Chapter 218: Chapter 212: These Days, It’s Hard to Be a Gold Sponsor

Indie Lowell’s life had been saved, but her meridians were completely destroyed, leaving her fully paralyzed.

Ronan Warner had taken her to the Frost-Bound Cavern in the Kaelan Mountains, intending to attempt the legendary art of meridian reconstruction.

Leigh Miles always thought it was a long shot but didn’t dare to object, afraid he’d just give up and walk away from the treatment.

She spent several days on edge until he suddenly returned, radiating a frigid aura, and called Master Aerion and Titus Miles away.

The long wait was agonizing, so she decided to follow her Senior Sister to a mountain waterfall to meditate.

Not until the tenth day did Master Aerion return, utterly exhausted and carrying Titus Miles.

Aurora Sinclair could clearly sense that her master was much weaker, as if he had lost some of his cultivation.

"The Lowell girl is out of danger. You and Young Lord Morgan will depart tomorrow."

"Master, are you all right?" Leigh Miles ran over to check Master Aerion’s pulse, only to get a flick on the forehead.

Master Aerion glared. "What could possibly be wrong with me? If there is anything, it’s you who’s angered me into it! Do you have any idea how much that old man Warner charged me? A full one hundred million."

"What? That much? No way, I’m going to find him—" Leigh Miles rolled up her sleeves, ready to march to the Kaelan Mountains.

"Get back here. You clean up your own messes. Here." Master Aerion coughed a few times, pulled an IOU from his robes, and stuffed it into Leigh Miles’s hand.

Leigh Miles stared at the IOU in her hand, on the verge of tears.

For a sect already drowning in debt, this was just adding insult to injury.

"Senior Sister..."

"Don’t look at her. She hasn’t even paid off her own debts."

Master Aerion coughed again, his face grim, and stormed off with a flick of his sleeve.

When it was time to return to Kingsford, Master Aerion unexpectedly kept Titus Miles at Sunstone, letting only the two young women go back with Alvin Morgan.

Before they left, Master Aerion and Alvin Morgan had a private discussion that lasted all night, and the two seemed to have reached some kind of agreement.

"After you leave the mountain, you must work hard to pay off this debt. No slacking or trying to pull a fast one, especially you, Leigh Miles." Master Aerion flicked her on the forehead, adding the warning with a glare.

Aurora Sinclair watched him worriedly. Though he looked fine on the surface, she couldn’t shake the feeling that his body had been greatly depleted.

Master Aerion coughed a few more times and raised a hand to pat Aurora Sinclair’s head. "Dawn Miles, you destroyed the better part of Young Lord Morgan’s martial meridians. From now on, you must be responsible for his personal safety."

Aurora Sinclair’s expression grew solemn, and she nodded gravely.

As the car pulled away, the figures of Master Aerion and Titus Miles shrank in the rearview mirror. Leigh Miles felt a sting in her nose. This was the first time since she had woken up that she would be separated from Titus for so long, and her heart felt empty.

She turned and buried her face in Aurora Sinclair’s embrace, her voice muffled. "Senior Sister, we’ll come back for winter break."

Aurora Sinclair nodded. "That’s in two months."

"Then let’s save up more money and buy gifts for Master and Tiger." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Okay..."

Leigh Miles’s eyes lit up. She looked to the front, hugging the back of the driver’s seat. "Hey, Big Spender, can I get a raise?"

Beta Morgan, who was driving, felt his fingers twitch.

Leigh Miles’s salary was deducted entirely from his own.

’It’s not easy being the money man these days!’

「On the plane.」

Aurora Sinclair found Alvin Morgan and asked him point-blank, "Morgan, what did my master say to you?"

Alvin Morgan was reading an old tome. He looked up at her with a smile and pushed the book toward her.

"He asked me to research the Radiant Void Sect’s rules."

"Hmm?" Aurora Sinclair glanced at the archaic characters for "Radiant Void Sect" on the cover and looked at him, confused.

"He wants me to find a way for the Sect Leader to get married."

The tips of Aurora Sinclair’s ears instantly turned red. She pursed her lips, shot him a look, and stood up to leave, but he caught her by the wrist.

"I’m just messing with you! Come, sit..." Alvin Morgan shifted over, patting the spot on the sofa next to him.

Aurora Sinclair’s gaze flickered for a moment before she obediently sat down.

"This is a fragmented Fist Technique manual. He wants me to find a way to progress further with it."

Aurora Sinclair glanced at the contents and gasped, immediately taking it for a closer look. It was the Radiant Void Sect’s ultimate cultivation technique, the *Radiant Void Boxing Manual*.

Alvin Morgan grasped her shoulders and said earnestly, "He said that for decades, your sect has only been able to master it up to the sixth layer. He hopes you can break through to the Seventh Layer."

"Why wouldn’t he teach me himself?" Aurora Sinclair asked, her voice filled with dejection.

"Perhaps he truly couldn’t find a way..." Alvin Morgan’s eyes darkened.

’Master Aerion had been in bad shape last night. Something was clearly wrong with his body, but he had forced himself to stay up and talk with me all night. He recounted every last detail of Aurora Sinclair’s life, from childhood to the present day, before finally entrusting the boxing manual to me.’

’"Protect the boxing manual. Let her become the new Guardian..."’

’"Why choose me?"’

’"Leigh Miles said you brought her back to her senses."’

’"Just for that?"’

’"A single thought can lead to good or to evil, to enlightenment or to damnation. The line between them is razor-thin, decided in an instant. You happened to catch hold of her goodness. I hope you can keep holding on..."’

"Morgan? Does Master really want me to break through to the Seventh Layer?" Aurora Sinclair tugged on his sleeve, her eyes wide as she looked at him.

Alvin Morgan smiled and patted her on the head. "Of course he does."

Aurora Sinclair nodded gravely.

Alvin Morgan ruffled her hair again. "When we get back, you and Leigh Miles should move into the Morgan Residence."

"Hmm?"

"I’m injured. I need round-the-clock protection."

"..."

As the plane landed, black cars from the Martial Affairs Bureau surrounded the Lockwood Family’s private airstrip.

Kevin Whitlock and his men blocked the Morgans’ car.

"Young Master Whitlock, what is the meaning of this?" Beta Morgan’s expression faltered as he stepped forward to confront them.

Kevin Whitlock shot Beta Morgan a dark look before turning his gaze to Aurora Sinclair. "The Guthrie Family filed a report. Joyce Guthrie’s body was found dumped in the wild. Aurora Sinclair is currently the prime suspect."

Beta Morgan was the first to speak up. "Are you kidding me? Aurora has been with us this entire time. How could she have possibly killed someone?"

"And what about hiring a hitman?" Kevin Whitlock retorted, staring at Aurora Sinclair and enunciating every word.

Alvin Morgan’s expression darkened. "Where’s your evidence?"

"She has more than enough motive. Ten days ago, Joyce Guthrie plotted to kidnap Aurora Sinclair and hired men to torture her to death, but the attempt failed. However, three days after the incident, Joyce herself was killed in the exact same way."

A chill ran down Kevin Whitlock’s spine as he recalled Joyce Guthrie’s mangled corpse.

’What kind of grudge would lead someone to do that to a girl?’

At the thought, his gaze toward Aurora Sinclair grew even more hostile.

’She’s a demon. Of course she’d be ruthless.’

Alvin Morgan’s eyes narrowed. "It wasn’t her. We’ve been on Sunstone these past few days. There’s no cell service there."

Kevin Whitlock clenched his fists. "We’ll find out if it was her after some questioning. Take her away—"

The uniformed agents beside him moved forward to handcuff Aurora Sinclair but were blocked by the Morgans.

"If you want to interrogate someone, then take us both. After all, when it comes to hiring someone to commit assault, I’m an even bigger suspect than she is." Alvin Morgan gave a cold laugh, took Aurora Sinclair’s hand, and strode forward.

The Martial Affairs Bureau agents exchanged glances. They didn’t dare lay a hand on the Morgans, so they could only walk along beside them.

News that Alvin Morgan had led Aurora Sinclair into an interrogation room quickly reached the director of the Martial Affairs Bureau. Terrified, he immediately rushed over and personally invited the pair into his office.

Kevin Whitlock frowned, deeply displeased, but the director just reprimanded him for acting so rashly.

"Young Lord Morgan, you’re obviously not a suspect. We have to make sure we’re after the right people, don’t we, Young Lord Morgan?"

Alvin Morgan sneered. "Don’t be so sure. What if I was the one who gave the order?"
