My Mysterious Hidden Husband-Chapter 466: My Boyfriend Asked Me Out to Dinner
Upon hearing this, Caleb Grant paused for a moment, lowered his eyes in silence for two seconds before answering, "I’m not married."
Shannon Quinn pressed her lips together, looking at Peach walking hand in hand with Leo ahead of them. Although she didn’t ask directly, Caleb Grant noticed the confusion in her heart and said, "Her mother left after giving birth to her. She didn’t stay with me."
"I see... No wonder I’ve never seen her." Shannon Quinn pondered, feeling awkward to ask directly, and instead joked, "But Peach really looks like my little sister. When I saw my sister’s childhood photos at home that day, I almost thought it was Peach."
After saying this, she secretly observed Caleb Grant’s expression, only to see him smile faintly without explaining anything.
Landon Sutton freed himself from a few business partners trying to cozy up to him, came over, and put his arm around Shannon Quinn, asking, "Where did you go?"
"Went to the bathroom and then took a look backstage."
"Don’t run off again without telling me."
"You’re too sought after, how would I dare disturb you?"
Guests and audience members gradually took their seats, but it felt like something was missing without Aidan Lockwood’s presence.
It was his first time missing such an important occasion.
Shannon Quinn only heard from colleagues in the work group that Mr. Lockwood seemed to have gone abroad this time due to personal matters.
Shannon Quinn remembered that his parents seemed to live abroad, and she had heard him mention that his mother hadn’t been well lately. She wondered if it was related to this.
Although Aidan Lockwood wasn’t present at the event, the products for this press release had all been reviewed by him, so the quality of the new products was as high as ever. Both skilled designers and laypeople alike praised them.
Sheila Yardley stood on the stage introducing the works, smiling gracefully.
This was also a testament to her growth over the years.
Shannon Quinn also noticed that since Sheila Yardley took the stage, Caleb Grant’s gaze hadn’t left her.
His expression seemed calm, without much fluctuation, but this affectionate gaze further confirmed Shannon Quinn’s suspicions.
After Sheila Yardley stepped off the stage, Caleb Grant stood up: "I’m going to the restroom, please look after Peach for me."
Shannon Quinn nodded, with Leo to keep her company, Peach didn’t care about her dad leaving and didn’t ask to follow.
In the backstage dressing room, one could faintly hear the emcee’s voice and music from the event, but it was relatively quiet.
"Elaine, I’ll take care of things here, you go rest in the lounge and drink some hot water; it’ll help." a kind girl suggested.
Sheila Yardley smiled and shook her head: "It’s okay, it doesn’t hurt that much anymore."
"Don’t push yourself, your face is all pale. I’ve experienced cramps too, you should go rest. I’ll ask Lynn to bring you some warm water."
"No need, I’ll get it myself. I’ll leave things here to you."
"Alright, don’t worry."
Sheila Yardley turned around to leave but saw Caleb Grant standing at the door.
Today, he wore a light grey suit, looking much more refreshed.
She paused for a moment, then silently walked out, closing the door behind her, walked down the corridor a few steps, then stopped and softly asked the following Caleb Grant, "...do you need something?"
Caleb Grant lowered his eyes to look at her. Perhaps he had overheard their conversation and asked, "Are you not feeling well?"
"I’m fine."
Caleb Grant hesitated, pressed his lips together, and asked, "Why haven’t you been answering your phone recently?"
Sheila Yardley lowered her eyes, avoiding his gaze: "Didn’t think there was anything to say."
Caleb Grant: "It’s Peach who wants to find you."
Sheila Yardley took a deep breath and didn’t reply.
"I told her you went abroad on a business trip." He said, taking out a small box from his pocket and handing it to Sheila Yardley, "I told her you brought her a gift. Inside is a charm of a cartoon character she likes recently. Once you’re done, let’s grab a meal; you can give it to her, and it’ll make her happy."
Sheila Yardley looked down at the small gift box in his hand but didn’t reach to take it.
Seeing her hesitation, Caleb Grant hesitated and asked, "Is tonight inconvenient?"
"I have a dinner date with my boyfriend." she said.
Caleb Grant froze, his hand holding the box stiffened. This was when he realized why he couldn’t reach her these past few days.
He once thought there might still be a chance between them.
"I’m sorry." After a long pause, he only uttered these words and was slowly prepared to take back the box he had extended, but Sheila Yardley reached out and took it at this moment, softly saying, "Tomorrow at noon."
Even though she agreed, Caleb Grant did not show much happiness because he knew this time he might have lost the right to bother her again.
He always knew that the reason she met him was because she couldn’t let go of Peach, but he didn’t expect she’d have someone new.
She has the right to pursue her own life, and he wouldn’t imprison her in his cage as he did years ago.
He deeply understood that was the biggest mistake he ever made.
"Thank you."
Leaving these two words, he turned and left.
Sheila Yardley watched his lost yet still straight back, then looked down at the gift box in her hand.
She still remembered what he was like in the past, but she couldn’t deny that he was now a father who deeply loved his daughter.
She indeed loved Peach, but she couldn’t convince herself to live with Caleb Grant.
So she chose to embrace a new partner and tried to let go of everything from the past completely.
Her new boyfriend was a client of hers, and after working together a few times, he started pursuing her.
He was tall, sunny, handsome, and quite good to her.
After rejecting him twice, Sheila Yardley finally persuaded herself to try to embrace new feelings.
From that moment on, she was determined to cut ties with Caleb Grant, which is why she repeatedly hung up on his calls, even though she very much wanted to hear Peach’s voice over the phone.
Hands and feet cold, stomach in knots.
Sheila Yardley walked into the lounge, lay on the sofa wrapped in a blanket, but the pain didn’t ease much.
"Knock knock——" The door to the lounge was knocked, followed by a girl in a conference hall uniform poking her head in to quietly ask, "Are you Miss Sheila Yardley?"
Sheila Yardley sat up on the couch, nodded without understanding.
The girl stepped in and handed her a brown paper bag: "A gentleman asked me to bring this to you."
Sheila Yardley took the bag, puzzled, and glanced inside. There were a few warming patches and a cup of hot sugar water.
"...Was he wearing a grey suit?"
"Yes, light grey."
"...Alright, thank you. Sorry for the trouble."
Sheila Yardley tore open a warming patch and placed it on her lower abdomen over a thin base layer, drinking the perfectly warm sugar water from the cup.
She felt that this was not the Caleb Grant she knew.
