Chapter 153: Book By Its Cover

An old saying went as ’do not judge a book by its cover’, but for the poor humans, it was easier said than done.

When Aaron had seen the small little creature buzzing around the flowers, he assumed that killing one would be simpler than learning how to whistle properly.

But by the gods was he wrong.

His blade collided against the metallic spikes of the insect, who had them crisscrossed in an X shape in front of its chest.

The insect was small, barely two to three inches from the head to toe, and yet, Aaron felt a chill crawl up his spine. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

He had put all his strength into the attack and yet the bee was able to tank the blow without moving a single inch!

Aaron’s flight or fight instincts were triggered and he slowly began to backpedal a bit, looking up at the darkening sky.

He was no expert, but if he had to guess, the rain would arrive in less than a few minutes.

"Uhm... I am sorry? Happy eating, I will go!" He said to the floating bug before turning around and dashing in the opposite direction without any hesitation.

"Kree...? Kreeeee!"

The insect was confused about the attack at first, before it saw the attacker running away right in front of its eyes.

Its shout sounded like a specialized soundwave, travelling out of its small body in waves.

’Please no hivemind, please...’ Aaron prayed to the gods of Earth once again, hoping for good luck as he ran with all his might.

The swordstaff was already stored into his inventory by now, his feet drumming onto the damp soil as he jumped over the smaller bushes every once in a while, looking backwards between intervals.

Though it didn’t seem like praying to the Earthly gods in Solaris turned out to be useful.

A single sight back and Aaron never wanted to look back again, as behind him, he could see a huge horde of beedrill-like insects flying out towards him!

Their metallic spikes were aimed forward, intending to tear through him as their wings buzzed at an insane velocity.

Due to the smaller size, the distance between the two was maintained as neither of the two parties were capable of gaining ground onto one another.

’What can I do, what can I do, what can I do...’ Aaron racked his brain for ideas, adrenaline pumping in his veins.

Reverse senses was beyond useful in this equation as there were too many of those to count and he would rather not get hit even once by them to worry about any pain.

Who knew how potent the venom of these monstrosities was?

For pleasure leech, it was self explanatory why it cannot be used at the moment.

But... dignity of the weak...

The moment Aaron remembered the existence of his latest skill, he activated it.

Change was immediate.

His aura burst out of his body in a translucent pulse, slowing down the chasing bees as he continued to run forward at his highest speed.

...

’Huff... huff... haa...’

Aaron fell to his knees, sweat dripping down his forehead and neck as he gasped huge gulps of air.

For nearly 10 minutes, he had been running at his highest speed continuously, not stopping and not looking back.

In his mind it was best to give all he could before he looked back.

His reasoning was simple, if he cannot outrun or escape them even when he was fully locked in, it was foolish to think he could escape from them in any other circumstance.

And it was worth it, as looking back, there was no bee following after him anymore.

But there was also a tiny problem.

He was in a completely different place than where he used to be.

The thick canopy and the selfish tall tress still dominated the skies, but the life below them was another world of its own.

Dotted around the flooring, many different shapes and sizes of mushrooms grew.

Some were colourful while the others were the common, boring grey.

The flowery shrubs and flowers were nigh non-existent, making Aaron breathe a sigh of relief at the thought that those freaky bees would not be present here.

And when slightly calmer and beyond exhausted, he chose to do something more... light hearted.

The first choice reward that he received from the Primordial Consort.

The system window said that it was sent to his inventory, and thus Aaron had to pull up the window.

But before he could focus on the inventory, he drew out an exhausted sigh at the sight of his status screen.

He had already noticed the debuff that was forced upon him by the universe yet again, reducing the value of each point to be only 2.5 stat, meaning every 2 points into it, he would get 5 stats.

Of course, at his level of magic, every single point counted as it was too hard to get it normally.

He also noticed the lack of 25% buff to each of his stats, making him sigh in pity that the buff from his late boy toy class was gone.

And since none of his stat got any external buff, he could only assume that his new class’s buffs would only be available to him once he clear these trials.

But luckily... he had his own buffs.

’34 additional points into magic.’

[ Magic: 510 → 595 ]

And with the addition of those new 85 stats, Aaron’s 20% AMCC boosted his stats by 119 instead of the previous 102.

His lips cracked into a satisfied smile as he pressed onto the third inventory slot, retrieving his First Choice rewards out into his own hands...
