Chapter 703: Battle with Barbarossa - Part 1

Upon hearing his words, Miranda fell silent for a moment before finally letting out a long sigh.

"You’re right, Master. It seems the Dwarf King didn’t kill him back then," she said in a low, gloomy voice.

Leon chuckled softly and shook his head. Of all the possibilities, that one made the most sense—it explained why Barbarossa was still alive.

The man was supposed to have died seven thousand years ago. And yet, here he was. What intrigued Leon the most was how he had managed to survive for so long.

The Dragon Ancestor had to enter a deep slumber to heal his wounds, while the First Elder relied on some unknown technique.

But Barbarossa?

How had he endured the passing of millennia? This was something worth digging into. If there was a method for longevity, perhaps Leon could use it for himself.

Now that would be interesting, wouldn’t it?

Snapping out of his thoughts, Leon narrowed his purple eyes at Barbarossa and asked coldly, "So, you want to awaken the Hydra? You really plan to unleash chaos upon this world again?"

Barbarossa chuckled without bothering to deny it. "Yes. I want chaos. I want to see this world crumble again—just like before."

A wide grin spread across his face as he shot Leon a playful glance. "In doing so, I’ll be avenging the Evil God—punishing the creatures who sealed it away seven thousand years ago! Hahaha!"

Seeing his madness, Leon’s expression darkened. At first, he had hoped to bring Barbarossa to his senses and stop his insane plan.

But it was pointless now. Violence was the only option left.

"Huh..." He let out a soft sigh as he summoned the power of chaos within him. The Eye of Chaos flared in his right eye, and a black sword—forged from that very power—formed in his hand.

"In that case, I have no other choice. Now, only two outcomes remain—either you die... or I do."

As soon as he finished speaking, Leon shot toward Barbarossa, his sword raised high.

*Bang!*

A loud crash echoed as their weapons collided—Barbarossa had managed to block the strike with a massive hammer in his hand.

Leon was caught off guard, but he didn’t hesitate. He twisted his body and delivered a powerful kick to Barbarossa’s stomach.

*Bam!*

Barbarossa was sent flying, crashing into a massive pillar with a thunderous boom.

"Tsk! His body’s tough. Is he wearing some kind of special armor?" Leon muttered, gently rotating his numb leg.

Sure enough, a thin layer of golden armor—previously hidden beneath Barbarossa’s clothes—had absorbed the blow.

At first, Leon thought it was just ordinary armor—something he could break with a single punch or kick. But he was wrong.

It was a special armor, likely forged from high-grade materials like adamantine or perhaps even orichalcum.

His gaze shifted to the large egg behind him. Chaos energy began to surge in his left hand as he prepared to destroy it.

But before he could strike, a thunderous voice rang out behind him.

"Don’t you dare touch it!"

Startled, Leon immediately activated the Eye of Chaos and swapped places with a medium-sized rock in the distance.

*Boom!*

A devastating blow obliterated the spot where Leon had just stood. The sheer force of Barbarossa’s massive hammer strike was terrifying.

Had Leon not reacted in time, he would’ve been reduced to a pulp.

Their eyes locked for a split second before both vanished from their positions.

*Boom!*

The impact of their clash sent shockwaves rippling in all directions.

Leon twisted mid-air and delivered a fierce kick to Barbarossa’s chest.

Barbarossa staggered back but quickly regained his balance and charged forward, swinging his hammer in a wide arc.

Reading the movement, Leon ducked low, narrowly evading the strike. In one swift motion, he spun and swept his legs at Barbarossa’s, aiming to knock him off balance.

"Damn it!" Barbarossa shouted, caught off guard as his balance faltered.

Before he could recover, Leon twisted mid-air and slammed a powerful strike directly into his face.

*Whoosh... Boom!*

Barbarossa was sent flying, crashing into the hall’s wall with enough force to shatter it. freewebnøvel.coɱ

A massive hole formed in the stone, and it was unclear whether Barbarossa had survived the blow.

Wasting no time, Leon immediately gathered his chaos power and touched the egg.

*Buzz!*

Chaos power flowed from his body, enveloping the surface of the egg. A strong throb was suddenly felt as it began to eat away at it from within.

"This Hydra is so powerful... Not even the power of chaos can instantly annihilate it," he muttered seriously.

Without hesitation, he increased the intensity of his chaos power. The egg’s throbbing grew louder, wilder by the second.

*Crack...*

A small crack appeared on the right side of the shell. It was barely noticeable at first but slowly began to widen.

A joyful smile appeared on Leon’s face as he whispered, "It worked! With this—"

Before he could finish his sentence, the sound of a powerful explosion rang out from behind him, accompanied by a wave of dark energy roaring violently.

*Boom!*

A violent gust ripped through the area, slamming into Leon’s unprepared body.

He was thrown into the air but quickly twisted mid-flight, regaining his balance.

As he looked toward the source of the explosion, his eyes widened in disbelief.

"Dark power? How is that possible?" he gasped in horror.

But before the shock could fully take hold, Miranda’s gentle voice echoed in his mind.

"You shouldn’t be surprised, Master. For those who seek refuge in the Evil God, dark power is a granted gift. It’s no different from how elves become dark elves. The only difference is that the Dark Elves didn’t choose to serve the Evil God—they were transformed after accidentally drinking water tainted by dark energy."

"Meanwhile, those who willingly devote themselves to the Evil God gain far greater power. That darkness can multiply their strength many times over."

She paused briefly, letting out a quiet sigh before continuing, "That’s why most of those who swore allegiance to the Evil God were outcasts—those discarded from the battlefield, the weak who felt unwanted. Barbarossa was one of them. He always envied his brother for being chosen as the Dwarf King."

Leon fell silent for a moment, then finally let out a long sigh.

"I see," he said softly, nodding.

Miranda’s explanation made sense. It was always the helpless—those who lived in the shadows of others—who were the easiest to corrupt.

Well, Leon had no right to judge their choices. From birth, he had stood above many—at a peak few could ever hope to reach.

Even so, the weak who surrendered to their circumstances were not worthy of pity.

They chose to side with the Evil God, and from that moment on, they had to be ready to face the consequences.

"Fated One..."

Barbarossa’s cold voice rang out from ahead.

Leon glanced at him—and was taken aback by the drastic transformation.

The dwarf he had seen moments ago was gone. In his place stood a monstrous figure, dark power swirling around him, his right eye glowing blood red.

The sight was horrifying enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine.

Leon slowly descended to the ground and raised his sword, pointing it forward.

With a loud, defiant voice, he shouted, "Come, then! Show me the strength of a traitor who needs dark power just to stand taller!"
