My Players Are So Fierce – Handsome dog Frank-Chapter 2214 - 739: Murphy? Who the Hell Is That? How Could a Dignified Gold Psychic Like Me Be at His Beck and Call?
"The mission failed, Lord."
Several hours later, Duchess Shani, who had just arrived in Bernel City, received some distressing news. She turned back to Lord Paryen, who had accompanied her by flying vehicle through the snow, and said softly: 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"But it’s already confirmed that the target is ’Dragon Flame’ Lena, the one Murphy specifically asked for. Her signature Dragon Breath technique set half the street ablaze within seconds; she truly hasn’t lost her touch."
"What about the casualties?"
The lord asked, to which Shani quickly responded:
"That area is the market district where large quantities of grain are stored year-round. Other things may fall short, but the fire prevention measures are top-notch. The fire was quickly extinguished, with Psychic Mercenaries on standby at the market for rescue. Many were injured, but thankfully, no deaths."
"Hmm, it seems the order in the city under your rule is well maintained."
Lord Paryen praised, then asked:
"However, since the person wasn’t captured, what do you plan to do?"
"If Lady Lena thinks she can hide from the Thorn Clan’s search by concealing herself on a slave ship, she’s obviously underestimated us to be on par with those third-rate powers."
Shani showed a subtle smile and explained:
"Neither she nor her strange apprentice have left our sight from the beginning, mainly because the slave ship they boarded is heading to Transylvania, so my subordinates didn’t proceed with further harassment.
Since they’ve gone to Transylvania, Triss and Murphy can handle the rest."
"No!"
The lord shook his head seriously and said:
"Murphy and Triss have more important missions. Whether it’s the Black Disaster or other matters, their importance far exceeds persuading a fugitive Spiritual Overlord to join our little group. I don’t want them wasting time on such things.
You seem a bit too indolent, Shani. Do you think that in this struggle against the dusk, there should still be ’division of labor and cooperation’ among the clans?
You’re also a part of this small group, shouldn’t you be taking on more responsibilities proactively?"
"Uh..."
Duchess Shani looked at Lord Paryen before her.
She felt the lord seemed a bit different from before. Hey, did Murphy feed you some kind of mind-controlling potion? I’ve even handed him the bowl. Do I need to personally feed it to him?
But obviously, such things weren’t suitable to say in front of the lord; getting a beating wouldn’t be worth it.
"I will set out immediately."
Shani said softly:
"I will personally ’convince’ Lady Lena to mend her ways and bring a cooperative Dragon Flame magician to our partners. Please wait here for a moment."
"No need, I’ll accompany you."
The lord waved his hand and, with a touch of nostalgia, said:
"During the last Black Disaster, I had worked with Lady Lena. I must admit, she is a truly unique woman in every sense... She’s sure to get along well with Triss."
"Huh?"
Shani was truly surprised now.
Some very strange speculations even started to form in her mind. Lord, you weren’t like this before! You used to be so aloof; you’d never personally handle something that could be assigned to others.
Why the sudden change to such enthusiasm?
And why does it seem like you’re talking more now?
What happened to the cold, handsome man? Hey, it really must be Murphy who drugged you with some hellish potion, right?
But since the words from the millennium lord were spoken, reluctant as Shani might be, she had to make the necessary arrangements quickly. She couldn’t let the lord chase after them on a flying mount, could she? Now that they were on her own turf, she had to show the lord the strength of the Thorn Clan somehow.
So, ten minutes later, a luxury merchant ship requisitioned from a local merchant quietly set sail from the docks of Bernel City, pursuing the slave ship upstream along the river.
Four Thistle Psychics at the stern continually created vortexes to speed up the ship, while all the faction bigwigs that the Thorn Clan could muster were already assembled on board.
Just like when the lord arrived at Shadow Valley, where Triss brought the bigwigs of the Blood Vulture Clan to welcome him, you need not worry whether the lord requires such a display. If you don’t arrange it well, and the lord decides to hold grudges later, it’s solely your fault!
Such a shrewd vampire as Shani could never make this mistake.
The lord, too, was an experienced veteran.
He accepted the carefully prepared art gifts from those faction leaders and greeted each one with a few encouraging words. The Thorn bigwigs also presented themselves as obedient learners, assuring they would indeed send their best to support against the Black Disaster.
Thus, the host and guests were all pleased.
After these formalities were completed, Shani was summoned into the cabin. On the way to Bernel City, she had already discussed some of the questions regarding ancient memories with the lord, and now being called over must mean they were going to talk about the core issues.
The lord, admiring a gemstone egg artwork crafted by a Nord master, didn’t engage in small talk as he examined the craftsmanship of the gemstone egg and got straight to the point:
"Oksana left you the route to the ruins of Eden District in her memories, right? How many times did she visit that place? What mystery surrounds her death?"
"The route isn’t very clear, my lord."
With her hands folded over her belly, Shani stood before the lord and answered honestly:
