Chapter 59: The Big Day

His gaze turned to watch the middle of the camp where the fire flickered, and how the demigods started gathering around as if forming a circle.

But a bit away from the people, a huge demigod sat alone in the corner. No matter how dark Dan could see clearly and could make out Baozhai’s features clearly.

Dan got up and walked up to him. Dan took a seat beside him, and they both watched the demigods try to act normal.

"I never got to say thank you for saving me," Dan said.

"Well, that’s nothing. We need as many fighters as we can get if we are to leave here alive," came the reply.

No words were said again, but they both just stared into the fire and the darkness. Dan began flicking stones as he stared around.

He watched as the demigods ate their enemies. His stomach started turning, something wanted to leave his stomach. But Dan held it down. A dark expression began growing on his face.

Baozhai noticed the growing dark expression.

"What is it?"

At first, Dan said nothing but kept quiet.

"Why do we eat these creatures? Aren’t we scared that they aren’t edible, or poisonous?"

"Well, that’s a risk we are willing to take. Because if we don’t, we have nothing to eat then. And the creatures here are really not much different from the animals on Earth."

Dan’s gaze turned to look at Baozhai.

"What do you mean it’s no different from the animals on Earth?"

"Well, they have been mutated, so to speak."

"Mutated?"

"Yes, mutated. Due to the killing stone, its aura and magic have changed the creatures around and turned them into killing machines. And the longer they are closer to it, the more powerful the creature becomes."

Is that how powerful she is that even in imprisonment, she still has the power to change things around?

"So, how would we be able to contain the killing stone?"

"Don’t worry about that, but when the time comes, you will be given instructions on what to do."

As they spoke, another being started walking towards them. His slim features slowly walked towards. He came and sat beside Baozhai. He gave Dan a cold stare before whispering into the ears of Baozhai.

Baozhai then nodded, his gaze turned to Dan.

"We are reaching the end of our journey here. I won’t say I trust you well enough, but I won’t say I am scared of you either. But I would need your help against a common enemy."

"We would like you to take care of Nate, and if possible, to make sure that the Nogitsune doesn’t get its hand on the stone."

Hearing Nate’s name, Dan nodded, agreeing with Baozhai.

"But we haven’t found the location of the killing stone yet."

"That is no longer a problem as Renjiro has found it and will lead us to it tomorrow. So, go get some rest as we have a lot of work to do tomorrow."

Dan nodded one more time before he got up and left. He went to where Sigrid and Nate lay. Holding onto Soul Reaper, Dan tried to get some sleep.

We have a big day tomorrow. I finally get to meet the one who orchestrated all this.

They had been walking through the ancient like catacombs for a while now. With all the demigods on alert, ready for anything that may pop out of the darkness.

Dan carried Nate on his back, so that the young demigod doesn’t have to be tired. Dan had brought up his system screen to look at his current stat.

Having seen all these, but his mind wasn’t really here though but it was at the front looking at the silver-haired demigod. Who had put on her cold armor of indifference.

You know you don’t have to always act tough you know?

As though she heard his thoughts, Sigrid turned to meet his gaze. But her gaze didn’t stay on his gaze for a second but moved swiftly to the next demigod beside him.

The demigods kept moving on in silence. The journey just became more somber the more they got deeper into this ancient place. The air around them started getting thicker. Words unspoken, but their heart becoming heavier by the minute.

CRASH!!!

A sound was heard ahead of the group. Immediately the demigods stopped moving. Each pulled out their weapons and took on a defensive formation. The crash sound they heard eventually died down.

The whole place began to grow quiet. Only the breaths of the demigods could be heard, accompanied by the loud beating of their hearts.

Pairs of glowing eyes started popping up one after the other. Low growls could be heard coming from where the eyes had popped from.

As Dan watched he could see some of the demigods sweating, while some hands shaking.

Someone was in front of them though, as he stood before them, slowly his body began to light up.

And then

His body erupted into flames, and for a second the light was so bright that it blinded everyone within the whole place.

Taking small steps Baozhai started heading towards all the beasts. From small steps he was now engaged into a full sprint heading for the beasts.

As the demigods saw this, they immediately followed suit and dove into battle. And soon a full scale battle ensued.

The screams of the demigods echoed through the ancient walls, while the growls of beast resonated with it.

The whole place descended into chaos.

The ancient walls were being painted by the blood of beast and demigods are like. Limbs were being amputated. Roars and screams erupted.

Dan watched as the tide kept moving from the beasts to the demigods and from the demigods back to the beast.

It was full on bloodbath.

Dan tried to stay at the center of the fight as the had been surrounded by the beasts and he needed to keep Nate.

To do that he needed to remain were the fight was less intense.

He called forth Soul Reaper, which immediately stirred from his shadow and was placed on his hand.

He needed to be careful as he was now low on Life essence and any reckless mistake would lead to the end of his life.

This is the final part of the battle. I need to make sure I survive and keep Nate safe too.

Dan thought to himself. When he noticed a beast rushing toward him from the corner of his eyes.

The beast was running on all fours. It had a long snout, with long teeth and it was shy in showing them off.

It had dark fur all over its body, and from its mouth a kind drool was dripping down as it came toward Dan.

It doesn’t seem to have tough scales but just skin and fur.

Dan thought to himself.

He noticed though the creature was on all four, it had an incredible amount of muscle mass.

I just need to make one clean cut and that is it.

Dan then placed Nate down.

"Make sure to stay here and don’t move."

He turned to watch as the beast kept approaching with so much speed. As the beast had almost reached Dan it then leaped into the air.

Dan gripped Soul Reaper tightly and moved to out matching the beast speed. He leapt into the air to.

The beast reached out with its claw and swiped for Dan but it missed as Dan had passed under its arm.

As Dan passed under its arm he spun underneath creatures belly. Before they both landed on different parts of the ancient place.

Their eyes locked onto the other, not wanting to letting the other escape their sight.

The beast kept trying to go round Dan, until it stopped.

A small cry escaped its snout. Little by little drops of blood began to drip down to the floor.

Its eyes were now filled with hatred as it looked at Dan.

Again it rushed to attack Dan. It leaped into the air, but this time it didn’t stay airborne for long. Instead it came down crashing.

It tried standing up again but this time, its innards came gushing out, spilling all over the floor.

With its eyes wide open, it took its last breath.

Dan took a deep breath as he watched the beast die.

But the chaos hadn’t stopped; instead, something else happened.

A loud growl could be heard that echoed through the whole place. A unified march could be heard echoing through the walls of the place.

The sound got louder and louder with every passing minute. Slowly, the sound drew nearer to the demigods and beasts.

The whole chaos within the place stopped. Both the beasts and the demigods looked towards a part of the ancient place. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Slowly, it began to light up and glistened. And beings with horns began to surface from the darkness.
