My Life with Narration-Chapter 216 - 215: Xiao Su, What Do You Think?
In an interrogation room in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Public Security Bureau, Lin Chengcai, Li Zijun, Yan Lie, and two other officers Su Qing didn't recognize were questioning someone.
Opposite them sat a young, beautiful girl who was sobbing, accompanied by an older woman trying to comfort her.
"The day before yesterday, I just went to the bar for a drink. When I woke up, I found myself at home. And... and I could clearly feel discomfort in my lower body, and I wasn't wearing clothes. I... I have a boyfriend, you know. I'm getting married next month, and now he knows and says he won't marry me. I..." At this point, the girl's sobbing turned into wailing.
"Did you see anyone suspicious that day?" Li Zijun asked while handing her a tissue.
The girl shook her head.
"Then why didn't you come yesterday?" Li Zijun continued to ask.
"I was scared!"
Everyone: ...
It was obvious that the girl had been assaulted and came here to report it.
But Lin Chengcai, who was watching from the side, seemed to be lost in thought as he looked at the girl.
Just then, the door to the interrogation room opened, and Du Qiang walked in, intimately wrapping his arm around Su Qing's neck. He pushed him forward and said:
"Captain Lin, Su Qing is here, just as you expected, forcibly brought over!"
As he spoke, Du Qiang seemed quite proud of himself.
At this moment, Su Qing really wanted to turn around and smack this oaf, looking so smug. Did he also want to put his hands on his hips?
But considering his own fighting abilities, he thought better of it. He couldn't win, couldn't beat them!
As the two entered, everyone in the room turned their gaze toward him, making him feel somewhat uneasy.
"Captain Lin... what's going on here?" Su Qing asked.
Under the eaves, one must lower their head. Although he was just a network security promotion consultant, working in the police station naturally meant he had to follow orders.
"It's nothing, come and sit. Xiao Li, you continue!" Lin Chengcai said in a deep voice.
Su Qing could only sit next to Old Lin helplessly, while Du Qiang sat on his other side, as if afraid he would shrink away.
Although he didn't know what was happening, he still had to listen. It was obvious that Lin Chengcai wanted him here to hear the case.
Li Zijun resumed her questioning.
"Where do you live now? Does your apartment complex have surveillance? Have you offended anyone recently?" and a series of other questions followed.
The girl answered everything she knew truthfully, but most of the important clues remained unknown.
Meanwhile, Lin Chengcai took the opportunity to brief him on the parts he missed, helping him understand the course of the case.
Now that Su Qing was also an internal member of the police station, even though he was a special hire and not directly involved with criminal investigations, this didn't prevent them from revealing some case details to him.
Without this status, even if Lin Chengcai wanted to involve him, it wouldn't be possible. After all, information on many criminal cases is confidential and isn't casually disclosed to outsiders.
Fortunately, now that Su Qing was considered one of them, he could get involved, which was why Lin Chengcai brought him in.
"Who accompanied you to the bar the day before yesterday?"
The girl mentioned several names, both male and female, quite a few people.
"Yesterday I called my friends, and someone said it was Huang Zhiming who took me home in the end. I..." The girl trailed off, looking pitiful.
[Fang Wen, female, 26, unemployed, previously worked as an escort, with a very unrestrained lifestyle, and no one actually raped her. She only wanted to get some money from Huang Zhiming. For this, she even colluded with friends to plant Huang Zhiming's semen on her bed, and her boyfriend was even involved.]
Listening to the narration in his head, Su Qing couldn't help but widen his eyes at the woman in front of him, so pitiful with tears rolling down her face. Truly a talent, able to cry on cue, a born actor, right?
As the woman spoke, Li Zijun jotted down the information in her notebook, finally obtaining the contact details of the people who went to the bar with her that night, listing it just in case, and then told her to go home and wait for further news, until the semen test results from the bedsheet come out.
After the two left, everyone sat down, exchanged glances, and didn't say a word.
Regarding this, Su Qing was somewhat puzzled. Without the narrative voice in his head, it looked like a simple rape case, so why so many people, so serious?
"Old Yan, what do you think?" Lin Chengcai asked.
"I think it fits, but there's too little evidence, and further investigation is needed to confirm. If it's really determined, it could be a big case!"
Another detective, one of the two Su Qing didn't recognize, a man in his early thirties, said in a deep voice: "I think it extremely resembles the work of one person, given the many similarities. The victims are all young single women, living in old neighborhoods without surveillance. The crime area can be roughly narrowed down to near the eastern suburbs."
"I agree with Brother Zhao's view. If all these are the work of one person, then the nature of this will be quite different," another slightly younger man said.
Listening from the side, Su Qing was at a loss. However, he was now quite clear about the case.
That said, he still didn't have evidence, and there were many details he couldn't reveal. After all, how could a stranger know so much detail, unless they're the perpetrator or an accomplice?
"What's the situation?" He took the chance to whisper to Du Qiang while everyone was expressing their views.
They summoned me here, surely it wouldn't be just to say, "Sorry, the case details are confidential, can't be disclosed," right?
Fortunately, Du Qiang was not a newcomer and understood why his mentor and Lin Chengcai brought Su Qing in, especially for this case, so he didn't hide anything.
"Brother, to be honest, in less than half a month, four rape cases have been reported to our bureau, all targeting young single women. The crime locations are relatively concentrated, and... a girl was even killed, she was only 22 years old. Counting this, it would be the fifth case, so of course, we have to take it seriously," Du Qiang whispered back.
Hearing this, Su Qing's eyes widened. So this was a serial rape case, with a homicide involved, no wonder so many people were here. If this is confirmed, it really will be a major case.
From another angle, for girls who experience such incidents, it's not every victim who has the courage to report it. A significant number might choose to stay silent, suggesting there might be even more victims.
"Xiao Su, what do you think?" Lin Chengcai suddenly asked.
Su Qing was taken aback: "Ah?"
"Ah? What do you mean 'Ah.' Xiao Du just explained it to you, and you saw the girl just now. Any thoughts?" Lin Chengcai sternly asked back.
The tone was quite harsh, not at all like when he visited his house for a home visit some days ago, acting kindly. Men indeed tend to neglect what they've already obtained, huh.
Faced with Lin Chengcai's sudden question, everyone turned to look at him. Yan Lie, he had met once before, but he didn't have a good impression of this stern-faced detective; he even scared him before.
Li Zijun was a bit expectant. Though Su Qing had been involved in several cases she had observed, she honestly hadn't found anything outstanding about this junior. It was all according to her mentor, and now she had the chance to see what insights he might have.
The other two were also colleagues in the Criminal Investigation Division, experienced officers who had handled numerous cases, now looking with slight curiosity at this young man in plain clothes.
To them, Su Qing didn't look like a policeman, lacking the aura of one, and appeared too young. Although there were indeed younger officers, this one, no matter how you looked at it, didn't seem like one.
But since he was called by Lin Chengcai, they didn't say anything; after all, even within the Criminal Investigation Division, not everyone knew him or was interested in him.
In response, Su Qing thought for a moment and then answered: "I feel that woman wasn't telling the truth."
Upon hearing this, everyone except Lin Chengcai was taken aback.
What could she possibly be lying about? Could she be making a false report?
"What's your reason?" Lin Chengcai asked back.
"A woman, about to get married, going to bars to drink and fool around with male friends, such a person is obviously a frequent bar-goer. Having a relationship with someone wouldn't be surprising. Would such a woman, having experienced such an incident, choose to report it?
Moreover, when she spoke earlier, I felt she was deliberately hiding some things, and some points seemed blatantly unreasonable. For example, if she wanted to report the crime, why not come yesterday? She could say she was scared, but she specifically emphasized a man's name, saying he took her home. I find it illogical."
Su Qing stated, feeling it was unreasonable, yet that was because he knew the outcome, and others might not see it as clearly as he did.
"That's not much of an argument!"
