Chapter 62: Chapter Sixty-Two: She’s Hiding Something.

Suncity, Tomorrow town.

~~~
The expectation everyone had about Narika, since after she got fired from work and also the public humiliation that could have made stay away from anyone didn’t entirely work out.
The ideal human being would have locked herself indoors, and cry from now to whenever until she’s ready to face her life again. But Nah, Narika was more than that, she was stronger than any other girl existing in Tomorrow town.
Rather than giving her family a room to be bothered about her, especially her mother who was skeptical about going to work today. She had made herself useful in the town library. Narika had always been the reading type, and her working as a barista didn’t give her much time to enjoy her hobby quite well.
But well, here she was trying to get her mind off the burdens on her shoulder by getting the books from the library, and going to get checked out by the librarian.
"Hi Narika, it’s been a while since i saw you. How are you doing lately?" Mr. Brooks asked with a smile, she doesn’t even know whether it was genuine or not because the town has given her a reason not to trust people that easily anymore.
Mr. Brooks was a lovely old man, who was happily married to Sarah. Although their marriage had a problem, and that was Sarah’s inability to have a baby. His love for his wife didn’t die, rather they had sought out another option by adopting Brian, who could never wish for anything more than to have the best parents like them in his next life.
Apart from that, Mr. Brooks seemed not to have that judgemental look on his eyes, while he was checking her out, after she exchanged a brief pleasantry with him, unlike the others who wanted to shoot her down with their eyes.
Not that it bothered her though, afterall all what was she expecting trusting a betrayer like Zoe Wintergreene? If she has sat down to think of this real good, she could say that she made a fool of herself thinking that any normal medium would help her with Adrik.
But that doesn’t still change the fact that Morgana was a mistake, and she was responsible for her death.
"Well you are good to go now, do have a lovely day Narika and extend my greetings to your parents, will you?" Mr. Brooks said, raising his hands up to her as she hesitantly high fived him and returned a smile back to him. That has been a habit of his that would absolutely never die. But at the same time she craved to be that open minded like him.
Without having much to do anyway, Narika checked her time to see that it was almost time for her mother to clock out for today at the hospital. So, she decided to pay her a surprise visit.
She waited for her at the lobby, until Marya walked out of a door to find her waiting for her while carrying a bag of groceries she bought, so they could prepare dinner tonight, together just like old times.
"Hi mom." Narika smiled, making her way towards Marya, who looked stressed out but seeing her daughter now all that was long gone.
"You should have told me that you were coming, I would have checked out on time." Marya complained before kissing her cheeks, and cupped her face to look at her. Luckily this time around, there were no dark circles under her eyes, she looked normal.
"I wanted to surprise you." Narika explained.
"Yeah, but i wasted some time because i was doing absolutely nothing there. I couldn’t help it, I’m too lazy these days." Marya said, grabbing her hand as they exited the hospital.
"You are getting old, mother." Narika reminded her with a giggle escaping her lips.
"Shut up. I’m not." Marya said, rolling her eyes at her as they went to the garage with Marya opening her car, and sliding into the driver’s seat with Narika sitting beside her.
"So, what did you do today?" Marya aked on their way home, as she looked from the road to Narika who shrugged her shoulders.
"Nothing much, I just went to the library. Mr. Brooks sent his greeting, he doesn’t ever change." She smiled, recalling his warm personality.
"Well that’s because some people are too good for this world, and no matter what happens. They stay unique. " Marya said.
"I guess so." Narika mumbled, before relaxing back on the seat. She looked as if she had something to say but decided not to do that anyway. " Mom, do you actually think that ghosts are real?" She ended up asking anyway.
Marya almost had a heart attack at her question. She doesn’t want to let her know that her dead grandma visits her when she was little, until an exorcism was held that warded off the evil spirit.
Her mother conducted the exorcism herself, and somehow if she’s right that Narika has been seeing a ghost then she would have to take her back to India, to go see her grandma. No matter what Mario says.
"Well sweetheart, I don’t actually know if that exists. But science has an explanation for everything right?" Marya said laughing before keeping her face on the road.
Narika noticed that she doesn’t want to have this conversation with her, but why? "How’s grandma? It’s been a while since she called" She asked so suddenly, that made her mother look at her forgetting that she was in the road until Narika yelled. " Mom watch out?"
The car stopped with a screech on the road, thankfully the both of them were wearing their seat belts so there was no harm.
"Are you okay mom?" Narika asked worriedly, as her mother nodded her head before pulling the seat belt and coming out of her car to check if she actually hit the car in front of her.
Narika watched from the car as her mother apologized to the man, who they had nearly crashed into. It’s her fault, they nearly had an accident because of her but what she noticed from what just happened is her mother’s shocked expression.
Her mother was hiding something and she needed answers, as soon as possible before she knew what to tell Adrik before two days was up.
