My Martial Spirit is Nanobot-Chapter 408 Recruitment
Huahua City, main market,
’Flyers? The sect here advertises like this to recruit disciples?’
Lin Lee, standing beside a stall, glanced at the direction of a large cloth piece hanging on the wall; there is the recruitment ad with the location on it.
"Little brother, are you also interested in this sect recruitment? I should advise you to not participate in it."
Suddenly the stall owner’s voice sounded in his ear, filled with disappointment. Lin Lee glanced at him and asked with furrowed brows,
"Why is that?"
The stall owner sighed, shaking his head, and replied,
"We ordinary civilians have no luck with immortality, although we pursue and desire it the most. Also, this recruitment is just a waste of your hard-earned wealth; still, thousands of people like you participate in it, but only two or three among them are eligible to join the sect. The rest return to their homes, losing everything, just like the gambling."
Lin Lee raised his brow hearing his explanation, and then a smile appeared on his face. He replied,
"The world is like this... If you don’t hope for something and fear the consequences, then you won’t be able to do anything in your life. A hundred low-level spirit stones are nothing compared to the immortality, lifelong settlement, and prestige that the lowest sect disciple gains. That’s why everyone gambles on it."
After speaking, Lin Lee turned around and walked toward the direction of the sect recruitment area described in the advertisement.
"Lifelong settlement and prestige. So that’s how it is?" The stall owner was standing in a daze and repeated the words spoken by Lin Lee just now.
After a while,
Lin Lee appeared in the location and stopped behind a long line of more than fifty young people; some are the same age as him, while others are a little older.
"Low-grade single root, fail."
"Low-grade dual root, fail."
"Low-grade single root, fail."
One by one the participants moved forward and paid the hundred spirit stone fee; after that, they put their hands on the glass ball.
’The dim shine of different colors represents the low-level root of the corresponding attribute. For example, dim blue light is water, while bluish-green light represents the dual attribute of water and wood. Also, hundreds of participants have already been tested by now, yet no one has medium- or high-level roots. Probably high-level roots are very rare.’
Lin Lee thought to himself as he moved forward in line while observing the recruitment procedure.
"Medium grade, single root. You passed."
Instantly a passing announcement sounded in everyone’s ears; everyone glanced in the direction of the participant. It was a little girl of fifteen or sixteen years of age with dark green hair hanging behind her, wearing a dark green robe.
’Well, medium wood grade root, finally someone passed. I thought everyone would go home except me.’
Lin Lee thought to himself, looking at the glass ball flickering with a little brighter green light as compared to low-grade dim,
"Thank you."
While the little girl who passed thanked with an excited and victorious expression and then passed by the recruiter, she started climbing the stairs leading toward the sect entrance.
’She completely ignored everyone else behind and ran to embrace the future in front of her; this is the true nature of heaven and earth.’
Lin Lee thought to himself, and a light smile appeared on his face.
"Damn, such a little girl has medium roots, and there is no one among men; it’s a disgrace. I will do my best."
Suddenly one of the tall boys with a burly physique spoke passionately with a firm expression on his face.
Other participants glanced at him but didn’t say anything; looking at his size, all of them turned their gazes away the next moment.
Soon it was the burly boy’s turn; he walked forward confidently.
"Put your hand on the root testing orb." The old recruiter sitting in front of him instructed expressionlessly,
The boy nodded and put his large hand on the glass, almost covering it; the next moment a brown color rendered the half orb inside.
"Medium grade, single root. You passed. Go reach the sect entrance. The disciple there will guide you to the outer sect."
The old recruiter spoke with a smile and then waved his hand; the burly boy nodded and bypassed him, climbing the stairs toward the sect entrance.
’Only middle grade. It’s been a hundred years, and the sect hasn’t recruited a disciple with high-grade roots; the sect master is getting impatient.’
The old man thought, sighing in his heart, and then he gestured toward the participants expressionlessly.
"Come forward."
Once again the failed announcement resounded through the recruitment area.
Finally it was Lin Lee’s turn; he stepped forward and patted the ord calmly, following the old man’s instructions.
The next moment a current passed through his body and then flickered through his spine, then returned to the glass orb.
Slowly a dark greenish color mixed with dim red rendered the half orb; a surprise flashed through the old man’s face, and he glanced in the direction of Lin Lee and spoke.
"You passed, middle-grade mix of wood poison root and low-grade fire root. You should focus on wood-related skills and exercises. Now go and climb the stairs. The sect disciple their will guide you to the outer sect."
Lin Lee nodded and replied calmly, "Thank you."
After speaking, he bypassed the old man and then started climbing the stairs expressionlessly.
After a while,
Lin Lee raised her brow, looking at the stairs rotating around the whole mountain, and some stairs were even hidden in the cloud.
’So this is the second test of strength, stamina, self-preservation, and will.’
He thought to himself, and then a smile appeared on his face, and he muttered,
"Climbing them is simple for my mid-foundation-building realm."
He walked forward calmly and steadily while observing the surrounding scenery in the mountain.
As the time passed, he encountered a familiar figure sitting on the stairs far ahead; it was the same little girl who passed the test first among the participants.
Upon seeing him reaching her, a surprise flashed through her eyes, and then she smiled and commented,
"You are really strong; you passed the test in third place, but you are also going to surpass me."
Lin Lee replied calmly, looking at her, "You can descend the mountain and go home if you don’t want to climb it."
After speaking, he walked forward, ignoring her.
Instantly a surprise flashed through her eyes, and then her expression became angry and confident.
She stood up and then spoke loudly, "I wanted to give up and descend the mountain, but now I won’t. I will definitely climb these stairs and show you."
She stomps her feet angrily and then climbs forward, following him at a fast pace.
Lin Lee’s mouth curved a little, and then he sped up his pace a little; soon, under his constant pressure, both of them saw the entrance.
"There it is, we have reached it... I hope you don’t give up now. Anyway, even if you reach the entrance. You are in third place."
Lin Lee turned around and spoke playfully, looking at her disheveled and sweaty appearance, and then he walked forward toward the gate.
The little girl huffed angrily and then turned her head away, taking deep breaths.
’Damn brat, he is cocky... I will teach him a lesson. But I have to admit, he deliberately did that in order to help me.’
She thought to herself and then glanced at Lin Lee’s back; seeing him walking through the entrance, she hurriedly climbed the stairs and passed through the entrance.
"There is a female disciple this year; it’s really a surprise. Almost all the female participants gave up halfway."
Suddenly a voice sounded in her mind, and she raised her head and noticed two boys wearing blue disciple robes with armbands of their names standing beside the bridge; they were looking at her in surprise.
Then she glanced in the direction of Lin Lee standing beside the bridge.
She then turned her gaze away and asked, looking at the outer disciples curiously,
"Big Brother Ling, where is the outer sect? The elder below said that you will guide us to the outer sect."
The outer disciple was surprised to hear his name from her mouth. ’This little girl is observant.’
He thought and then pointed at Lin Lee and spoke.
"He asked me to wait for you. Now follow me; I will take you both to the outer sect."
The girl nodded and trotted forward, following the outer disciple; while they passed the bridge, she glanced at Lin Lee beside him and spoke.
"Thank you for your help before. If you didn’t push me, then I would have given up halfway."
After speaking, she thought of something and added, "I am Hua Lan from Huahua City."
Lin Lee’s footsteps halted, and a surprise flashed through his eyes.
’It can’t be a coincidence, can it?’
He thought to himself, looking at the curious expression on her beautiful face, and then he replied with a calm smile while resuming his steps.
"I am Lin Lee from Golden City."
Hua Lan nodded with a light smile, and then her expression returned to usual, and she started observing the surroundings with a curious expression.
