Myths Reawakened-Chapter 198 (2): Book of Hell
Wayne delayed his departure by five minutes. To prevent the servants at the villa from tipping the Snow family off, he waved his hand and scattered green spores to put them in a peaceful slumber.
The Queen’s order was to eliminate everyone without mercy, but Wayne was too kindhearted to bear seeing that much blood. He thus narrowed the scope to the Snow family members. Bringing Mona along, he drove toward the Snow family’s large estate in the downtown area.
Reaching the Snow Estate, the black sedan entered the iron gates and followed the driveway to the main house. Adlai, the head of the family, came forward enthusiastically to greet them. Seeing only Wayne and Mona, he couldn’t help but ask, “Sir Wayne, why isn’t Marion by your side? I arranged for her to be your personal guide. She’s been terribly negligent.”
“Miss Marion came along, too.”
“Where is she?”
“No rush. Mr. Adlai, I recall you saying that the Snow family would fully cooperate with the investigation, and that all family members are at the estate. Is that correct?”
“That is correct,” Adlai said solemnly. “The Snow family serves Her Majesty and remains loyal to Windsor. As head of the family, I welcome any form of investigation so long as it proves our family’s innocence.”
“If Her Majesty demanded that all of the Snow family demonstrate your loyalty by giving your lives, will you comply, Mr. Adlai?” Wayne quirked an eyebrow.
“Sir Wayne, please don’t make a joke like that,” Adlai said with a stiff expression. The next second, his lips curled into an amused smile. “If that were Her Majesty’s decree, the loyal Snow family would indeed carry out the order.”
“I’m relieved.” Wayne patted Mona on her bottom. She stepped forward, opening the suitcase and spilling the dismembered parts of the succubus to the ground.
“That’s—” Adlai narrowed his eyes to hide his shock, his pupils contracting. “Sir Wayne, what creature’s wings are these? A bat’s? Why are they so big?”
“Bats represent Pride among the Seven Demon Lords. They have nothing to do with Lust. Mr. Adlai, this is your daughter, Marion. With your permission, Obed, the traitor, transformed her into a succubus. You should recognize her.” Wayne spoke coolly, still feeling some regret for the succubus.
It wasn’t that he cared about the woman personally. The issue lay in the holy light he represented. As he was a reincarnated angel—or a presumed one anyway—the fact that he had failed to guide the succubus to the light side would certainly make the demons mock him for his hypocrisy once the news reached hell. Then the joke would make its way back to heaven, giving the angels something to laugh about, too.
The next time he encountered a succubus, he would take the matter into his own hands, for sure.
“Sir Wayne, I don’t understand what you’re saying. She’s not my daughter, Marion, and even if she were, the Snow family would never tolerate traitors who make deals with demons.” Adlai exclaimed with righteous fervor, and combined with his stern gentlemanly face, he had the heroic air of someone who would take down his own family for justice.
“Mr. Adlai, your daughter confessed everything. The Snow family consists of demons, every single one of you. Her Majesty has issued an order for all of you to relocate permanently to hell...”
Green light surged in Wayne’s eyes as he scattered green mist from his hands. His thoughts flowed from his feet into the earth beneath, triggering violent tremors. The trees and vegetation throughout the estate grew at an explosive rate to form a dense forest. Countless vines burst from the ground, tearing cracks into the land and intertwining with the wildly growing lawn. The estate’s landscapes were destroyed as if an earthquake had hit.
In an instant, Nature’s vitality and vibrancy filled the sky and earth, followed by spreading hallucinogenic spores that could parasitize humans.
Adlai raised his hand to cover his nose and mouth. He had wanted to make more excuses, but when he saw that the hexagram defense mechanism of the estate hadn’t activated, he abandoned his last bit of wishful thinking and transformed into a hellish demon with a roar.
He was tall and powerful, with a magnificent physique. His muscled frame leaped up to five meters in height, strong bat wings extending from his back. His three lion heads with silver manes radiated a majestic aura and overwhelming pressure.
Bats and lions symbolized pride, the head of the Seven Demon Lords.
As the patriarch of the family, Adlai was the vessel for Pride. The demon lord’s divine power had descended to transform Adlai into his familiar.
His roars thundered as the three-headed lionman swung his arms, clawing through the whooshing air and summoning surging waves of fire elements. In an instant, red light blazed. Intense flames erupted suddenly, carving a red burning trail across the ground.
Mona stepped forward, clad in white battle gear. She conjured a barrier of holy light with one hand.
Boom!
The red energy beam struck the white barrier. Wild flames broke into two streams and rushed to both sides, scorching the violently shaking ground and triggering explosions. Cracks spread in layers as dust filled the air, and large puffs of soil were blasted toward the sky.
“As expected of Pride, the head of the Seven Demon Lords. Even a backup vessel possesses greater divine power than Lust’s vessel,” Wayne commented. If Pride couldn’t become the very best in something, the demon would rather not do it at all. That wasn’t pride, but a tsundere tendency.
Before the main house, Adlai glanced warily at Mona after his failed attempt to kill Wayne with one strike. His silver mane lifted as flames engulfed his entire body. Wayne narrowed his eyes slightly, devouring all the surrounding fire elements.
Adlai’s flames were instantly extinguished. Unable to borrow fire elements and produce any spark, he only had his steaming muscles to depend on. The three lion heads all looked incredulous; it was clearly his first time encountering such a situation.
“Go easy and avoid damaging the buildings. All of this will become my property going forward,” Wayne ordered.
Mona nodded, conjuring a sacred spear in one hand. She tore through the scorching air with one simple spear throw, leaving Adlai struggling to react.
Just like Marion, he was an empty shell that only looked impressive. While he had some tricks up his sleeve, it wasn’t much.
Wayne turned his attention elsewhere. The Snow family members were all transforming into different forms. Judging by their symbolic features, they were each based on the familiars of one of the Seven Demon Lords.
Outside of Pride having only one host, every other demon lord operated under the belief of the more the merrier; Wayne spotted two other succubi. One was Marion’s mother, the current mistress of the Snow family. The other was Marion’s sister...
Wayne’s expression darkened. Hypothetically—and he was being hypothetical—if the three succubi had gathered and transformed together, what investigation leader would be able to resist the temptation?
“What were you doing all this time, hiding here...” He glanced at them twice, but that was it. He postponed his promise to personally take care of the next succubus he encountered. This didn’t count. Next time, he would do it for sure!
While he didn’t make a move, Veronica and Vera struck the demonic hosts with devastating blows. The two succubi were still floating mid-air when the mini sun Vera had created earlier burned them to ash.
She knew exactly which demons posed the greatest threat and needed immediate elimination.
In comparison, Veronica wasn’t as alert. She charged toward the host of the Lord of Wrath with simple reasoning: Wrath’s symbol was the great dragon. Seeing Marion’s second brother transformed into something with a dragon tail and wings irritated Veronica. She smashed him flat with a few punches.
The battle was entirely one-sided.
“Growl—”
Realizing that the Snow family was about to be wiped out with no possibility of survival, Adlai, locked in a desperate struggle, roared powerfully. His chest tore open, and a black leather book wrapped in chains floated out from where his heart should be.
The cover’s material was unidentifiable, featuring a large white face with black lips. The mysterious, macabre mask was in the typical style of hell.
The Book of Hell hovered in the air, its black energy swirling and forming a vortex of death.
Mona pulled back to avoid the powerful suction, holding her holy spear as she spread her wings to shield Wayne.
The vortex stirred up wild currents, targeting the Snow family members and ruthlessly harvesting them, stripping away their flesh and the features of the demon lords to recreate a form in the darkness.
Wayne saw the five-meter-tall white giant with no facial features or muscles clearly. Its slender limbs could belong to a male or a female. From its forehead to its lower abdomen was a black crack, from which black mud poured out, containing faces twisted in sinful agony that bobbed up and down.
“What the hell is that thing? That’s demonic!”
Without hesitation, Wayne opened up his chest to give the Sacred Lance of Heaven to Mona. Going by the hidden rules of the Chosen Land, the weirder something looked and the less human it appeared, the more powerful it was.
“I’m not interested in seeing its complete form. Finish it off while it’s still transforming!”
