Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength-Chapter 1227 - 1221: Fight to the End!
"..."
At this moment, the Barrier Mountain square was so quiet that the drop of a pin could be heard.
The lower-ranking pirates dared not speak.
While the higher-ranking pirates—those with access to excellent spell resources—already possessed basic perception abilities.
So they could vaguely sense.
Something with an astonishing magic quality was approaching from the eastern passage of the square.
Even though the entrance was shrouded in fog and pitch black.
Yet, with this specific scenario around them, they understood that the person who was about to appear was most likely the mastermind behind the events!
"..."
Clap—
Clap, clap—
Footsteps grew from faint to loud, gradually reaching everyone’s ears in the otherwise silent square.
But they also realized something—
The footsteps emerging from the black fog sounded like they belonged to more than just one person!
In this situation, the two pirate leaders closest to the passage couldn’t help but whisper to each other:
"Bablo, what do you say?"
The other pirate leader rolled his eyes:
"What do I say? I was going to ask you the same thing. We can’t just act first because we’re the closest, right?"
"And look at this situation, it’s clearly some powerful wizard. Rushing in would be suicide, wouldn’t it?"
The other pirate leader, although rebuffed, clearly unwilling to back down, strengthened his tone:
"Then what do you suggest we do!"
"We’re positioned terribly right now, but we can’t just turn around and run either, can we?"
Their current situation was indeed awful to the extreme.
If they stayed—they admitted they weren’t a match for whoever created this black fog. If they ran—such a cowardly stance in front of everyone... considering their profession, they probably wouldn’t be able to get by afterward.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place, one of the pirate leaders naturally thought of their discoveries over the past month on Barrier Mountain.
To deal with an obviously unmatched mysterious presence.
Perhaps only the treasure they discovered within Barrier Mountain could do the trick.
"Bablo, do you remember that scroll we found in the yellow hall? It said that those who fall into the negative world can never come out!"
A glimmer of hope flashed in the other pirate leader’s eyes.
But his expression soon turned grim, then transformed into one of unveiled ferocity:
"But that’s a ’Pirate King’s’ treasure!"
"For us to convince those guys to use it against him, we’d have to..."
Suddenly, the pirate leader’s words stopped mid-sentence.
Because, emerging from the black fog came the voice of a young man.
And behind him, Patricia and Katherine followed closely.
This unusual combination not only pressured the pirates but also stirred greed in some hearts.
"..."
Meanwhile, Ronald, who had just emerged from the black fog, frowned.
The fog enveloping the mountain’s interior was, of course, the hellish fog he summoned using the Divine Comedy spell.
Before taking action, Ronald had thought it through.
Though Catherine’s hint led him inside the mountain, no one could guarantee these rampant pirates hadn’t disturbed things within the mountain.
So, just to be safe, no one was allowed to leave.
As long as this place’s pirates couldn’t escape, Ronald was confident he could find what Catherine had left for him. This way, many unclear matters could be resolved.
"Sir, what do you intend to do?"
As Ronald looked around and the pirates all schemed their own plans, a weathered-faced man from among the strongest ’Pirate Kings’ stood up.
"This unclaimed land was first discovered by us who make a living at sea, naturally entitling us to use it. If you too wish to share in the spoils—we welcome capable friends to join us. There’s no need for such drastic measures!"
Such a tactful and calming statement immediately won applause from the surrounding pirates.
They felt it was a clever statement.
Especially those who had been terrified by Ronald’s spell earlier, now could not care less about missing comrades, nearly jumping to applaud such dialogue.
"..."
But unlike the lively pirates.
Ronald stood there, quite speechless.
What was this guy talking about?
He was negotiating with a group of pirates, and instead, the pirates advised him not to be aggressive? What sort of joke was this!
"Ahem—"
So, Ronald cleared his throat.
He had no intention of entertaining this guy, he immediately channeled his magic power, then deployed a large-scale word spirit magic:
"Everyone, disarm yourselves onto the ground and squat down obediently!"
"..."
At first, the square surroundings fell into silence.
But soon after, rustling sounds began to arise from the people.
The majority of the pirates couldn’t resist Ronald’s powerful word spirit magic, they immediately started to lay down their weapons and squat obediently in place.
However, this wasn’t the case for everyone.
Ronald’s extension of the spell’s influence naturally diminished its effect to some extent. And with a large number of pirates, some did possess the ability to resist.
Either by treasures found within Barrier Mountain or spells learned that just happened to spare them.
Ultimately, after Ronald’s word spirit magic had passed, there remained dozens of pirates maintaining their ability to move.
Seeing this, Ronald raised an eyebrow.
He was satisfied with this result, but seeing these people in the square, still kind of an eyesore.
Especially the ones who shouted at him just now. Those ’Pirate Kings’, with their scavenged treasures, hadn’t been subdued at all.
He really needed to handle them...
"Don’t hold back!"
"Fight him!"
At that moment, shouts rang out from the ’Pirate Kings’ side.
The hellish black fog, being a spell that blocked passage without causing them actual harm, allowed them to stand their ground.
But this one word spirit spell...
Directly subdued hundreds, if not thousands of pirates altogether in the square.
This went beyond their understanding of spells, leaving no room for any other thoughts.
Or better put—finding a way to escape was the only thing that made sense!
As for the magic treasures on Barrier Mountain here.
Though greedy, these pirates knew the difference between what they could live to enjoy, and what they couldn’t.
Thus, one of the ’Pirate Kings’ pulled out a piece of parchment, ripping it while shouting:
"Should any man or woman concoct a witchcraft potion or item, and be found concealing such, they must be sentenced to death according to the lawful procedure!"
