My SSS-Rank Class Is Blood Monarch!-Chapter 347 - - Exo-Burst (Part 4)
Yonathan watched as the boy walked away in complete silence. His eyes flashed with a peculiar glint. ’While this task’s goal is to get him familiar with the concept of the training, what this truly tests is something completely different.’
"Hah… Hah… One… step!" Arthur grunted as he moved his extremely heavy legs, almost dragging them on the dirt as he finally reached the first point of the trail.
"*Gulp*... Just walking to the starting point felt like a marathon already… 100 laps…" Arthur felt a chill run down his spine just imagining what he was about to do. That alone made him feel like giving up and just leaving this place instead.
However, the words Yonathan had told him were still ringing in his head, and it made him swallow his fear and finally focus on the task. The next step, all he had to do was to simply take that next step, and when he finishes that task, he tries to take another step.
Closing his eyes for a moment, Arthur breathed in before he finally moved his leg. His muscles felt the strain of that movement, but he still didn’t let it take his focus away. His leg sank into the dirt as he moved his torso forward.
’Ok… 1 step…’ He thought to himself as he gulped and then took the next step. He was surprisingly able to keep his balance without swaying or falling.
Arthur could feel that he was starting to understand what he had to do, and since he had to simply move, the actions were very repetitive. All the weight on him made it a thousand times harder, sure. But he could feel that he was able to at least move.
’I won’t look ahead of me to see how far I made it. I will simply focus on the trail ahead of me.’ He mused. The boy knew that the moment he looked up, he would realize how crushingly hard this task was, and he didn’t want to experience that feeling when he still hadn’t even made a lap around the place.
Meanwhile, Yonathan watched from afar silently. His group was also curious about the boy, so they stayed around for a while.
’So far, it is still possible. He can focus on the trail and the steps. But, once he makes ten, twenty, thirty laps… The pain and the curiosity… Would he succumb to them?’ The old man asked himself.
The biggest challenge with this form of training wasn’t exhaustion, nor was it the time it will take to do it. This task challenges something far deeper and harder to deal with. It challenges human laziness and the desire for accomplishments.
Could he truly just keep walking with his head bent down? Wouldn’t the longing for that final result make him lift his head up or think about the end?
The start might be easy, but with time and with exhaustion, that will be a huge test to Arthur’s mental strength. Yonathan couldn’t stop himself from imagining how that could end.
’Don’t disappoint me, Arthur.’
With that, the old man turned around and started walking back inside, followed by his people. It was but a matter of time before everything became clear. Whether the boy was going to make it or not.

The first 50 steps or so passed rather peacefully for Arthur. Due to the quiet nature of the place, he didn’t struggle to stay focused and alert. Each step gave him more and more confidence in himself that he could actually do it.
’Well, this isn’t really running, but I feel like I’m getting faster and faster.’ He mused as he shook the sweat off his face. The second good thing he had because of this
[Ding!]
[You have gained +1 strength, +1 agility.]
After walking for several steps, Arthur received a notification that his strength and agility had improved. He quickly understood that it was the result of this training. Since his body was under immense pressure, his muscles were being trained intensively, and that improved his body.
"50 steps… Fuuh… My stamina is still going great so far." He muttered as he exhaled a small breath. Then, he continued walking.
Step by step, he moved through the trail. Every few minutes or so, he would receive a new notification telling him that his strength, agility, and even stamina were improving slowly but gradually.
That improvement naturally didn’t feel like much on its own, but as it slowly accumulated, Arthur could feel the task getting more and more manageable. His steps were getting quicker, and it made it a lot easier for him to move.
An hour passed like a flash. Arthur’s mind was able to easily enter a zen state where he didn’t think about anything else except for the training. However, eventually, his mind snapped out of it as he realized something.
’Wait… Aren’t those my footsteps?’ He blinked as he looked slightly ahead. Amongst the countless footsteps, he could see his mixed within. That only meant one thing.

"I made one lap…" He muttered. "Already? That was actually faster than I expected. I’m still feeling quite refreshed…"
The realization gave Arthur a smile of relief. Even though it was only one lap, he still felt quite accomplished that he was able to do this. Earlier, he could barely even stand up, and now he could walk with this huge weight and make an entire lap with it.
’I really can improve as long as I put my heart and soul into it. It feels so good…’ He closed his eyes for a moment to experience that feeling before he opened them again and focused on his legs.
"But, this is just the first lap… 99 more to go." He muttered.
Arthur knew that if he relaxed now, he would simply lose all this momentum he has. So, without wasting time, he continued walking. The first lap was the easiest one; each lap after that was only going to be harder and harder.
