Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength-Chapter 1170 - 1164: Plane Crash
Before dawn, Ronald and Patricia left [Chom] and set off for the capital of the [Runic Kingdom].
For reasons of secrecy and efficiency,
Instead of renting the commonly used local ox cart or carriage, Ronald cast a spell and directly took Patricia low-flying toward the capital of the [Runic Kingdom].
The capital of the [Runic Kingdom] is called [Chloruno].
Neither Ronald nor Patricia had been here before, and their knowledge of the place was limited to what they had inquired about in [Chom]. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Feeling the swiftness of Ronald's flying spell,
On the way, Patricia couldn't help but ask,
"Ronald, with your flying speed, wouldn't traveling alone be faster than taking a boat?"
"That's indeed possible." Ronald began to explain to Patricia, "But such a thing is like going out to buy something. Walking and riding a horse can both get you to the store, the latter obviously being faster, but in reality, most people still choose to walk."
Patricia laughed heartily:
"But Ronald, I think if it were the nobility, they'd probably ride horses more often!"
"Me? A noble?" Ronald pointed to himself with a laugh, "From a status perspective, I am indeed a noble. But unfortunately, I'm not someone who feels any noble pride."
Patricia didn't hesitate to praise,
"Ronald, that's what I like about you, it's impressive!"
Ronald resumed the previous topic:
"And if we flew all the way to our destination, I would definitely miss a lot. Consider all the things we've encountered, like the library in [Carpen] City and the ruins in [Lakhmont], these are all precious experiences for me."
"Even our understanding of the [Runic Kingdom] has been built along this journey, though I'm not sure what sort of place its capital, ruled by cult magicians, is..."
Whoosh—
"..."
"Uh—whoa!!!"
Suddenly, a shadow appeared next to Ronald accompanied by the sound of the wind, it then rapidly receded like scenery seen from a moving train, followed by a blurred scream.
Both Ronald and Patricia were startled by this sudden change.
After stopping their forward flight, they turned around and realized what had just happened.
—It was Gwendolin who had appeared.
However, possibly due to some error while manifesting her body, she was thrown far away without the benefit of Ronald's spell.
And more frustratingly—this was in mid-air.
Though Ronald had been flying low to maintain secrecy, this level of low altitude still didn't benefit Gwendolin.
Thus, after she appeared, she plummeted directly downward, bouncing like a rag doll upon hitting the ground, before falling silent amid wails and screams.
"..."
Ronald and Patricia exchanged looks, both seeing the confusion in each other's eyes.
Is this person okay?
Ever since landing, Gwendolin had been hiding and hadn't shown any sign of herself. No one would believe she was fine after suddenly appearing now.
After hesitating and being dumbfounded for a few seconds, Ronald took Patricia and moved closer.
Gwendolin's current state was as exaggerated as her previous wails and the disastrous fall.
As a human, none of her limbs were intact, and even her head, such an important organ for thinking, was caved in on the side.
If this were anyone else, even most magicians,
The injuries would surely be fatal.
"..."
Ronald looked at her speechlessly.
He tried to lock onto her information with [Greed Original Sin], but the spell had no effect on her.
Feeling this feedback, Ronald instead sighed with relief.
A lack of response is, after all, a form of information.
If Gwendolin were truly dead, then a mere corpse would never be able to resist the scrutiny of his original spell. This 'nothing gained' instead proves that Gwendolin is not in trouble.
So Ronald walked forward and nudged her body with his toe:
"Hey, still alive?"
"..."
Gwendolin used her arm, broken into four sections, to push aside Ronald's foot, then wobbly stood up, looking at him with deeply resentful eyes:
"Your spell couldn't determine whether I'm dead or alive, and yet you treat me so rudely?"
"I did that because I have full confidence in your abilities." Ronald replied matter-of-factly, "So, what are you suddenly popping out for? Surely not just to take a fall?"
Gwendolin's expression and tone both lifted:
"Hey, hey, hey, I mean well!"
"I heard you were uncertain about the state of the [Runic Kingdom], that's why I decided to take the risk and come out to explain it to you!"
"Well, you can tell us now." Ronald nodded, then cast a spell again to lift them into the air. Unfortunately, just like with [Greed Original Sin], now [Equilibrium Wheel] likewise couldn't lock onto her presence.
Ronald furrowed his brow:
"Let's fly while you talk. Make sure my spell can lock onto you."
"Okay." Gwendolin nodded to indicate she understood.
The next second, Ronald felt he could lock onto her presence, and then he used the spell to continue their journey with the three of them.
In mid-air, Gwendolin began to narrate the information she knew:
"According to local legends, long ago this nation was established by a slave warrior who led the army of justice in rebellion against a tyrant. It's unfortunate that this slave warrior didn't seem to be very against slavery, and after establishing the [Runic Kingdom], he instead greatly promoted the regulations of the slave trade, eventually making it a nation famous for slavery..."
Gwendolin's account mostly focused on the history and cultural landscapes of the [Runic Kingdom]. Much of the information was clearly only known by those who had lived there for a long time.
Since he truly knew nothing about it, with a part of him wanting to understand the local history, Ronald did not interrupt her narrative.
Thus, Gwendolin's account continued through to the modern era of the nation.
When she reached the part about the 'cult magicians' invasion,' Gwendolin briefly paused before continuing:
"Next is the current transformation of the [Runic Kingdom]."
As the topic shifted in this direction, Gwendolin's tone became unusually serious:
"The king of the cult magicians—Bapulor—gathered seven sinister original holders from all over the world, each managing different departments of the nation. As you enter the capital, you must be cautious in your actions."
Revealing the cult magicians' secrets within the [Runic Kingdom], Gwendolin finally spoke with deep consideration:
"Ronald, although you're incredibly powerful, almost unreasonably so,"
"If you were to face these seven original holders and Bapulor, you might not fare well."
