My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 82: The New Core Team Join the Fray ? Oh, Just The Girls.
After the round ended, and before the start of round three, the teams were given a twenty-minute break. This time, Dennis, Daisy, Gary, Olivia, Jason, Kimberly, Rika, and Elisa didn’t head down to meet their school’s senior team; they stayed in their spectator seats. All eight of them looked satisfied with the results of the second round that had just finished, but they were focused on discussing the enemy’s strength.
"If we were the ones fighting them, could we have wiped out that first line of undead?" Olivia asked while deep in thought.
"Hmm... yeah, just shoot everything until it’s all gone," Kimberly answered casually.
"Wow... it’s not that easy, though," Jason shot back.
"True. Our senior team has Minji, who can wipe everything out at once and leave it clean... none of us are like Minji," Gary said, thinking it over.
"Actually, there is someone... Daisy number seven," Dennis muttered to himself while glancing at his wife, who looked completely relaxed beside him.
Noticing Dennis looking her way, Daisy turned to him with a smile, though her face was full of questions.
"What is it, honey?" Daisy whispered.
"Oh, nothing. I just wanted to look at you," Dennis answered, sounding a bit flirtatious.
"Stop... don’t embarrass me," Daisy replied, instantly turning shy as she gave Dennis’s upper arm a playful little swat.
Dennis went back to listening to his friends’ conversation, remaining quiet without saying a word, just like Daisy who stayed silent, leaning against Dennis’s arm. Suddenly, Steve approached them as they sat, accompanied by a woman in her 30s wearing a blazer with a stern expression, as well as the six core team members from Willow—Rachel and her friends. Steve stood right in front of the six of them, who looked confused at his presence.
"Can I have a moment of your time?" Steve asked Dennis, Daisy, Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly.
"Um... what’s going on, sir?" asked Gary, standing up followed by the others.
"Because Ivan and his team have to return to the hunter guild for an urgent mission and their strength is needed, you all will be replacing them in the third round of the match, but there is a small request from the Willow side. Please, Ms. Kamala," Steve said to the woman beside him.
"Hello, my name is Kamala Singh. I am a teacher at Willow Private School. For round three, we are requesting that the match be held as a three-on-three instead. However... they have a request for me. Go ahead," Kamala said, turning to look at her students after introducing herself.
Immediately, Brigitte, Natasha, and Harumi stepped forward. The three of them stared down Olivia, Daisy, and Kimberly.
"I want to fight you in the third round," Natasha said, pointing at Daisy with a smile.
"Hoo... is that so... with pleasure," Daisy replied, appearing so provoked that she took off her glasses, several veins clearly bulging on her face even though she was smiling.
"Then I want to fight you," Brigitte said, pointing at Olivia with a slightly arrogant look on her face.
"Okay, bring it on," Olivia shot back, looking provoked with her face full of bulging veins.
"And of course, I’ll take you on. You’re down, right? You’ve already seen my power, haven’t you?" Harumi asked, pointing at Kimberly.
"Yeah, I’ve seen it, and I’m dying to test you out," Kimberly answered with a smile, but her lips were trembling and the veins on her face were popping, showing she was absolutely livid.
Dennis, Gary, and Jason were left confused; the three of them turned to look at Steve, who was standing next to Kamala.
"Mr. Steve, you’re okay with this?" Gary asked.
"Yes, don’t worry. There are no stakes involved. They’re just curious and want to test your skills while they have the chance," Steve answered with a nod.
"That’s right, don’t worry, we don’t intend to apply our school’s rules to this battle," Kamala added.
"I just want to see what you’re capable of, that’s all—nothing more. After this, I hope we can all be friends," Rachel said to Gary.
"Hmm," Gary muttered, turning to look at Dennis and Jason because he was at a loss for words.
Dennis and Jason could only stand there dazed, unable to say a thing, but suddenly, Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly stepped forward.
"Okay, I agree, sir," Daisy said.
"Yeah, me too," Olivia added.
"No need to even ask; they’ve clearly challenged us," Kimberly added.
Rika and Elisa, watching and listening to the conversation, could only stay silent, staring on with expressionless faces. Meanwhile, Rachel sighed, looking as if she were exhausted from managing everything. She then turned toward her teammates.
"You heard them, they’ve agreed. But please, don’t overdo it," Rachel said.
"Got it, don’t worry Rach," Brigitte replied.
"No need to worry about that; we’ll take care of them quickly," Natasha added.
"Exactly, exactly," Harumi added, nodding along.
"Hey... are you looking down on me?" Daisy asked, already starting to heat up.
"Watch your mouth," Olivia added.
"You think we’re weak? You’ll see out on the field," Kimberly added.
"Oh boy, please don’t be angry. No one is looking down on anyone, don’t take it so seriously," Margaret said, stepping in to mediate.
"That’s right, please. They’re just talking, they don’t mean anything by it. This is a friendly match so we can be friends in the future," Sofia chimed in.
"Grrr," Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly growled, glaring at Natasha, Brigitte, and Harumi. Gary and Jason were at a loss for words, only able to put their arms around their respective wives, while Dennis looked worried, glancing at his furious wife whose hand—which he was holding—was trembling and hot to the touch. Then, Dennis leaned his face close to Daisy’s ear.
"Hey, don’t overdo it, okay? I’m going to open a telepathic link, so we can talk while you’re in the arena," Dennis said.
"Don’t worry, honey. This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. I won’t overdo it, and of course, I’ll talk to you later through telepathy," Daisy replied.
"Good. Give it your all, honey," Dennis said; he knew there was nothing else he could say to convince Daisy to back down or decline the challenge.
After that, Steve and Kamala took Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly to the operator room to speak with the Hunter Guild staff before heading down to the arena, followed by Natasha, Brigitte, and Harumi. Dennis, Gary, and Jason sat back down in their seats with tense expressions, but then they were shocked when Rachel, Sofia, and Margaret sat in their row, with only a single empty seat between them. Dennis turned to look at Rachel, who was sitting next to him with that one empty chair separating them.
"Um... why are you sitting here instead of over there?" Dennis asked, pointing toward the Willow supporters who were also turning to look at him with faces that seemed to ask, "what on earth is going on?"
"Oh, it’s fine, isn’t it? We’re friends, after all, so just relax," Rachel answered casually while looking straight ahead.
Dennis went back to silence and leaned back, his face once again facing forward. The atmosphere became quiet and stiff, a tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. Dennis, Gary, and Jason could only sit there like statues, and Rika and Elisa were the same. Meanwhile, Rachel, Margaret, and Sofia seemed relaxed, chatting about whatever crossed their minds without discussing the match or any analysis at all. Gary shifted closer to Dennis.
"Why are they sitting here?" Gary asked in a whisper, knowing Dennis had already asked Rachel.
"She said it’s because we’re friends... that’s all," Dennis answered in a whisper.
"They don’t have some ulterior motive, do they? Like holding us hostage or something?" Jason asked, leaning his head forward and whispering.
"Who knows... maybe we’re being used as collateral to threaten Olivia, Daisy, and Kimberly," Gary whispered back.
"I really hope not," Dennis muttered in a whisper. "It could be bad if Daisy sees them sitting here... I hope no problems break out," Dennis said to himself.
Gary and Jason fell silent again; the vibe was still incredibly awkward. Dennis turned to look toward the left wing and noticed that many hunters seemed to have already left, leaving only a few people behind. It seemed what Steve said was true—there was a sudden mission, and Ivan and the others had gone straight to work because their strength was needed.
While Dennis was sitting in silence, suddenly, "tuck... tuck," someone tapped his shoulder. He turned to see the faces of Rachel, Sofia, and Margaret from a very close distance. All three were wearing wide, friendly smiles. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Hey, don’t just stay quiet. Let’s talk! We want to get to know you guys," Rachel said with a smile so bright it made Dennis lean back, bumping into Gary and causing Jason to poke his head forward to look at Rachel, Margaret, and Sofia.
Dennis, Gary, and Jason could only watch as Rachel, Sofia, and Margaret shifted over to occupy the seats right in the middle of them, moving in close. Dennis, Gary, and Jason immediately leaned back with awkward smiles on their faces; they were completely bewildered but didn’t want to offend Rachel and the others. Rika and Elisa, witnessing the scene, simply shook their heads but remained silent, not saying a word.
