My Lust System: I Inherited The Sin Of Lust And His Three Wives-Chapter 52: Playing God
Walking through the streets in the dead of night, Damian left behind a trail of purple flames as he moved. His entire body was engulfed in illusory violet fire, rendering both him and Ruby invisible to the people and the few cars that sped past them by mere inches. They walked between moving vehicles and along the busy street as if they were ghosts drifting through another world, unnoticed and untouched by everyone around them.
Ruby, on the other hand, ensured the isolation barrier followed them closely. Transparent barrier plates continued to materialize ahead of their path as they walked, quietly forming and dissolving in perfect rhythm with their steps. Damian’s method of using his powers left her genuinely surprised. Even though his approach was wasteful in terms of energy, it was undeniably effective, and she could not help but feel proud of her husband’s natural talent.
"So how do you plan to gain the upper hand in court?" Ruby asked.
Damian had already shared a brief version of everything that was happening, so she possessed a reasonable understanding of the situation.
"Intimidation with a whole lot of manipulation and a sprinkle of motherly love."
Damian spoke as he came to a halt in front of a modest apartment building. He pulled out a piece of paper where he had written Breezy 180’s address. From the information he had gathered, the man lived there with his mother. The lights in the building were all turned off, so he assumed the woman was already asleep.
’That’s why I came here this late in the first place.’ He reminded himself.
Damian was about to move when Ruby suddenly placed a hand on his shoulder and pointed toward a normal looking black sedan tucked away at the corner of the street. The windows were tinted, making it impossible for him to see what was inside.
"What am I supposed to see here?" he asked.
"Police officers. They are watching the building. They probably suspect your client may try to keep their suspect quiet by using his mother." Ruby speculated, leaving Damian stunned.
’She can see through tinted windows? That’s actually...’
Amongst his wives, she had always been the brute and aggressive member of the group, so he had assumed she would not be particularly sharp intellectually. It seemed he had greatly underestimated her.
"I see..." Damian mumbled before returning his attention to the building in front of him.
"We will take the window." Damian shrugged and walked around the building, with Ruby following closely behind.
They effortlessly slipped through an open window, and Damian took a moment to observe the living room. It was not what he would have expected from the home of a gangster’s family. The place was neat and orderly, and numerous pictures of Breezy with his parents were hung all over the room. The images told the story of a family that shared a deep and genuine bond.
"She is quite religious," Ruby said while staring at the wooden carving of the cross on the wall.
This was the third one she had noticed so far.
"Actually, that’s a good thing." Damian’s mind began racing.
They quietly made their way upstairs, checking each room they passed. Every door they opened revealed empty spaces until they reached the final room. Damian and Ruby stepped inside, their eyes settling on the lone figure sleeping peacefully on the bed.
It was an elderly woman in her early fifties, lightly snoring beneath the sheets. Damian approached the bedside and stood over her, his burning violet eyes fixed on the sleeping lady.
[Veil of the Nine-Tailed Reverie I Skill Activated]
Without hesitation, he activated the skill. His eyes instantly turned grey as the ability took hold. He remained perfectly still, frozen like a statue while the spell worked through the fragile corridors of her mind, leaving Ruby to guard his vulnerable body.
Mama Breezy stood across the road with a cardboard sign held firmly in her hands. The words "Welcome Home" were boldly written across it, just like the signs carried by the other people standing around her. She did not understand why she was there, but many others surrounded her, their faces strangely blurred and impossible to recognize. All of them held cardboard signs as well, likely waiting to welcome released inmates from the Chicago county jail.
Soon the sound of heavy wheels rolling echoed through the air as the gates slowly slid apart. Yet when the moment arrived for the inmates to step out, only one person emerged from the prison entrance. It was her son, Breezy.
"Thomas!" she cried, calling out his real name while waving her sign frantically in the air.
But at that moment, everyone standing around her suddenly lowered their signs and raised their guns. Her heart skipped violently in her chest. Before she could even react, gunfire erupted all around her. The deafening cracks of bullets rang through the air as she rushed forward in a desperate attempt to reach her son. She heard him cry out in shock, shielding his face with both hands as the bullets raced toward him.
Then it happened. Time itself seemed to come to a complete halt. The world drained of color, turning into a bleak canvas of black and white. A brilliant light suddenly appeared within the darkness like a guiding beacon, shining so intensely that Mama Breezy had to shield her face with both hands. Through the narrow gaps between her fingers, she could barely make out the silhouette of a man with magnificent wings.
"Do not be afraid, for I come to protect, not to destroy!"
The world trembled beneath the thunderous yet calm voice. She had countless questions rising in her heart, but she was given no opportunity to speak as the voice continued with firm authority.
"Sometimes, fortune comes in the form of misfortune. The blood Thomas spilled on 14th March cries for justice. But that justice will save him from the war that will claim the lives of his associates."
Buzz!
Mama Breezy froze at those words. She opened her mouth to respond, but once again the voice cut her off, repeating the same message with unwavering certainty.
"Sometimes, fortune comes in the form of misfortune. The blood Thomas spilled on 14th March cries for justice. But that justice will save him from the war that will claim the lives of his associates."
Then it was gone.
Huff!
Mama Breezy suddenly sat upright in her bed. Sweat drenched her face as she gasped for breath, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Her eyes darted around the room, but it was completely empty. Confused murmurs slipped from her lips as she tried to process what had just happened. Seconds later, she quickly fell to her knees beside the bed and began to pray fervently, completely unaware that Damian and Ruby stood quietly in a corner of the room, observing her in silence.
’Have her pin the murder on her son. That’s your plan?’ Ruby’s voice echoed inside his mind like a clear bell.
’Just one part of it. We have to do this every night for at least a week, sending new but consistent messages until she breaks. Eventually she will come to me herself and offer to be a witness against her son. It is not solid evidence, but it will be enough to rattle whatever diabolical plan these people have been cooking up.’ Damian responded silently, his cold and emotionless eyes fixed on Mama Breezy.
