Netheril’s Glory-Chapter 65: Golem.
The flesh golem invented by the mage named Walker could almost be said a kind of alchemy life form. This method used the flesh and blood of various creatures as raw materials. Although it might be a little inferior in strength compared to those steel Golems, it made up for this deficiency with its recovery ability that other alchemy golems did not have.
In terms of the control mechanism, the Flesh Golem completely abandoned the method of the implementation of virtual souls. Instead, It adopted a process where a tinkered real soul was inserted inside the Golem as the control mechanism. And by implanting a real soul into the Flesh Golem, there was a certain chance that some of the characteristics of the used creature would be preserved. Therefore, it was even possible for the flesh golem to possess a certain innate spell from the subject's soul.
But the price was that the difficulty of making Flesh Golems was a lot higher than other methods.
Punk was standing inside the White Tower. The large living room had no "excess" furniture, except for the alchemy experiment table with many alchemy supplies; the entire living room did not even have a chair. Punk, who already replaced sleep with meditation, was not bothered by these small "time-wasting" daily life issues. He was now reading the alchemy notebook word by word.
After looking through it carefully, Punk's brows frowned. Although the production of the Flesh Golem only required some common alchemy spells, but the complexity of its operation was so complicated that even the system was having a little difficulty analyzing it.
Unlike the "disposable products" like alchemy potions, the production of golems required more detailed steps and more cumbersome structural adjustments, as well as extreme patience to overcome uncalculated problems. These seemingly inconspicuous details would have a huge impact on the finished product, the Golem.
In one word, it was -difficult, in two words-very difficult, and in three words- really, really difficult. This was a perfect description of the production process of the flesh golem.
But Punk was not someone who would be easily demotivated by difficulties. Anyway, as an official mage with long life, he had a lot of time to study these cumbersome details, and also, with the system's assistance, many theoretical fine-tuning operations could be quickly discovered, adjusted, and maybe even improved, which would be absolutely impossible for other mages to do.
"But, first, I should use some low-level materials to practice a little."
"As for the possible low-level materials!"
Punk turned around...
"Those two should be OK...."
The poor two horses were suddenly tightly bound by some flexible vines, and they seemed to know the terrible fate that would follow, so they began to struggle wildly as if fighting for their life!
"Noisy…"
The screams and struggles of the two horses did not last long and disappeared without a trace with Punk's lethargy spell.
Without the interruption of loud noises, Punk could finally concentrate on experimenting.
The first step was to draw out the soul of the test subject.
There were many ways to extract souls, but in all of them, it was a very delicate process as it was very easy to harm the extremely fragile souls....
With the continuous faint sound of chanting, a blue stream of brilliance became more and more bright in Punk's hands; after a few moments, from the bright brilliance, a small blue thread came out and then drilled into the horses' forehead, and with Punk's gentle tugging, a bright spot flashing with blue light was pulled out. This was the soul of a low-level creature.
A low-level creature's soul, such as an ordinary horse without intelligence, couldn't form any concrete shape at all, so the appearance was such a basic blue light spot.
After putting the horses' soul, which was full of panic and other negative emotions, into a small gem to seal them, Punk continued to deal with the horses' corpses.
Then Punk cast a spell called "Leather Peeling," which was just a overly powerful version of the cleansing spell, the horses' skin, as if lost their molecular attraction, was easily stripped from the horses' to the ground. Without the skin, the red muscles and blood vessels became visible on the horse's body.
Punk summoned a sharp etheric energy knife, and manipulated the translucent blade very flexibly in the air, and easily torn open the horse corpses, then took out the internal organs in an orderly manner, then cut the muscle tissues one by one, and put these away, and finally removed useless fat and lymph.
In the face of Punk's skinning skill that was not inferior to a skilled butcher, two complete horses was quickly divided into different parts, like, muscles, fats, internal organs, bones, leather, souls, and so on!
Now the next few steps were very tedious; these were, drawing the formation runes, splicing the muscles into a human form, implanting bones in the middle as support, attaching spells to flesh and blood to strengthen its toughness, and continuous use of spells such as fusion and refining to ensure that every part of the Golem was connected as closely as a natural creature......
After Punk had completed all these steps, finally, the main body of the Golem was built.
Looking at this already formed Golem, Punk finally understood why those alchemists like to accept one or two apprentices; If nothing else, just to let them complete the low difficulty but really tedious steps of of this process. Although alchemists were known for their patience, still the low efficiency was just too much.
Like the current Punk, to make the main body of this Golem, he spent one whole night and one full morning putting these body parts together, which were just like a troublesome puzzle. Now it was already noon of the next day!
"Hooooo~~"
Punk sighed faintly.
"It seems that when Lo Lan comes over to receive the new batch of potions, I have to ask her to help me recruit one or two apprentices to do the miscellaneous works. I really can't stand this much waste of time."
The remaining steps were transforming the soul, adding the control mechanism, and deleting the unnecessary feelings and memories.
However, no creature wanted their soul to be modified like editing a document, especially since this process was indescribably uncomfortable and extremely painful.
So, under the fierce "unyielding" resistance of the horses, Punk was unsuccessful at the first try and damaged the first soul beyond use; even at the second time, he greatly damaged the second poor white horse's soul before barely completing the transformation. The reason for this kind of obvious failure was not that Punk's techniques were not skilled enough, but because of the fierce resistance of the horses' soul. Because of it, Punk had to use some more violent means to forcibly implant the command rune, which led to the soul being in conflict with the control formation, so the final result was unsatisfactory.
Seeing this result, Punk couldn't help but sigh again. Only the lowest level of flesh and blood golems were so difficult to make; he now discovered why there were so few combat golems.
At this time, Punk vaguely thought of the automated mass production of his previous life. If the golems could also be mass-produced, then he would be able to command a truly terrifying army, even if such a mass-produced golem was just cannon fodder in strength.
Or maybe, it would be more convenient to just find a plane of undead and catch a high-level undead then control a army of low-level undead with its help! There was also the option of plundering a few small planes and enslaving its populations!
These ideas were quickly dismissed by Punk. These highly difficult plans were not something that the current him could implement.
Now the most noteworthy thing was...... how big the difference there would be between the performance of the first Golem he maid and his required performance?
According to his estimate.........awfully big!
Punk carefully implanted the soul of the transformed horse into the body of the Golem without any real expectation!
