My spirit animal is a F–Rank gecko-Chapter 63: Azure basilisk (3)
(Jaster POV)
Zara was currently being taken care of by the waitress. Jaster saw many people looking out the window, their expressions full of fear.
Curious, he decided to peek too. He saw the monster rampaging through the street, firing electrical orbs and—
"Electric beam?" He watched the snake release a huge electric beam at the back of a building. It pierced through countless other high-rises. The big ad screen displayed on the structure began to fall and shattered into pieces on the sidewalk.
This snake... It holds so much power. I don’t remember a giant serpent rampaging in Silver City. Jaster held all the thoughts in his head, feeling like he might pass out from all the headaches.
Why do things that aren’t supposed to happen in the game keep appearing? It’s honestly tiring...
Just as he felt his head might explode, a loud chime rang in his ear, cutting through the screaming civilians.

Jaster’s face went blank staring at the white screen in front of him. He then sighed heavily.
"Great..."
The boy thought about not getting involved in this massacre whatsoever, but the quest basically forced him because of the rewards...
Core fragments... Jaster almost drooled at the sight of the reward.
Core fragments are rare gems that can be found inside legendary or mythical spirits. If one obtains these fragments, you can fuse them with your spirit animal, granting them the unique ability the previous core fragment’s owner had.
Jaster then glanced at Purple, who was on the ground trying to pat Zara’s thigh.
He imagined Purple having a core fragment, if the little gecko did, it could easily beat Adrien’s dragon later in the future.
But... Though Jaster knew a great reward always comes with a great risk. If the reward was the serpent’s core fragment, that meant the beast slithering through the city was at least a legendary spirit, it would be much worse if it were mythical.
But Jaster calmed himself down. He wanted to thank his history teacher for telling the story about the basilisk—or more properly, "basiliskos"—back on Earth. He knew exactly what to do.
Jaster looked at the waitress tending to Zara’s wound and asked her.
"Hey, what’s your spirit animal?" He said with a firm tone.
"Uhh... It’s a crab—" After hearing that, Jaster quickly dismissed her.
I need to find ’THAT’ animal to defeat the basilisk.
He looked out the window again. There were fewer people now, they’d probably been killed or managed to get away. But there was still no sign of police coming to rescue.
"I don’t think the police are coming anytime soon, so just stay here and don’t attract the snake’s attention!"
He said to the waitress. She nodded firmly before Jaster stormed off. He looked at Purple. He was conflicted, he didn’t know if Purple should stay with him or not.
The tiny gecko saw its owner’s expression and tilted its head. Then it spoke in a small voice.
"Krrk?" That was enough to give Jaster the answer he needed. (He decided to take Purple with him.)
---
Storming out of the café with Purple. The metallic scent of blood lingered heavily in the suffocating air.
Jaster took in the depressing sight of the city. He felt his heart ache seeing all the dead bodies. But he shook all of that away because he needed to find ’THAT’ specific animal to defeat the basiliskos.
Purple shivered while hiding in his pocket. The gecko didn’t like seeing all the dead bodies. Noticing this, Jaster quickly tucked Purple away.
You don’t need to see this, Purpleberry...
The boy looked everywhere for any survivors, but it was mostly empty. He saw the basilisk slither toward the back of a building.
"This is my cue!" Jaster ran to the center of the street. His shoes immediately got stained by human blood.
Oh gosh... Just then, he heard a rustling sound near a big pile of rubble.
Jaster went toward the sound. He noticed one of the rocks wiggle.
"Wait, I’ll help you!" He grabbed the huge rock and used all his strength to pull it to the ground.
He barely made it budge, and he was already panting.
"Damn it, I really need to go to the gym..." Looking for a more efficient way to lift the rock, he spotted a crowbar and an idea popped into his head.
He grabbed the cherry-red-stained crowbar and pushed against the giant rock. With the help of the pry bar, he managed to tip the rock over. It crashed to the ground, breaking into a thousand pieces.
Inside, he saw a man stuck in the rubble.
"Help..." His voice was weak, and blood dripped from his head.
"I’ll push you out, okay!" He managed to push the man out of the rubble, and they both lay on the pavement, catching their breath.
Jaster just remembered what he wanted to ask. He got up and looked at the man.
"Hey, what’s your spirit animal?" The man was confused and raised an eyebrow, but didn’t question Jaster further.
"It’s a bear. Why do you ask?"
Damn it, not the right one! He rubbed his head and heard the sound of something scraping against harsh rock.
"Is it the monster?" the man asked.
"I don’t know, but it’s better not to find out!" He saw the man’s leg was badly injured, he couldn’t walk. So the boy decided to help the man limp toward the café.
The two of them walked painfully slow, with the man having to take a break every few seconds. Just then, he heard the rustling sound again.
"It’s getting closer. We have no time!"
"Wait—" Ignoring the man, Jaster decided to speed up their pace. Each sound of rustling made him go faster and faster, until he felt something touch his back.
Panicked, he quickly turned around, but was relieved to see a familiar face. It was Stella, with a kid hiding behind her back.
Jaster could see she had a hard time from all the injuries and scratches on her clothes. Stella said with heavy breath.
"Let me... help you!" With Stella helping him, they reached the café faster and finally made it inside. The waitress saw Jaster holding the injured man and rushed outside to help him in.
"Okay... We should be safe inside until the police come!" Stella rubbed her sweaty forehead. She was about to walk inside with the kid when Jaster said—
"No."
