My Lady Always Lacks Ambition-Chapter 1041 - 1012: No Fools in the Capital
After Ming Wang sent Qin Liuxi off, Ming Hui came over holding his family’s beloved little aunt, Ming Zhen, to find him. The little girl, seeing her old dad, kicked her legs vigorously and scooted over to Ming Wang.
"Oh my, my dear, you’re finally awake." Ming Wang held his daughter, who came late in life, feeling his heart melt. Especially when the little girl gave him a kiss, albeit a slobbery one, he still smiled broadly.
After playing with his daughter for a while, pushing some snacks in front of her for her to grab and eat, Ming Wang began talking with his grandson. He only had this one grandson, and his daughter was still a little kid, so the only one he could discuss matters with was Ming Hui.
Not beating around the bush, he told the treasonous plan of Qin Liuxi without omitting a single detail.
"What do you make of this?" Ming Wang’s voice was very low.
Ming Hui was greatly surprised as well. Qin Liuxi was an outsider; seeing her drive away evil, catch ghosts, and heal others was hardly surprising, yet who would have thought she had such grand ambitions.
A rebellion!?
Ming Hui’s head buzzed, blood rushed to his face turning it red, and he was quite thrilled to the point of being oblivious.
Seeing his grandson’s barely concealed excitement, Ming Wang’s mouth twitched. He had forgotten that this grandson was a madman who thrived on chaos. Previously frail with a heart condition and unsure how long he’d live, he thought a person should live life to the fullest, and since his grandson might have a short life, he let him live without constraints.
Raising him like this, he turned into a tyrant in the capital, arrogant and unruly, utterly audacious, like a madcap.
There was nothing in this world Ming Hui dared not do; it was just he hadn’t thought of it yet!
Now, upon hearing Qin Liuxi’s crazy plan, he was probably glad to have caught up!
Indeed, Ming Hui asked excitedly, "Whom does she want to place in power? What’s the strategy, how do we do it?"
Ming Wang’s face turned dark as he said, "Behave yourself. This is the kind of carelessness that could lead to the extermination of our nine tribes. It’s not like those minor thefts and robberies you usually deal with. Since my father resigned and retired, the Ming Royal Mansion hasn’t been involved in power struggles for succession. We’re a loyal Royalist family; whoever becomes Emperor, our position in the Ming Royal Mansion remains unchanged."
Ming Hui shook his head, "Old man, there’s no such thing as an unchanging monarchy, especially since we’re merely a different surname prince. Initially, this title was acquired during the founding of the previous dynasty. When the Qi Family took over, the reason we weren’t stripped of this title was that the ancestors decisively pledged allegiance with twenty thousand troops to the new emperor and rendered great service. That’s why the golden plaque of our mansion hasn’t been taken down."
Ming Wang raised his eyebrows.
"But it wasn’t removed. Do you think it’s because the Saint is kind-hearted? A royal title – the fewer, the better, it’s beneficial for the Imperial Family. After all, with too many in existence, who knows if one day they’ll suddenly rebel? It’s just because my father died young and you’re an old wastrel indulging in romance, and I, with my congenital heart disease, might die young, that perhaps they’ve been quietly waiting for the Ming Family to have no descendants. Once our family dies out, they can easily remove the plaque without any bad reputation."
Listen to that irreverent tone!
Never have I seen anyone curse themselves until now.
Ming Wang slammed the table in anger, "You ungrateful brat, what nonsense are you spouting!"
Ming Hui crossed his legs, bouncing them idly, not bothered by the scolding at all, saying, "You don’t like hearing the truth, but you must accept reality. Look, am I right? To put it bluntly, you’re in your sixties. Even if you live ten or twenty more years, if within a few years you kick the bucket, with my frail body and little aunt being just a young girl, can I guard this mansion’s plaque?"
Ming Wang was dumbstruck and pointed at him, trembling uncontrollably, "You unfilial son!"
Cursing himself wasn’t enough, now he’s cursing his father too!
"Don’t be angry, eat!" Ming Zhen handed a piece of pastry to her dad’s mouth, then waved her little fists menacingly at Ming Hui.
Ming Wang’s anger dissipated instantly, hugging her tenderly and calling her "my dear," saying, "Our Treasure Bead is such a sweetie, daddy loves you."
It’s improper to casually reveal a daughter’s full name, so Ming Wang gave his late-in-life daughter the pet name Treasure Bead. Though rustic, considering her noble status, it fits.
Ming Hui pursed his lips at this doting father, "Let’s say you’re not around; the current Saint might hold back for his reputation’s sake and not touch our plaque, but what about the next Saint? Rely on the Crown Prince, that pretentious fool who’s skilled at acting. If he takes the throne, he’ll sooner or later target our plaque. Why? Don’t forget, what enmity did his queen mother have with my mother?"
The current Princess Consort Xian and Ming Hui’s late mother were actually cousins, but Ming Hui’s mother died childless. In the past, Princess Consort Xian’s family wanted her estate, and even during her maiden days, Princess Consort Xian spread rumors that Ming Hui’s mother was loose, causing her much distress.
Holding his precious daughter, Ming Wang furrowed his brows, "So you’re implying that we should join in the affair?"
"It’s worth trying, might as well give it a shot," Ming Hui said. "Don’t forget, who are the people indebted to her? Just that Mu Wangwang treats her like an ancestor to be revered, and Marquis Cheng’en gained a son because of her."
Ming Wang’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"The Empress only has a Princess under her, though she is the mother of the nation, and no matter which child takes the throne, they’d have to call her ’mother’ and venerate her as the Empress Dowager. But if the Crown Prince really ascends, wouldn’t his mother be conferred as Empress Dowager as well? Then, who would be the truly important Empress Dowager? In the capital, who doesn’t see that clearly? Just watch, if the Crown Prince ascends, Empress Mu’s days won’t be easy, including her maternal clan."
Listening to all this, Ming Wang felt a bit complicated. Under the Emperor’s feet, how many powerful people are truly innocent and naive? His unruly grandson knew what should be known, despite his condition not being good.
"When the ancestor returns, we’ll ask his opinion," Ming Wang said, knowing the matter’s importance and refraining from making a hasty decision, as no immediate action was in motion; Qin Liuxi herself said she’s just piecing together a patchy troupe.
But according to Ming Hui, those indebted to her are many and all capable. If she truly assembles this troupe, it wouldn’t be a patchy troupe – it would be adorned in gold and bedecked with jewels!
Ming Wang felt a jab of envy. Who was it, being fed lies and brought to fortune in this way, what great virtue had they accumulated in their past life?
And the fortunate person Ming Wang was curious about was, at that moment, holding a paper crane, daydreaming, and after opening it, was momentarily stunned.
Qi Qian was clutching the paper crane, heading to serve as the disaster relief imperial envoy.
This meant he was officially being sent to accumulate merit, with this snow disaster relief as the first wave. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Although there was no decree, Qi Qian believed that if she could send a message this way, she must be confident in his journey. Therefore, he must prepare himself.
"Someone, summon Mr. Deng and the others to the council chamber." Qi Qian called a servant to instruct them, placing the paper crane on the fire to burn it.
The path was before him, and he had to tread on it.
