Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Target Selection

From the sensitive smell of the Wild Boar People, it’s not hard to deduce that bat monsters might have bloodline talents in hearing due to living long-term in winding caves.

If I can acquire Sensitive Hearing, not to mention anything else, in future battles, he shouldn’t easily let the mission target attack first.

Indeed, it may allow him to gain the initiative.

Additionally, regarding the battle with the Wild Boar Warrior last time, Raine reflected and felt that although the Freezing Ray is good, its control power is not strong enough, especially when facing powerful monsters, its effect is minimal.

It’s best to obtain some abilities that enhance battlefield control. After carefully reviewing the Basic Monster Atlas of Mill Town, Raine targeted the Deep Moss Spider.

This spider-type monster with a Challenge Level of one, once successfully slain, Raine believes there’s a chance he could acquire a similar immobilizing ability like web spitting.

Thus, in response to Reya’s inquiry, Raine initially wanted to say ’it’s best to find mission targets like bats or spiders.’

But he quickly realized that mission commissions may not always be so coincidental to have tasks for clearing such demons.

At least recently, he hasn’t seen a similar commission.

In such a situation, doing other tasks is not unacceptable to Raine; at least he can practice Shield Bash and Armor-Piercing Strike combat skills in actual combat.

Therefore, in response to Reya’s inquiry, Raine answered: "Why not check it out at the Adventurer’s Association tomorrow?"

"Okay, then everyone, let’s end our gathering here today. Cheers!" Reya nodded, smiled, and raised her glass again.

....

The next morning.

Raine, as usual, first went to a small grove on the outskirts of Mill Town. After practicing the Freezing Ray and Barbaric Charge, he headed to the Adventurer’s Association.

By this time, Reya and a few others had already arrived. Seeing Raine coming, they immediately waved and greeted him.

"Quite a few tasks were updated today. Take a look and see if there’s one suitable for our squad, and then we’ll discuss it." Reya pointed at the bulletin board crowded with adventurers on both sides of the hall as everyone was present.

"Oh? Updated?" Raine raised an eyebrow, feeling a bit of anticipation rising inside him.

They immediately gathered around the bulletin board to check.

Raine’s gaze quickly focused on a few newly posted thin sheepskins:

Raine’s eyes slightly widened.

He saw the third task explicitly stated Giant Vampire Bat.

Finally found it!

Not easy.

"I just looked over, why not choose this task to kill the goblins? A mid-sized group of goblins is about thirty to forty, which should not be difficult for our squad," Chris suggested.

"I’m indifferent." Fabian’s fingers continued playing with a dagger, showing no strong opinion on task selection.

"I have a thought, I want to choose this Task 282." Raine coughed and proactively spoke.

"Hmm?"

Upon hearing Raine’s words, the group focused their eyes on the task labeled 282 on the bulletin board.

"Giant Vampire Bat?"

"Raine, why did you think to undertake this task? You know that bat caves are not the same as goblin caves," Chris asked in surprise.

Although the individual strength of Giant Vampire Bats exceeds that of goblins, for their squad, this isn’t the primary concern.

It’s because they are both cave-dwelling creatures, and goblins don’t fly. The terrain inside goblin caves is relatively flat; if there are larger goblins, the cave’s spaciousness can be quite satisfactory.

But bat caves are different.

The bats can fly, with the cave terrain undulating, and some tunnel interiors suddenly become narrow, making it difficult for humans to maneuver once inside.

Especially for their team, Reya’s archery is a major combat strength, but if they enter the bat cave, she’s unlikely to exert her rightful combat force.

After Chris’ inquiry, others curiously looked at Raine.

"As for goblins, there’s always an opportunity; however, the task to clear Giant Vampire Bats is quite rare, and as an adventurer, I want to accumulate experience against different demons."

Raine shared the thoughts he had prepared.

"Yes, the task for Giant Vampire Bats is indeed rare. Let’s follow Raine’s suggestion then," Reya glanced at Raine, thought for a moment, and was the first to agree.

Seeing the squad’s leader and main archer Reya agree, controlled by space limitations, Chris and Fabian exchanged glances and could only shrug and say: "Alright, Raine, you have the final say."

"I haven’t experienced Giant Vampire Bats before, this time I can gather some experience," Grande nodded earnestly and said.

"Thank you!" Raine thanked them with a smile.

He could see that most likely everyone was accommodating his opinion due to his excellent performance in last time’s battle with the Wild Boar Warrior.

"But Raine, please trust me, you won’t like that cramped environment when the time comes," Fabian smiled and said.

Last night at the Fireplace Bar, Raine heard Fabian mention their squad had completed tasks concerning bat monsters before.

"Well...maybe this time we can change the strategy," Chris suggested.

"Let’s first procure some reinforced nets, then try using toxic smoke. If the cave isn’t too deep and lacks other ventilation shafts, it might be effective."

"Good idea."

Raine’s goal was to slay Giant Vampire Bats to see if he could acquire their bloodline and master Sensitive Hearing.

Since there’s a better way to kill without delving deep into narrow caves, he naturally agreed.

"Well, I’ll take on the task first." Reya’s eyes also brightened, nodding in agreement.
