Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Never to Meet Again in This Life

After Noah finished asking, everyone in the room looked at Renee Winslow.

Renee Winslow smiled at Noah and explained softly, "Mom doesn’t have Dad’s photo on her phone right now, so you can’t see it. I’ll show you when we get home, okay?"

Noah nodded vigorously, "Okay, Mom."

After reassuring Noah, Renee Winslow looked up at Aiden Grant, "Can you come outside? I have something to tell you."

Jack Yates squinted his eyes, "..."

Declan Donovan had just picked up his teacup, ready to drink, but his hand trembled at Renee’s words, spilling tea on his pants.

Aiden Grant hurriedly looked at Jack Yates, "Third Brother, I..."

Jack Yates said indifferently, "Go out."

Renee Winslow patted little Noah on the head and said softly, "Mom has something to say to Uncle. You can play at Grandma Young’s house for a while. I’ll pick you up after I’m done talking."

"Okay." Little Noah nodded heavily, "Mom, go. I’ll play with Uncle Yates."

In the room, there’s only one person with the surname "Yates."

Renee Winslow glanced at Jack Yates, who was sitting on the short sofa, and said tactfully, "With Grandma Young, Uncle Tierney, and other uncles around, you can play with whoever you want."

The implication was that he didn’t necessarily have to play with Jack Yates.

Besides, with Jack Yates’ cold and stern appearance, looking like the Grim Reaper, she couldn’t picture him playing with a child. Just thinking about it felt bizarre.

After speaking, she was about to leave, but saw little Noah twisting his round body, running to Jack Yates like a little cannonball, and softly calling, "Uncle Yates."

Jack Yates lifted him onto his lap, gently stroked his little head, and smiled warmly, "Good boy."

Renee Winslow was as if she’d seen a ghost, her mouth twitched, but she said nothing in the end.

Downstairs, Renee Winslow walked to a clump of banana trees, a secluded spot with few passersby.

Aiden Grant caught up with her, standing three steps away, and asked with a smile, "What’s the matter?"

Renee Winslow looked at him seriously, "Noah’s mom originally asked me not to tell you about this. She didn’t want to disturb you. But since you’ve actively sought me out, I think there’s no need to hide it. You should know the truth."

Aiden Grant knew what Renee Winslow wanted to say but pretended not to know, "What truth?"

Renee Winslow got straight to the point, "Noah Sawyer is your child."

Aiden Grant chuckled but didn’t respond.

If it were anyone else, he would have retorted, "Where’s the evidence?" But since it was Renee Winslow, he didn’t dare challenge her, mainly because he didn’t want to offend Jack Yates.

Renee Winslow saw the meaning in Aiden Grant’s smile and said directly, "I’m not trying to scam you. Whether he’s yours or not, you can have a DNA test."

Aiden Grant laughed indifferently, "Okay, I’ll have the test done tomorrow."

Earlier, Jack Yates had mentioned it to him, suggesting he should have a DNA test, but he hadn’t taken it seriously.

Because he was certain the child couldn’t be his!

As for this Rowan Sawyer, he’d never even heard of her. If it weren’t for investigating Renee Winslow this time, he wouldn’t have known such a person existed.

He’d seen the photo, didn’t recognize her at all, never even met her!

Renee Winslow watched Aiden Grant’s indifferent attitude, and though she originally didn’t want to say more, she couldn’t hold back in the end.

"Noah’s mom is called Rowan Sawyer, and her name is just the reverse of mine. When I went to Alchester, she was pregnant with Noah.

Because our names were similar, we quickly became friends. After that, we supported each other, like family.

When Noah was one and a half years old, she was diagnosed with cancer. Before she passed away, she planned to send Noah to an orphanage. I couldn’t bear it, so I adopted Noah."

Aiden Grant laughed helplessly, "I really don’t know who the woman you’re talking about is. I’ve never even heard her name."

Renee Winslow: "She was two years your junior, attended the same middle school, high school, and university as you, and had a crush on you for ten years. Five years ago, during your university’s anniversary celebration, she also participated. After the banquet, you had a one-night stand, and that’s when Noah came to be."

Aiden Grant couldn’t smile anymore.

Although he didn’t remember this "Rowan Sawyer," he knew he had indeed had a fling with a woman that night.

As for who it was, he didn’t know, nor did he care.

After all, everyone was an adult; occasionally having a one-night stand was nothing out of the ordinary.

Seeing his expression finally change, Renee Winslow softened her tone.

"If the DNA test confirms Noah is your child, I’d ask Mr. Grant to calculate the child support for these years, but you can’t take the child back to the Grant Family.

I believe Mr. Grant wouldn’t want to take Noah home either, or else, what would you tell Mrs. Grant?"

Aiden Grant curled his lips, "I’m not married; I don’t have a wife. The ’Mrs. Grant’ you’re referring to is my mom. If she knew she had a grandson, she might..."

Renee Winslow’s tone immediately turned sharp, "No ’might.’ Before Noah turns eighteen, I won’t let him be separated from me. I promised his mom I would take care of him until he’s eighteen. After that, it’s his own choice."

Aiden Grant nodded quickly, "Alright, I promise you."

Renee Winslow: "After the DNA results are out, and it’s determined he’s yours, please buy us a school district house in Ashville, paid in full."

Aiden Grant: "... Alright."

They both went back upstairs, where Renee Winslow watched Noah nestling in Jack Yates’ arms, listening intently to a story. She called out, "Noah."

Noah slid off Jack Yates’ lap and ran over to Renee Winslow obediently, calling her "Mom."

Renee Winslow bent down to hug him, speaking softly, "Baby, in a moment, Mom needs to pull out two of your hairs. It might hurt a bit, so be brave."

Noah raised his chubby little hands to cover his head, looking at Renee Winslow with clear, round eyes, "It hurts, Mom, don’t pull."

Renee Winslow held out two fingers, "Two hairs, for two chocolates."

Noah put down one hand and extended three chubby little fingers, "Three chocolates."

Renee Winslow agreed with a smile, "Alright."

After agreeing, Renee Winslow quickly plucked a few hairs from him, wrapped them in a napkin, and handed them to Aiden Grant.

"Once the results are out, Mr. Grant, don’t forget the promise you made to me."

Declan Donovan quickly asked, "What promise?"

Aiden Grant: "To buy them mother and son a school district house in Ashville."

Declan Donovan: "..."

Jack Yates squinted his eyes, his deep gaze firmly fixed on Renee Winslow.

Renee Winslow smiled at Professor Young, "Aunty Young, Noah and I are heading back."

Professor Young tried to keep her, "There’s no one to cook at home for you. You might as well eat here before going back."

Renee Winslow smiled slightly, "Thank you, Aunty, I’ve already eaten out."

Back home, Renee Winslow pulled Noah to sit on the sofa, first asking about his day at preschool.

Then she asked, "Baby, have you met Uncle Yates before today?"

Just as she finished asking, the doorbell rang.

Renee Winslow walked to the door, looked outside through the electronic peephole, and saw it was Aiden Grant.

After carefully confirming Jack Yates wasn’t there, she opened the door.

With the door open, she politely asked, "Mr. Grant, what brings you here?"

Aiden Grant glanced inside, "I want to talk about the child. May I come in?"

Renee Winslow stepped aside, "Mr. Grant, come in."

Aiden Grant stood at the entrance, looking at the shoe cabinet, "Should I change my shoes?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Renee Winslow: "No need, there are no men’s slippers at home, nor any shoe covers. You can just come in directly."

Aiden Grant silently noted the absence of men’s slippers, intending to report this to Third Master Yates later.

With purpose, he entered the room, first smiling at Noah, then taking in the whole living room.

Noah lifted his little head, curiously asking, "Uncle Grant, what are you looking at?"

Aiden Grant smiled, touching his soft cheek, "Nothing in particular."

Despite saying there was nothing to see, he craned his neck toward the balcony, checking for any men’s clothes.

Renee Winslow couldn’t be bothered to expose him, speaking with a dull tone, "Mr. Grant, are we here to talk or not?"

"Let’s talk!" Aiden Grant promptly sat on the sofa.

Renee Winslow poured him a glass of water and sent Noah back to his room to watch cartoons.

"Mr. Grant, please go ahead."

Aiden Grant coughed, struggling to speak, "Here’s the thing, if Noah is indeed my child, I must bring him back to the Grant Family."

Renee Winslow immediately frowned, "Why are you going back on your word?"

Aiden Grant spoke with a helpless tone, "I am his biological father after all, and you have no blood relation with him. I am his rightful guardian."

Renee Winslow was taken aback and suddenly laughed, "Did Jack Yates send you?"

Aiden Grant hurriedly denied, "No!"

The denial was so quick it seemed suspicious, prompting him to explain further, "Don’t misunderstand, Third Master didn’t send me. This isn’t related to him, I decided to reclaim the child on my own."

Renee Winslow clearly didn’t believe him. Earlier downstairs, when she mentioned Noah was his child, Aiden Grant showed no concern and had no intention of reclaiming him. It was less than half an hour ago; how could his stance change so drastically?

"Why don’t you have Jack Yates come over, I’d like to speak to him directly."

Aiden Grant, filled with delight, asked, "Are you really asking Third Master to come up?"

Renee Winslow smirked, "Call him."

Aiden Grant asked, "Don’t you have his number?"

Renee Winslow remained silent, her smile coolly fixed on him.

Aiden Grant, "Alright, I’ll call him."

He quickly dialed Jack Yates’ number and excitedly said, "Third Master, come up, Renee wants you to."

Jack Yates sighed helplessly, gritting his teeth, "You stupid pig!"

Aiden Grant: "..."

Jack Yates: "Tell her I’ve already left."

Aiden Grant, "But I have it on speaker, she already heard."

Jack Yates: "..."

Renee Winslow lowered her head, speaking to Jack Yates through Aiden Grant’s phone, "Jack Yates, stand tall with your pride, don’t let me look down on you."

Jack Yates laughed, "In front of you, do I even have pride left?"

Renee Winslow: "You once said you’d never see me again in this life, hope you stick to your word."

Jack Yates’ face tightened, his protruding Adam’s apple rolled several times, throat scorching as though sand had been grinding against it, leaving his voice hoarse and deep, "Alright."

The late autumn night was already quite cold.

Yet Jack Yates felt a fire burning in his heart, only for it to be quickly extinguished by frost and snow.

He lowered his head, tongue pressing against the roof of his mouth, chuckling cynically.

Never to meet again in this life.
