My Sniper System in a Zombie Apocalypse World-Chapter 75: Not Just Weapons
Natasha still looked puzzled, but Cindy’s eyes sparkled with excitement. "A storage space! Brother, that’s amazing! So you really have that cheat skill too! You’re like a walking warehouse!"
Unlike Cindy, Isabel and Natasha were unfamiliar with the concept. Jaxon explained it slowly, showing them how it worked.
"Well," Natasha said after a pause, "it’s not that strange. Since you already have that absurd system, having another absurd skill... I guess it fits. Yeah, that’s right." Her mind was still processing the idea, trying to grasp how something so magical could exist in reality.
Jaxon chuckled at her reaction. Then he looked at Cindy and smiled. Now that he thought about it, when they were younger, Cindy always followed him around, curious about everything he did. His habit of reading novels must have influenced her to read fantasy novels as well. That’s why she knew about systems and such, she was familiar with the tropes and conventions of the genre.
Natasha, on the other hand, had a very different upbringing. Isabel had trained her from an early age, teaching her business, strategy, and how to handle the "real world." She spent most of her youth studying and preparing for a career, unlike Jaxon, who had stayed in his room, lost in games and novels.
Thinking back, Jaxon realized how Cindy and Natasha had always tried to reach and cheer him on. Trying to break through the walls he built around himself as an orphan who was abandoned by his own parents before he turned seven.
Jaxon didn’t even remember their faces anymore, yet their absence left a hollow, confusing emptiness he didn’t understand himself. Growing up, he became a loner, cautious and wary of people, careful never to let anyone get too close.
It was only because of Isabel, Natasha, and Cindy cared for him, treated him like family, that he learned to live somewhat normally again. Trust was still rare for him, but with them, it felt possible.
Jaxon unconsciously smiled as he recalled those times.
"Why are you smiling, Brother?" Cindy’s cheerful voice broke through his thoughts.
"Nothing. Just remembering old times," Jaxon shook his head, a small smile still playing on his lips. Then he summoned another item from his storage space, holding it out towards Cindy. "Here, I brought you something you might need."
Cindy’s eyes went wide. Before he could say another word, she practically leapt at him, hugging him tightly. "Brother! I love you! You’re the best!"
Isabel and Natasha turned to watch, their expressions softening in surprise as Jaxon held out a package of feminine pads.
"Oh... wow," Isabel murmured, her cheeks turning pink. "I didn’t think we’d see these again... That’s incredibly thoughtful, Jaxon."
Cindy bounced slightly on her feet, still clinging to him. "It’s perfect! Now I don’t have to worry about... anything. Thank you, Brother! You’re a lifesaver!"
.....
As the whole group gathered around the table, they shared a simple but satisfying meal while discussing their plans.
Natasha had brought up the topic of joining the train evacuation. As they expected, almost everyone preferred to take it. Jaxon and Natasha agreed as well. They still kept in mind the possible risks, but the benefits clearly outweighed them, at least, that’s what they thought.
With that, the plan was set. Now, they only needed to make it safely to the train station.
Meanwhile, Natasha began assigning tasks for the newcomers, since they would be staying here for a while.
"I’ll take the night watch," Jaxon volunteered. He couldn’t afford to miss hunting and gathering coins now that he had just unlocked that broken exclusive skill.
Claire and Elaine joined Isabel and the others for cleaning and cooking, contributing to the upkeep of their temporary shelter.
Bong-gu was paired with Burgors as lookouts during the day, providing an extra layer of security. Na-rin joined Cindy for drone surveillance, utilizing their technological expertise to monitor the surrounding area.
After a pause, Jaxon spoke again. "How about we start some basic training too?"
"What kind of training are you talking about?" Elaine asked, curious.
"Stamina and movement drills. Close combat too, if possible," Jaxon said. "The infected are faster and stronger than us. Doing nothing won’t help, we need to get better, even just a little."
Elena nodded slowly, agreeing with the idea, but her eyebrow arched in question. "And who’s going to be teaching?"
"Who else has the best experience for this? Let’s make use of your knowledge. Didn’t you say last time you were one of the top police officers?" Jaxon said, grinning at her.
"I didn’t say that," Elena retorted, rolling her eyes.
"So you weren’t? And here I thought you were one all along. Looks like I was mistaken," Jaxon said, shaking his head and feigning disappointment.
"I know what you’re trying to do, Jaxon. That trick won’t work on me," Elena said, shaking her head with a chuckle.
"The feminine pads... I’ll give you more," Jaxon added casually.
"Alright, alright, I’ll handle it," Elena quickly agreed, laughing. Then her expression shifted, turning serious. "But if you want to learn, you have to take it seriously. I’ll be teaching real police training. No slackers allowed."
"Sister Elena, can we join too?" Hiromi asked, her eyes shining with enthusiasm, with Jannah nodding eagerly beside her.
"We all should join," Jaxon said, smiling at the twins. "We have enough supplies, so there really isn’t anything we need to worry about. But I won’t force anyone who doesn’t want to."
Isabel, Cindy, and Natasha agreed, nodding in unison. They had already had some shooting practice and physical exercises before with Jaxon and knew how essential physical capabilities were when fighting with rifles.
Hannah and Burgors also nodded, following the group, while Haris’s wounds were still healing, preventing him from participating for now. Elaine and the students exchanged nervous glances, weighing their own abilities.
"Everyone, let’s try our best and join too. It’s a good opportunity to learn something new and improve our chances of survival," Elaine said, encouraging her students.
"I’ll do my best," Hae-in said, giving Na-rin and Claire an encouraging nod. She didn’t want to stumble again and need Jaxon to carry her like last time.
"All right... I’ll join too," Bong-gu said, seeing that everyone else was participating, even those twins. Physical activity wasn’t their strongest suit. Elaine had been a Chemistry and Physics instructor before, while they were students studying in the STEM Strand. They were more accustomed to lab coats and textbooks than combat.
"Please take care of us, Miss Elena," Elaine said, and the others nodded in agreement.
"Good spirit. Keep that up during the training. No backing out now, we’ll start later." Elena grinned.
