Chapter 17 - A good haul
Chapter 17
After an intense battle of about an hour, we had a very dead goblin, a severely injured Julian, and slightly injured three teens, with Lucas being the worst among them and Sandra coming in second.
The efficiency of the battle was... inefficient. I mean, it was a goblin, for goodness sake. A monster half the size of an adult, about the same size as Martha, and about the same battle strength of twenty points in physical attributes according to the system.
New novel 𝓬hapters are published on ƒreewebɳovel.com.
All it needed was a good enhanced dagger strike in the middle of the forehead and voila, we'd have ourselves a very dead goblin. It was an E rank monster according to the system so it wasn't even that strong.
I sighed and shook my head, doing what I was there to do. After I healed the party, everyone was happy as hell as if they had accomplished a very big task. I didn't know why killing a mere goblin was so satisfying but I guessed it fetched a good price.
After that, they skinned the goblin. They saved its organs, paying special attention to its eyes and core. They took almost everything they could and wrapped it all in a cloth like a bundle which I volunteered to carry. They discarded the meat and bones, only taking what they could. Well, goblin meat, infected with demonic energy at that, was worth more loss than gain.
One, it was goblin meat. And second, it was infested with demonic energy which would require a lot of purification.
After another half an hour of rest, we set out again, this time encountering a boar. I refused to see the earlier spectacle repeat itself again, so while they surrounded the boar, I picked up a rock from the ground and imbued mana in my hand, using all of my power to crush it to pellet-sized pebbles.
Then, when no one was looking, I enhanced one pebble with mana, and just as Julian's spear slashed the boar, I shot the pebble when no one was looking, and the pebble penetrated its forehead, killing it on the spot.
Heart was consumable even with demonic energy infection while a brain was useless so it was better to waste the brain than heart. The boar went down in an instant and everyone was flabbergasted at what had just happened. Julian stared at his spear in confusion, wondering if some sort of miracle had happened.
Once they came to their senses after about a minute, they hurriedly began to skin the boar, saving its organs and meat. There was no core in this one but the meat was plentiful. I once again offered to carry it and while it weighed around a hundred kilograms, it was not very difficult to carry.
"It seems your awakening is related to strength, Jack." Sandra connected while everyone nodded in assent.
Since awakening was supposed to be common knowledge and I had already learned the major points about it, I nodded and said, "I was hoping for a magical one but I guess this one will do."
"No one knows what your awakening would be, Jack. There is a great chance that it is still elemental than physical and your physical strength is just a bonus." Julian said with an expectant expression. I could tell why his expression was so hopeful and even though he had used the word 'great', I knew the chance of that happening was rare.
Dual awakening, which meant, wielding two elements at the same time was considered a sign of nobility. If I were to wield two, no matter what kind, I'd be regarded highly in the kingdom and my status would be automatically elevated to that of a knight.
A knight wasn't much in the nobility chain, but it was ten times better than commoners which we assumed we were at the moment. By the way, the status of the current town chief was a knight so that only showed how high my status would be. After that were the lords and then the king.
Of course, that was all too far away. I intended to lay low until I obtained enough power. After all, no king or lord would like me threatening their power so they'd attempt to snuff me out while I was still small time if I didn't appear obedient and loyal to the king and the lords.
Anyway, just like that, the hunt continued until after about three hours, I couldn't physically carry anymore and so couldn't Lucas and Sandra. They were already confused by the miracles of monsters dying at first strike today but when they noticed their haul, their confusion was automatically pushed to the back of their minds.
Julian decided it was enough and around noon, we began to march back to the city. When we arrived back to the city, it was little past noon and when the guards saw us coming, their eyes widened to see the amount we were carrying.
Once we were out of the danger zone, the weight on me lessened, and Julian and Martha both took some from all three of us.
"Wow, Julian. It seems like you had a lucky day." The guard said, the one who greeted us in the morning.
"We were lucky indeed," Julian replied as we entered the city. The guard nodded and said, "Well, you're selling everything?"
"No. We'll keep the boar meat. I think we deserve a little celebration today," Julian replied.
"You sure do," The guard said before he began to check all the loot. Once he was done, he counted everything and their prices, and after tax, the amount we obtained was a whopping one gold coin and a few silver and coppers.
The expressions on everyone's faces was like they had become the wealthiest people in the town and the guard certainly congratulated them like so. Once we were done, Julian, "I will head to the church to have this purified."
Of course, like every fantasy, there was a religious organization here as well. No doubt there was a god since something so ridiculous like my reincarnations couldn't be work of mere humans, but I could say with certainty that the god these guys served was imaginary.
"Wait, Father," I stopped Julian who was about to go.
"What?" Julian asked.
"Why don't we head home first? I want to try something with the meat. Please give me a chance and if it doesn't work out, you can take it to the church." I said.
"What? You want to try and purify it?" Julian asked, "Only holy mana can do that."
Correction, holy mana can do that best. Other sorts of powers could also push demonic energy as long as one had good control and knew how to break down the demonic energy.
"Please, give me a chance. If not, it would not be too late." I argued which was very logical and Julian decided to give it a try even when Lucas was vehemently against it.
We arrived home only to be welcomed by a surprised Rayla who was cleaning the floor.
If I wasn't so preoccupied, I would have given her a good look on all fours but I decided to leave the fun part for the later. We went to the living room where Julian uncovered the dark meat. Rayla was surprised and asked why we didn't take it to a priest to have it purified but when explained, she remained quiet and just let me do my thing.
It was a child's play, to be honest. I was done purifying the meat at the cost of just 500 MP. The gains from today's hunt were disappointing as even though I had killed many monsters, I failed to gain a level since none of them were above E rank.
Still, I managed to gather some data and how to make it past the walls. However, even if I did, I wouldn't find monsters in the immediate vicinity which meant the sewers were still my best bet.
For that, I needed money though so I could buy some weapons. Luckily, the monsters I killed today granted me about five hundred shop coins.
[You have killed an E rank monster x4]
[You have obtained 400 EXP]
[You have obtained an E rank mana crystal x4]
[You have obtained 400 SC]
With fifty more from before, I had 450 shop coins. Since I was prepared now, I decided to visit the sewers tomorrow when others celebrated with joy as I purified the meat.
It was a big thing for them and even Lucas seemed a little happy by what I did. Once we were done, we ate and Julian announced a vacation tomorrow as the haul we had today was enough.
Once we were done with everything and my tasks for tomorrow planned, I decided to finish the secondary quest but the dick fun wouldn't be with Rayla, unfortunately, but with someone else. Rayla would be with Julian so I couldn't risk it.
So, I approached Sandra, the elder sister, and asked, "Sister, can you and I have a bath together today?"
