Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Daddy Doesn’t Know How to Chase Girls

Peach stood between the two, holding Sheila Yardley’s hand with her left and Caleb Grant’s hand with her right.

In the eyes of outsiders, they appeared to be such a happy family of three.

But the helplessness and bitterness within were only understood by each of them.

Sheila Yardley didn’t know if this would be the last time she was accompanying the child like this.

If she married Isaac Sheffield and had her own children, and if Caleb Grant found a new mother for Peach, then she probably wouldn’t have the chance to do this anymore.

Holding Peach’s hand, she involuntarily tightened her grip slightly.

As they entered the restaurant, Caleb Grant was ordering food when Sheila Yardley received a call from Isaac Sheffield.

Hesitant, she didn’t avoid it but subtly turned her body, answering the call quietly.

Isaac Sheffield: "Are you up?"

Sheila Yardley: "Yeah."

Isaac Sheffield: "I just finished a meeting, about to have lunch. Want to join me?"

Sheila Yardley pursed her lips and replied: "No, I’m with a friend."

Isaac Sheffield teasingly asked: "Is it a guy or a girl?"

Sheila Yardley didn’t answer directly, just said: "Alright, hurry up and eat after your meeting."

Isaac Sheffield: "Okay then, save some time for me tonight. Have fun this afternoon, I’ll come find you after work."

"Mhm."

Caleb Grant watched as she hung up the phone, wanting to say something but swallowed the words.

"Elaine, what do you want to eat?"

Sheila Yardley put away her phone, smiled at Peach, and said: "What do you want to eat, Peach?"

"I want something sweet, but Dad doesn’t like it." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Caleb Grant chuckled: "It’s okay, you order what you like, and Dad will order what he likes."

Peach smiled with crescent-shaped eyes, hugged the menu, and ran to sit beside Sheila Yardley, the two of them then leaned in to discuss what to eat.

Their smiles looked so alike.

Momentarily lost in thought, Caleb Grant picked up his phone, casually opening the camera function, capturing the scene on his phone.

Even sitting at the same table, barely a meter apart.

Sheila Yardley and Caleb Grant had almost no direct communication.

Caleb Grant didn’t initiate any conversation with her and didn’t disturb their rare mother-daughter time.

He also worried about losing this opportunity in the future.

Just as the food was served, before Sheila Yardley could take a few bites, a young girl approached the table: "Peach’s dad, you’re eating here too?"

Caleb Grant looked up and hadn’t had a chance to speak before Peach excitedly exclaimed: "Teacher Paige!"

Paige Greene patted Paige’s head and then looked at Sheila Yardley, sitting beside Paige, with a hint of curiosity, asking: "Is this Paige’s...?"

Caleb Grant and Sheila Yardley exchanged a glance, then Peach hurriedly introduced: "This is my Elaine."

Paige Greene smiled at Sheila Yardley and then said to Caleb Grant: "I’m here for lunch with my sister and her child. I’ll be heading back now, enjoy your meal."

Caleb Grant nodded, and after Paige Greene left, he casually introduced: "Peach’s kindergarten teacher."

"Oh." Responding briefly, Sheila Yardley picked up some food for Peach, and there wasn’t much interaction with Caleb Grant after that.

After the meal, he got up to pay the bill; sitting back down, he was silent for a long time before asking her: "... Do you have plans for this afternoon?"

Sheila Yardley paused, looked up at him, then at Peach sitting next to her.

Peach asked her, head tilted: "Sister, you can’t play with me this afternoon?"

Seeing the dimming look in Peach’s eyes, Sheila Yardley opened her mouth but couldn’t refuse.

Seeing this, Caleb Grant said: "I have to go to the store this afternoon, and Peach has taken a day off from her interest class. If you have time this afternoon, could you help me look after Peach?"

Sheila Yardley didn’t know if he really had things to do or was intentionally creating an opportunity for her and Peach to bond.

No matter what it was, she was grateful he was willing to let Peach be around her.

When she returned, she thought it would be enough to see her daughter from afar, never expecting him to be this understanding.

"Be obedient, Dad will come get you after work." Caleb Grant squatted and reminded Peach.

His gentle demeanor felt unfamiliar to Sheila Yardley.

Peach nodded obediently, then asked, somewhat puzzled: "Why isn’t Dad playing with us?"

"Dad has things to do at the store. Call Dad if you miss him."

"Okay then."

Caleb Grant smiled and kissed his daughter’s face softly: "Dad’s leaving now."

Peach waved her little hand, a bit reluctant: "Bye-bye, Dad."

Caleb Grant stood up, glanced at Sheila Yardley, and said lightly: "Sorry to trouble you."

Sheila Yardley pursed her lips without speaking, watched as he picked up his jacket from the chair and left.

Sheila Yardley fed Peach a bit more before leaving the restaurant, taking Peach to an indoor playground near the plaza.

"Elaine."

"Hm?"

"What do you think of my dad?"

Sheila Yardley was taken aback, looked down at Peach in confusion, then asked her back: "Do you think Dad is nice?"

Peach immediately nodded heavily, then began praises without stopping: "My dad is really great, tall, handsome, and earns a lot of money, but there’s just one thing not so good."

Sheila Yardley chuckled with interest, asking: "In what way?"

Peach furrowed her brows and replied: "Dad is silly."

"Dad can’t help you with your homework?"

Peach shook her head: "No."

Then seriously said: "Dad can’t win over girls."

As Peach said this, she stared at Sheila Yardley as if hinting something.

After speaking, Peach waved at Sheila Yardley: "Elaine, let me tell you a secret."

Sheila Yardley cooperatively crouched down, and Peach covered her little hand over Sheila Yardley’s ear, whispering: "My dad likes you."

Sheila Yardley froze entirely, seeing Peach pulling away, then looking at her: "Elaine I really like you too."

Seeing Sheila Yardley not saying anything, Peach cautiously asked her: "Would you be my mom?"

Sheila Yardley’s nose tingled, eyes couldn’t help but redden, she worked to curl her lips and asked Peach: "Do you want a mom?"

Peach nodded earnestly and said: "All the kids in kindergarten have moms, except me."

Sheila Yardley took a deep breath, looked up to hold back her tears: "What kind of mom do you want, Peach?"

Peach smiled, pointed at her: "Like you, Dad and I both like you. Dad’s shy and doesn’t dare tell you, but I know, he has your photo in his drawer. Please don’t dislike him, okay? He’s really gentle and will be good to you."

Seeing Peach full of expectations, Sheila Yardley was silent and didn’t nod in agreement with the child this time.
