My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 470: The War’s End
Chapter 470: The War’s End
When my body returned to its normal state, I felt most of my strength leave me in an instant, causing me to kneel on the ground and take a deep breath.
Even after having the phoenix’s power brought me back to life, I still had a massive scar on the area where my heart was stabbed. Fortunately, the wound stopped hurting.
Suddenly, I felt a warm hand gently touching my chin and raising it to find Melina kneeling in front of me with a tired, serene smile. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
My wife looked almost as beat up as me, though she at least managed to stay clothed while I lost my awesome poncho.
As I used my finger to wipe a drop of blood trailing down her temple softly, our gazes fixed on each other, and I couldn’t hold myself back, so I gave my wife a kiss as if it were the last.
While sitting on the ground, embracing each other without wanting to let go, we were interrupted when all of our companions arrived and joined us for a group hug, slightly asphyxiating us with their love.
"Oh? Are you crying, Vespera?" I asked with a smug expression.
I knew that my companions were attached to me as much as I was to them, but Vespera had always been cool, calm, and collected. Even when situations got a bit out of control, she never looked stressed or dejected, so seeing her shed tears for my safety was a bit touching.
"Shhh, don’t ruin my moment..." Vespera replied, hugging me tighter while Yoru, in his animal form, placed his head on my lap.
Arashi and Frost were also smothering Melina with their hugs, and Ovi, the baby dragon, seemed like he wanted to join the group before falling asleep in my arms, utterly exhausted.
When Melina pulled out her voice crystal, she asked Yuki to give her a report on the well-being of the soldiers who were still inside the tower.
Apparently, after I died for a few minutes, the gem-link I had left at the demonic portal blocking the entrance of more demons had stopped working.
This allowed more hellish monsters who were waiting for the opportunity to support their demon king to invade our world. Luckily, Sage Astra had a hand in wiping them out before they could even leave the tower.
As the sky got clearer from the overwhelming dust and smoke that covered the battlefield, Sage Louie proclaimed the victory of the war in his broadcast to the entire world.
There were still a few demons hiding inside the tower, but we had enough soldiers to take care of them.
With the war against the forces of hell finally over, I was ready to move on with the plans I had from the beginning. Still, thinking about all the work we had left only made me more tired at that moment.
When we returned to the area near the tower’s entrance, I was a bit saddened to see the state of the battlefield.
Our army managed to kill thousands of demons and prevent them from leaving the Lost Continent, but we also lost a lot of soldiers in the fight.
It would’ve been naive of me to think that everyone would survive a war against demons, and the soldiers who accompanied us were there because they wanted to fight with us. Still, the best I could give them was a respectful burial and the reassurance that the battle had been won.
While inspecting the damage and walking along the freshly destroyed battlefield, I sensed another of my companions rushing to our location, making me smile when I heard the bear’s roar.
"Athena!" I happily exclaimed, seeing the mama bear quickly approaching us with her son, Apollo, sitting on her back.
Jackson and Nessa could barely walk after the battle, and I noticed that Jackson’s horns weren’t disappearing, which made me wonder if he didn’t have the strength to hide his demonic features anymore.
Nessa was already used to living in her hybrid demon form, which was really just a human with horns, but that was only because she was part of our group, and we didn’t discriminate against her just for being a demon.
On the other hand, Jackson had been hiding his demonic features throughout all his time in our world, so for him to be in his hybrid form was rare.
"Heh... Well, I don’t think there is a reason to hide them any longer..." Jackson commented with a smile, dropping one knee to the ground from exhaustion.
Suddenly, Karla started running towards us with a worried expression, yelling Jackson’s name and wondering if he was still alive.
When the redhead demon heard the woman’s voice, it was as if his exhaustion had disappeared, so he stood back on his feet and gazed forward, only to be met with a tight hug from her.
At first, everyone in the group thought it was a cute, touching moment, but when the two of them started kissing, the atmosphere got a bit awkward, so we decided to leave the two lovebirds alone for the time being.
Karla had been beside Jackson ever since he accidentally revealed his demonic powers. She never treated him any differently from any human, and she even left her position as a knight just to be by his side.
Honestly, those two deserved each other.
Right when we decided to look for any survivors and heal them with potions, a large group of alchemists arrived at the scorched battlefield, pulling carts behind them with crates filled with potions.
At the front, leading the alchemists’ group, Reinar and Jeniffer waved at us with smiles on their faces, saying that the rescue team had arrived for support.
The mages and soldiers in our backlines had a few magic quartzes in their possession, which were meant to be used for emergency evacuations or to bring more soldiers to the continent without crossing the sea.
Instead, Reinar decided to use it to bring dozens of alchemists and hundreds of potions, and considering they were full of energy, they quickly began running around the battlefield in search of survivors.
