Chapter 90: Another Problems In The Morning After a Month Of Calm

A month passed, and the news trending everywhere was a massive investigation into a company called BW Construction; the CEO was being held at his home and was still under investigation. Dennis looked at the news on his smartphone screen, which displayed a newspaper blog that updated every morning and evening, as he walked to school. Since the match against Willow High, life for Dennis and Daisy had been pretty ordinary—going to school, heading home, studying together, and repeating the cycle every day.

Daisy, walking beside Dennis, glanced at his smartphone and read along with him.

"Finally, the investigation is starting, and after that, the company will definitely shut down because the city government will seize everything," Daisy said with a smile.

"Yep, a father has to pay for his son’s actions, especially when the son is arrogant and thinks no law can touch him," Dennis replied.

"And Jason’s small claims court hearing is today, right?" Daisy asked Dennis.

"Yep... today. Jason and Kimberly asked us, Gary, and Olivia to go with them to court last night," Dennis said.

"Hmm... I’m curious to see what Sean’s face looks like now that his old man is a major case in this city," Daisy replied.

"Well... we’ll just have to wait and see," Dennis replied.

Suddenly, "kyaa... monster!" a scream echoed from the middle of the park beside them. Both of them immediately froze as they saw people running out of the park, along with commuters and students who had been taking a shortcut through the grounds. Dennis and Daisy looked at each other, then immediately ran into the park.

When they reached the center, they saw a dimensional rift torn open. There were several crawlers they usually saw, known as spider crawlers, a tusk crawler, and the most terrifying one—a crab crawler like the one they had seen on Exclamation Island in the northern territory.

"Skrieeek,"

Seeing Dennis and Daisy, the crawlers immediately lunged to attack them. Naturally, Dennis just stood there casually with his arms folded across his chest because, "crack," in an instant, Daisy Number Three, Number Four, and Number Six finished off every single enemy. Meanwhile, Number Five gathered the monster parts and stored them away, and Number Seven closed the dimensional rift using her massive scythe. "Vwooong," an interface screen popped up in front of Dennis’s face.

Daisy returned, and Dennis hurriedly switched off his status screen. When Daisy stood before him looking quite proud, Dennis immediately kissed her forehead and stroked her head, like a parent rewarding a small child for a job well done. Then, the two of them resumed their casual walk out of the park, holding hands as they headed toward their school; the atmosphere inside the park returned to a calm state, as if nothing had happened at all.

Once they entered the gates after walking along the sidewalk for a while, they spotted Jason and Kimberly just coming out of the school’s motorcycle parking lot. Jason and Kimberly turned to see the two of them, then immediately headed over to meet Dennis and Daisy as they walked their way.

"You just getting here too, dude?" Jason asked Dennis.

"Yep, same as you," Dennis answered.

"Is it still on for this afternoon after school?" Daisy asked the both of them.

"Of course. Today’s the day I finally get reimbursed for my bike’s repair costs," Jason said.

"Right. Olivia’s dad gave us a briefing yesterday because in small claims court, he can only sit in the back and watch; he isn’t allowed to represent us or stand by our side," Kimberly added.

"But all the evidence has been submitted, right?" Dennis asked.

"It’s already been handed over to the court, don’t worry about it," Jason answered.

"Nice. That means all we have to do is show up and wait for the gavel to drop," Daisy replied.

"Exactly right. Come on, let’s head inside together," Kimberly replied.

But as they were walking inside, "yank," Jason’s collar was suddenly jerked backward so hard he almost fell, if not for Dennis being quick enough to catch him and pull him back. Naturally, Dennis, Jason, Daisy, and Kimberly all spun around. They were shocked to see Sean standing behind them, his uniform a mess like a villain from a low-budget movie; his eyes were bloodshot as if he hadn’t slept in days, and his face looked haggard and unkempt yet full of rage. To top it off, his hands were clenched into trembling fists. Then, Sean pointed right in Jason’s face.

"This is all your fault! My family is ruined... you have to take responsibility," Sean screamed in a rage.

Without missing a beat, Dennis, Jason, Daisy, and Kimberly pulled out their smartphones and hit record. Seeing the four of them filming, Sean made a stupid move and lunged at them to grab their cameras, shouting, "Don’t record me!" When his hand touched Dennis, who was right in front, Dennis instantly grabbed his arm and pulled. Then, Dennis swung Sean like a piece of laundry and slammed him onto the ground behind him.

A loud thud, like the sound of cracking earth, echoed as Sean’s back hit the ground with massive force. Sean immediately spit up saliva, his eyes bulging and his face turning red as he struggled to breathe; the impact had knocked the wind out of him, feeling as though he’d fallen back-first from a second-story window. Dennis stood over him, looking down, then squatted while still recording and patted Sean’s cheek.

"Hey... you’re still alive, right?" Dennis asked.

"D... damn you... you... you attacked me... I’m calling the police," Sean stammered, forcing the words out through his gasping breaths.

"Whoa, sorry, but there’s camera footage, and the recording clearly shows you made the first move. So go ahead, call them. Let’s see whose side the police take, buddy," Dennis said with a smile.

Sean went silent, with only the sound of his heavy breathing filling the air. He realized he had charged first in a fit of emotion and the footage was undeniable; besides, it wasn’t just Dennis recording—his two friends and his wife were filming the same thing and could act as witnesses. Then, Jason squatted down next to Sean, causing Sean to glance over at his face.

"See you in court later. You trashed my bike and haven’t paid up yet; today, this all gets settled, okay," Jason said with a smile.

Sean didn’t talk back; he just stared at Jason’s face with a look of pure fear and hatred, breathing heavily. A few security guards rushed over right away, telling Dennis and Jason that Sean had snuck in and managed to slip past the guys guarding the gate. Dennis and Jason stood back up, and then two of the guards forced Sean to his feet, propping him up as they hauled him toward the gate. Sean couldn’t walk on his own—probably because a few of his ribs were cracked or his spine was absolutely trashed.

Dennis and Jason just stared at the two security guards carrying Sean away. Daisy and Kimberly immediately looped their arms through their husbands’ sleeves, watching Sean being escorted off with sharp, piercing glares.

"Crazy. I mean, we’re going to see him this afternoon anyway; I guess he just couldn’t wait and had to come here this morning to cause trouble," Kimberly said, shaking her head.

"Yep... totally nuts. Oh yeah, back at the restaurant, when did those Red Wind kids—including him—actually leave? As far as I remember, once we finished laughing and they were fixing their sagging pants, they were still sitting there; after that, we started drinking and they were just gone," Dennis said, turning to look at his friends and his wife.

"They left, for sure. I saw them walk out with their heads down as they passed us," Daisy said.

"You were already wasted by then, dude, that’s why you didn’t see it. I saw them too; they walked out like dogs that just got kicked and beaten," Jason added.

"Yep, exactly. Back then, it was because Rachel kept staring at them—her eyes even followed them all the way out, haha," Kimberly added.

"So I guess I’m the only one who didn’t see it. That’s pretty bad," Dennis muttered.

"It’s okay, honey, I’ve kind of forgotten the details myself," Daisy said, turning to look at Dennis.

"Forget it, let’s just get inside; we’re going to end up late because of that psycho," Jason urged.

Then they turned and walked together toward the school building, chatting casually as if nothing had happened just moments before. Meanwhile, the other students who were walking in or hanging out in the front courtyard—having clearly seen what just went down—began to give Dennis a wide berth again, doing their best not to bump into him or do anything that might make him angry.
