Three days after the incident surrounding Angela’s murder, Jason was left deeply depressed, all while trying to understand who committed the act and for what reason. He had no unpaid debts with anyone that would justify the death of a member of his family. If anything, he was entirely clean of any dirty dealings, so the question remained unanswered.
In addition, the police set out to search for Claire, who was placed as the primary suspect since the crime occurred in the house under her management. However, they had not managed to find any trace of her. Although no evidence at the scene confirmed that she was responsible, suspicion still lingered. Even so, Jason found himself unable to believe that it could be her.
Two points supported that belief. First, Claire was unaware that he had any family members, as he had never mentioned them or given any indication of their existence. Second, no one apart from him and Claire knew about the villa. Even if there was a possibility that she had discovered his family and somehow lured Angela there, that idea still felt impossible.
Nothing added up. There was no clear motive behind the crime, and there was no reason for Angela to be targeted. She was not even supposed to be in the country yet, having claimed she would return later in the week, so how any of this had come to pass remained a mystery.
Jason sat in the parlour of the villa with his hands folded together in thought. Given the circumstances, he barely ate anything, and the image of her corpse replayed vividly in his mind, feeding his rage and steadily eroding his mental stability. His eyes were bloodshot, and every thought that crossed his mind centred on revenge, though he had no idea who deserved it.
"Fuck!"
One thing also remained unresolved. Jason had yet to inform the rest of the family, and he had requested that the news be kept away from the media so that it would not reach them. After that, he postponed every meeting he had until further notice, cut himself off from the outside world, and spent his hours inside the villa without stepping beyond its grounds.
He used the remainder of the day to strategise, and by the following morning he had devised numerous countermeasures to prevent such an incident from happening again. To be honest, he did not want anyone in the family to discover what had happened to Angela and was prepared to do whatever it took to keep it hidden from them, starting now. Jason switched on his phone, and an overwhelming number of messages flooded in instantly. Many were from Layla, who had been trying to reach him since Monday night and was clearly worried, while others came from his family. Even Regina had been attempting to contact him.
She was a strange kid, and he suspected she was probably going to ask him for money, since he sent her between ten and twenty thousand dollars every month. Although he knew that was a considerable amount for a teenage girl as an allowance, he did not mind and trusted her ability to manage herself.
Jason walked over to the glass wall facing the street and watched every movement with careful attention. There was a psychological theory about murderers, suggesting that they often returned to the crime scene two or three days after committing the act, either to remove any evidence the police might have missed or to finish something left undone. Because of that, he kept a vigilant eye outside. Even so, despite the villa having security cameras installed, they had been tampered with at the time of the crime and had recorded nothing of value.
The young man began responding to the missed calls and messages, starting with Layla, who seemed the most distressed. After reassuring her that he was fine, he contacted his family to confirm that they were all safe. Once that was done, he began reaching out to every influential figure he had connections with. Melissa and Daniel were relieved to hear that he was unharmed, though they remained unaware of what had actually taken place.
However, he was not ready to discuss any of that with them. For now, Jason decided to request top level security and additional measures for all his family members, including covert guards watching from a distance and specialised single agents assigned to investigate the crime alongside the police. He was determined to uncover the truth.
"Yes, Ella. I would like to request every form of special assistance available. I need a full deployment of elite guards. I will send you the list of individuals who require protection, along with their details. I apologise for troubling you so early in the morning," Jason said calmly over the phone, his face showing no emotion.
Ella sighed, then replied in a relaxed tone.
"Alright. I will not ask why you are suddenly requesting all of this, but I promise to ensure the safety of everyone you designate. Do you need a specialist assigned to you as well?"
Jason paused briefly.
"...Yes. And if possible, I want all guards to be highly skilled in combat and the use of weapons."
"Oh? I believe I have the right unit for that. I will make the arrangements."
"Thank you. I will be sure to repay you."
"Yeah, yeah. Bye, cutie."
The call ended abruptly. At the same time, something began to shift in Jason’s eyes. They darkened noticeably, carrying the restrained threat of a man on the verge of losing control.
He trusted that Ella would hire the very best for whatever he requested. She had access to all of that, after all. Ella Morgan was among the Milfs he had conquered, and she was also the heir to her father’s arms and defence company, one of the top ten worldwide, with connections to elite mercenaries, assassins, special task agents, and many other high level combatants.
The reason he was going to such extremes to protect everyone he cared about was simple. Jason knew the killer was still out there, and this did not feel like the work of a lone individual. There was likely a larger player involved. One carefully executed murder with a spotless scene could not confirm that on its own, but the same instinct that had driven him to the villa was warning him again.
This time, he would respond in kind. Jason sent Ella the list of people he wanted protected, along with their details. Within four hours, she called back to inform him that deployment had begun. Elite combatants trained across multiple disciplines, drawn from different parts of the world, were already en route to the country, while those already present had been mobilised. At the same time, the investigation had officially started.
"That was fast..."
As he considered what to do next, his thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the sound of the villa’s doorbell. His eyes widened as his body tensed, instinctively raising his guard.
"Don’t tell me..."
