Chapter 292: Chapter 290: Forensic Specialist Su Joins the Case

His good mood vanished after Comrade Lao Su returned. It’s a classic case of trouble coming out of nowhere.

If it weren’t for Lao Su and my brother’s fondness for fishing in wild rivers, they wouldn’t have discovered the corpse. If they hadn’t, they wouldn’t have had to notify Li Zijun, and he wouldn’t have had to come to this heart-wrenching place.

Who did he offend? He just wanted to take a vacation. What’s wrong with that?

At this moment, Su Qing was driving his dad’s little car on the road to the countryside, with the real-time navigation on his phone making it very convenient. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Actually, the location wasn’t hard to find. It was downstream from where he accompanied the old man fishing with Dahuang last time.

This is a wild river. Walking along the wild river, one could even come across some villages. However, the place where Lao Su and Lao Li went fishing was between mountain streams, where the river narrows upstream and then widens suddenly before narrowing again at the mountain stream’s other end.

This kind of terrain, narrow at both ends and wide in the middle, naturally forms a pond shape here. The river flows very slowly, but the water level isn’t shallow.

If it weren’t for an obsessed fishing enthusiast like Lao Su, ordinary people wouldn’t come here. After all, the place is remote, with no villages or stores nearby, and even cars can’t go all the way. The latter part has to be reached on foot.

Fortunately, he wasn’t traveling during peak hours, so after a little over an hour, he arrived at the place where he had fished with Comrade Lao Su before.

From afar, he saw police cars lined up on the roadside, and Li Zijun, in plain clothes, was standing by the road with her father, Li Maoquan.

"Dad, just go back. Don’t worry, there are so many colleagues around; what could possibly happen? Besides, when you called me, did you even think your daughter might be scared?" Li Zijun said helplessly.

She was off this afternoon, but a call from her dad forced her into overtime.

Especially after seeing the floating corpse in the water through a video, she immediately realized the seriousness of the situation, promptly notified the bureau, and rushed over.

Now her dad was nagging, making a fool of himself in front of her colleagues.

"You silly girl, I’m just worried about you. Damn it, now the more I think about it, the more queasy I feel. Maybe you should apply to transfer to another department!" Li Maoquan said.

He rarely inquired deeply into his daughter’s work, always trusting the saying that each generation has its blessings. His children chose their paths, and as a parent, all he should do is support them. But today, seeing the corpse that scared both him and Lao Su, and his daughter casually messing with it wearing gloves, truly shocked his worldview.

Is this really my daughter? Did I really father a daughter? Is my daughter usually working like this?

Countless questions flooded his mind. He used to think that although his daughter was a detective, she was the kind seen in TV series, discussing plans in an office. He never expected she worked on the front lines.

Even if he called his daughter first today, he thought she’d probably just make an appearance while others did the actual work. Reality hit him hard, though.

This couldn’t help but make the old man feel reluctant. Such work shouldn’t be done by his delicate daughter.

Little did he know that his delicate daughter had just sent an adult man to the hospital a few days ago.

"Dad, stop worrying. Your daughter always handles cases this way!" Li Zijun rolled her eyes at her dad, meaning that when the criminal investigation team is handling a case, irrelevant people should stay back.

Li Maoquan clearly wanted to say more, but just then, a familiar car arrived. Both of them immediately recognized it as Su Qing’s dad’s car.

"Uncle Li, you’re still here!" Su Qing greeted as he got out of the car, swallowing the word "brother" that was on the tip of his tongue, aware that saying it might earn him a mixed rebuke from both families.

"Ah, it’s Xiao Qing. Why are you here?" Li Maoquan asked.

"Sister Jun asked me to come. I have a temporary position at the police bureau, so I need to take part in some criminal case investigations," Su Qing said blandly, glancing at Li Zijun beside him as he spoke.

"You’re here?" Li Zijun greeted him upon seeing his gaze.

Su Qing nodded and grunted a response.

Hearing that he was also here to investigate the case, Li Maoquan was a bit surprised but still smiled and said:

"Is that so? Well, since you’re here, I can rest easy. Take care of your sister. I’ll head back now!"

"Don’t worry, Uncle, there are so many people here. Nothing will happen!"

Knowing very well that he couldn’t dissuade or interfere with his daughter’s work, Li Maoquan sighed in resignation, patting Su Qing’s shoulder before leaving, with a look that seemed to say, Qing, I trust you with your sister. Make sure she comes back safely!

The old man then left slowly, looking back every few steps.

Their eye contact gave Li Zijun goosebumps: "Hey, hey, enough already, okay? My dad doesn’t get it, but you’re young. You should know better! Besides, it’s not like I’m here alone this time. What’s the fuss about, you two drama queens!

What are you looking at? Let’s go!"

Hearing this, Su Qing snapped back to reality and quickly caught up: "Coming, coming, don’t rush!"
