Myths Reawakened-Chapter 184 (2): Better than Divine Blood
Filomina tucked her long silver hair behind her ear. Only then did she realize why Mona had stopped moving. Three barriers stood in their way, each corresponding to the faith magic of Nature, Sun, and Moonlight. The layers of checkpoints required the three faiths for entrance.
Filomina had learned Life Magic, so she was certain that she could easily pass the obstacle. She glanced at Mona and said sarcastically, “This isn’t where you should be. Return to your church and sing in the choir. Remember to dress more properly, or you may be a bad influence on the boys.”
“What do you know?” A vein popped out on Mona’s forehead. Heretics always saw them through a biased perspective. The uniform she wore came from the Papal State. Even angels approved of the design. How was it improper?
Ignoring her, Filomina opened the way with her sword, eyes glinting with silver light. She first unlocked the seal of Moonlight. The key matched. She could enter.
Wayne had returned the Single-edged Sword of Waning Moon to Filomina to show that his love for her was greater than her love for him. For that, he would give her everything without reservation.
After the first seal came another two that wouldn’t open. Although Filomina had studied Life Magic, Nature and Sun only played a supporting role in her magic, and she wasn’t knowledgeable enough in them. Her key was too small for the keyhole, so to speak, and twisting it proved fruitless.
Mona followed right after her. When she saw Filomina stumped, she covered her mouth and chuckled coquettishly, her fake laughter grating on Filomina.
“Seals set up by a legendary mage...”
Filomina stood unmoving with a dark look on her face. The two seals required too much faith in Nature and Sun for her to bypass. Even if Mona infuriated her so much that she became a legendary mage right then and there, she still wouldn’t be able to enter.
Conversely, no faithful legendary mage would be able to set up the triple seals. Whoever did it had to be a free mage with no loyalty.
Filomina sheathed her sword. Silver light bloomed in her eyes, and a black crack opened up behind her, reaching a hundred meters into the sky before slowly opening sideways like the dramatic opening of a play.
After what happened at the Capital Hotel, she had applied for a great amount of resources from the Church of Moonlight, including four treasures that the church had passed down through generations.
The four tablet-sized cards were etched from thick black stones, the material reflecting metallic light—perhaps it wasn’t stone at all. On the back of the cards were complex magic circles surrounding the vague visages of the Goddess of Moonlight, while the front of each card portrayed the new moon, waning moon, waxing moon, and full moon, respectively.
The four cards were connected to Filomina’s thoughts through a special contract, allowing her to store them in her dark domain while avoiding spending her thoughts too extensively.
The cards hovered in the air, orbiting like the moon as it changed phases. An intangible power expanded, pressuring Mona for being a heretic.
Filomina wasn’t doing it on purpose. She wasn’t a legendary mage, so it was quite difficult for her to use the four cards at once. She couldn’t prevent any energy from leaking. If that caused Mona discomfort... then so be it. Mona was free to think that she did it intentionally.
The moon cycled through the different phases. Refined moonlight spread like water, graceful and tranquil as it washed over the land with incredible gentleness. The triple seals, including the Moonlight one behind Filomina, were erased as the moonlight flooded over them.
While the moon was beautiful, one should be careful when looking at it.
Filomina put the four cards away and wiped the sweat on her forehead, huffing. “We’re not only facing a demon, but also a legendary mage. The rest of the fight has nothing to do with your church. It’s not too late for you to leave.”
Mona scoffed rather than responding. She entered the dark domain with her sacred lance.
A plethora of convoluted knowledge flooded her, reaching her thoughts and filling her mind with overlapping murmurs. Her gaze became hazy. Fortunately, the stigma on the back of her hand dispersed the relentless temptations for her.
Noticing that, Filomina wondered about her true identity. She seemed like an angel, but wasn’t actually one. Perhaps she could be a new humanoid weapon the Church of Heavenly Father had developed. Filomina filed the information away.
Conjuring her vitality barrier to shield her from the whispers, Filomina looked into the distance. Her understanding of dark domains allowed her to spot the platform and the obelisk standing in the center immediately.
Mona and Filomina flew over, landing successfully in no time. They saw the remainder of the Thousand-Eyed Demon’s thoughts in the form of surging black mist, repeatedly colliding with...
“What is that?”
Filomina gaped at the strange combination of a large eyeball and tentacles. And then there was Kristen, suspended in the air by said tentacles. For a moment, she wondered which side was the villain—neither looked like the hero, that was for certain.
Mona had seen Wayne’s true appearance a long time ago. An angel’s visage transcended the mortal standards of beauty. Call it terrifying or hideous; they were meant to intimidate demons.
Since she wasn’t a demon, she described the grotesque appearance as supremely dignified.
She raised her lance and sent sacred white flames toward the Thousand-Eyed Demon. Since holy light was the natural bane of demons, her attack was incredibly effective, forcing the demon to abandon a great amount of his thoughts and retreat into the blond man’s body, shielding himself from the sacred flames.
“You again!” The Thousand-Eyed Demon clenched his teeth. He was so close to breaking down the young mage’s defense and acquiring the perfect body. How could a fallen clergywoman tainted by his subordinate cleanse herself and gain the power of an angel? It should’ve been impossible!
It wasn’t that Mona and Filomina hadn’t arrived quickly, but that the Thousand-Eyed Demon had wasted too much precious time trying to capture the young mage, and the demon knew that. The fact proved him right: the young mage was blessed with a perfect physical body.
Wayne smothered a sigh of relief. It was his first time facing a demonic possession, and he almost allowed the Thousand-Eyed Demon to enter. He wondered if the Book of Greed would have eaten the demon’s thoughts had that happened, and if so, how?
It was too risky, though, and he might just become possessed. He decided against conducting an experiment.
“Boss!” 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Mona went up to Wayne and straightened her back with her sacred lance raised. She would like to call him ‘master’ to stake her claim, but before the word could escape her mouth, she remembered Wayne’s order and stopped herself.
Her master was still undercover. She shouldn’t expose him.
“Boss... You’re Wayne?!”
Filomina’s eyes widened. She couldn’t believe that her young boyfriend had turned into this abomination. She quickly found an excuse for him: “Ah, the demon must have corrupted your thoughts and turned you into a Forgotten One.”
She carefully went up to him, avoiding the randomly swinging tentacles. “How do you feel? Do you still retain your rationality?”
Wayne cursed under his breath. Now that Filomina had seen this side of him, he would have to come up with a reasonable explanation to continue his long con. What should he say?
After pondering for 0.25 seconds, he came up with a lie. His white, featureless face opened horizontally into a large maw. “It’s not a big problem. A demon’s corruption is nothing. I’ll return to normal after resting for a few minutes.”
Filomina nodded, buying his lie readily. Since there was a precedent of him banishing the corruption of the Astral Plane for her, she believed that her young boyfriend would return to normal. The thing right here... yeah, she didn’t swing that way.
“I didn’t corrupt him with my thoughts, foolish woman,” the Thousand-Eyed Demon scoffed. “You don’t even know what he is, and you believe his words? How nice. Even a demon like me would call him devilish.”
Filomina frowned, snapping back, “Stop trying to sow discord. If I’m not going to believe him, who should I believe? A demon like you?”
The Thousand-Eyed Demon rolled his eyes. Why had he never encountered a woman this gullible?
Suddenly, a newcomer interrupted their conversation. Obed, having transformed into his elven form, stepped out of the darkness, staring at Wayne with greedy eyes. “A descendant of God with the original bloodline, the blood of the first humans. Moreover, you were blessed by an ancient god...”
“Wayne, your potential is better than divine blood!”
All three humans and one demon were confused.
“Ancient god?!”
“Original bloodline?”
“First humans?”
“What are you saying—no, who are you?”
