be a waste of money.”
Wu stopped moving. He lifted his chin slightly. “Are you sure?” His tone was eerily calm.
Wei Jing suddenly felt the air around him become colder. Even the sun on him dimmed. A dark cloud had floated above him to blot out the sun.
Wei Jingting was surprisingly stubborn. He stared at Wu’s half-revealed face. The next second, he grinned. “Now… I’m certain.”
“It won’t do.” Liu Guo’s voice travelled over. He carried the backpack and shoved the laptop into it. “They said the thing is fully broken. Even if they can fix it, we do not have the time to wait.”
Wei Jingting pressed his lips, making an annoying expression. He gasped with exaggeration, “That is bad. I was just talking with Brother Wu about what we should do if the thing cannot be fixed.”
“It looks like we’ll have to tackle this from another angle,” Liu Guo sighed.
“Let’s check out the cafe,” Wu uttered. Wei Jingting and Liu Guo turned to him. Ever since they became a group, he hadn’t given any suggestions. He was always following other people’s suggestions.
“Didn’t you say the cafe appeared in the video?” Wu explained slowly, “We might discover something new there.”
Wei Jingting paused before whispering, “Won’t it be dangerous?” He acted scared as he rubbed his arms. “After all, Lu Huaxu died there.”
Wu suddenly laughed. His voice contained a rare and unique gentleness. “Don’t be scared. It’s dangerous no matter where you go if you deserve to die.” Strangely enough, it appeared like only Wei Jingting heard his latter sentence. After Liu Guo stopped a cab, he took the passenger’s seat. After they got into the car, they hurried to the cafe.
…
When it was around noon, Jiang Cheng’s group returned to the apartment. As they crossed the front door, they encountered Banana Wolf’s group. Hua Luo sat in the corner and was the first to spot them.
“Why are you back already?” Chu Jiu asked.
Wan Xiaoning, who leaned on the pillar, said calmly, “We were waiting for you.”
Jiang Cheng scanned their faces before focusing on Banana Wolf’s face. He didn’t say anything, but his expression was strange. He was not scared. He was befuddled.
“Did something happen?” Jiang Cheng asked directly.
“It’s nothing.” Banana Wolf changed the topic. “We were waiting for you because we wanted to share some information with you. We just came back from Yu Youwei’s model agency and discovered something new.”
While Jiang Cheng’s group waited for the explanation, Hua Luo suddenly interrupted, “There are too many people here. Let’s move to somewhere quieter.”
Jiang Cheng narrowed his eyes and nodded. “Okay.”
With Hua Luo leading the way, they came to a tea shop. They found a quiet private room on the second floor. Once the door closed, Banana Wolf began, “We found Yu Youwei’s former colleagues. They confirmed that Yu Youwei and Lee Maoshen hung out a lot.”
“Hung out a lot.” Chu Jiu asked, “Were they not a couple?”
Banana Wolf sighed. He accepted the cup of tea from Hua Luo. “It means they both did not treat the relationship seriously. Yu Youwei changed her partners in the same way she changed her clothes. Lee Maoshen was even worse.”
Banana Wolf pressed his lips. “When he was with Yu Youwei, he already had a girlfriend.”
