My Lady Always Lacks Ambition-Chapter 951 - 930: Something Fishy
Qin Liuxi always felt that Yan Qishan’s death lacked logic, but the Water God Marquis of Wind clearly stated it was an accident. A demigod like him would not have made a mistake.
"Faces can change, too. A person’s fortune shifts according to their aura. When fortune is good, everything goes smoothly. But if one hits a streak of bad luck or touches a shadow, it’s a different story, and the face changes accordingly." Qin Liuxi explained to Master Tang: "For someone like Mr. Yan, it was an unexpected death; he must have been tainted by Evil Aura."
Master Tang said: "Could he have really been tainted by something like that? Doesn’t his family have great fortune? They should have been prosperous and safe."
Qin Liuxi replied in a leisurely tone: "Yes, they are blessed with great fortune, but that doesn’t mean they’re worry-free. It just means that when facing adversity, things generally turn out well. But not everyone is like that. That’s why Marquis of Wind said it was an accident, and I find it quite peculiar."
Master Tang looked downbeat: "Nothing you say will help now, as he’s gone. I received this bad news, and in my distress, my heart condition flared up again. And with the long journey, your teacher’s wife was worried. If you were here, I surely would have gone to bid farewell, but now I couldn’t even see him one last time. We’ve been separated by life and death."
Qin Liuxi thought for a moment and said: "Even if he died unexpectedly, he wouldn’t linger in the human world. I can have someone bring him up so you all can talk for a while."
Master Tang’s eyes lit up: "Is that possible?"
"Normally, it’s inappropriate to casually summon ghosts who’ve entered the Ghost Gate. Seeing yin souls through yin eyes isn’t good for one’s body, especially since you’re not a cultivator and your health is weak," Qin Liuxi said. "But he died suddenly and under such mysterious circumstances, I want to ask him about it."
It so happens that Black Impermanence owes me a favor. Why waste it? Oh, the favor was part of a buy-one-get-one-free deal? 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
No problem, I’ve got no shame and can be a rogue!
Black Impermanence was startled while capturing an Evil Soul. Which little demon is plotting against me?
Master Tang, without much thought, said: "Then bring him up quickly. Whether it’s good or not, meeting him once counts for decades of friendship; it’s worth it."
Anyway, this student won’t be negligent about his body attracting yin energy. More talismans and some talisman water should be enough.
Seeing the time was right, Qin Liuxi instructed Teng Zhao to start acupuncture: "Release needles, don’t rub and seal the points, let the evil energy disperse with the needles."
Teng Zhao responded and said to Master Tang: "Breathe according to my instructions."
Master Tang was very obedient.
Seeing Teng Zhao had correctly released the needles, Qin Liuxi found a spot outside to create talismans and chant to summon Black Impermanence. The study wasn’t suitable, as its scholarly aura repelled yin souls.
Black Impermanence had just captured an Evil Soul with the Soul Hook Chain when he heard the summon from ancestor Qin Liuxi, angrily pulling out the black mourning staff from his back and hitting the Evil Soul with it.
"I told you to run! How dare you escape, causing me all this trouble and now I’m summoned again. Run, you scoundrel!"
Pure black Divine Spell power struck the Evil Soul, making him scream in agony.
He was truly wronged!
Black Impermanence vented his anger but still felt depressed, shrinking the chain until the Evil Soul was compressed into a fragment.
Evil Soul: I am evil, yet some are eviler!
After solidly dealing with the Evil Soul, Black Impermanence rushed off to Qin Liuxi, feeling a bit shattered inside. This was becoming too frequent; he should consider taking a vacation!
Standing in the dark a tree’s shadow, Qin Liuxi saw Black Impermanence appear with a sycophantic smile and asked: "Did you dispatch the Nascent Soul?"
"Already on duty," Black Impermanence smiled and said: "What does your lordship need?"
"There’s someone I want you to bring up; I have questions for him."
Black Impermanence’s eyelid twitched: "Lordship, this isn’t appropriate, is it?"
"Hmm?"
Black Impermanence shook: "I’m asking, why must you personally question him? I can relay the message."
"No need, there’s someone who wants to see him too." Qin Liuxi waved his hand: "Just bring him up. It’s Yan Qishan from Yuhang. Check if he’s been reincarnated."
Resigned, Black Impermanence opened the Book of Life and Death, wrote down Yan Qishan’s name, glanced at it, and chuckled: "This guy died in a sewage pit."
That’s quite the flavorful way to die!
Seeing Qin Liuxi’s face turn green, he awkwardly smiled: "I’ll be right back."
But unexpectedly, what was supposed to be a quick trip took him a full hour. Upon returning, he reported: "Lordship, Yan Qishan hasn’t entered the Ghost Gate for Huangquan yet. Perhaps he doesn’t know he’s dead and didn’t enter the Ghost Gate?"
Qin Liuxi frowned: "No other ghost messenger hooked his soul?"
"I’ve checked all records and found no trace of him reporting at the Ghost Gate. He’s either escaped or hasn’t followed." Black Impermanence replied.
Ghost messengers don’t just lead souls as soon as they’re hooked. Some souls, once dead, hold on to obsessions, unwilling to follow to reincarnation; they end up wandering in the human world as Lonely Souls and Wild Ghosts.
Others, like the Evil Soul he caught earlier, follow the path only to regret and escape.
Qin Liuxi’s sense of oddity arose immediately: "Sure he’s not in the Underworld for reincarnation?"
"Absolutely!"
Qin Liuxi then asked: "The Book of Life and Death records his death as an unexpected one, not murder?"
"Indeed, not by human hands."
Could he still have obsessions?
This is odd, with Marquis of Wind overseeing investigations; his soul should have been accounted for, including any lingering obsessions.
"Thanks for checking." Qin Liuxi offered him a pot of wine and a roast chicken.
Black Impermanence accepted them with a grin and left.
Master Tang, fighting off drowsiness, asked Qin Liuxi as she returned: "How did it go, did you find him?"
Qin Liuxi shook her head: "He hasn’t reincarnated."
Master Tang was astonished: "Why is that?"
The man is dead; how could he not reincarnate?
"Either he still clings to obsessions, wandering in the human world, or he’s stayed put; or his soul is gone."
"Gone, as in soul scattering?" Master Tang was horrified, and seeing her nod, goosebumps covered his body, his face turning pale.
Even if someone dies, how could they just be gone without reason?
"Does this mean his death wasn’t an accident?" asked Master Tang, his throat dry.
"The Book of Life and Death entries indeed record accidental death, but the lack of reincarnation is certainly suspicious," Qin Liuxi pursed her lips, "Where did he drink? Could you give me an address? I’ll check when I have the chance."
"I’ll go with you."
Qin Liuxi refused without hesitation: "No. Your health can’t endure such exertion. I don’t want to go through strenuous nursing; I’ve been very busy lately."
Master Tang looked crestfallen, and he showed his disappointment.
Seeing this, Qin Liuxi was resolute in her stance. It was evident there were risks involved; she wouldn’t take him into danger!
