My Joker System: From Low Mana Trash to the Mightiest Wizard!-Chapter 145: Stupefied Aunty
Chapter 145: Stupefied Aunty
"So?" Helena began, laying down a plate of stir-fried vegetables and steamed rice, along with a few boiled eggs, on the table. "Since you’re fetching me with a motorcycle, I believe we’re moving houses?"
The middle-aged woman maintained a composed exterior, but inwardly, she wasn’t too sure and was merely probing.
After all, how could a student barely a year into wizardry studies obtain enough money for a city life?
The Manatech Motorcycle was probably not her son’s, and he was only here to visit.
Either that or he was engaging in something illegal.
If he were, then she would give him a piece of her mind and refuse to leave.
In any case, Helena was determined to find out what her son had been up to over the past few months.
"Yeah," Hal confirmed, devouring a mouthful alongside Loki, who had been given his own portions.
"And? How exactly did you earn the money for it? Also, is that motorcycle yours?" Helena followed up, her tone slightly cold and stern.
It felt as if she were warning Hal to answer the way she wanted, or he would face the wrath of her rattan slippers and legendary-tier reprimands.
"Well... It’s a long story," Hal said, causing his mother to frown for a moment. "Since I’m going to explain anyway, why not call Aunty Lynn over? She should hear about what her daughter was up to, too."
Helena wasn’t satisfied with Hal’s response.
However, she shall give him the benefit of the doubt for now, heading out to call Lynn, who was waiting in the house just a few dozen meters from theirs and was in the process of wondering when Ennya would visit her.
A minute later, the two middle-aged women returned.
"Hal, Helena told me you were looking for me. Is this about Ennya? If it is, then don’t worry. You two enjoy your time together, and you can tell me about it later, alright?" Lynn began with raised brows.
Hal hurriedly swallowed his food, fearing that the aunt would leave.
The matter was indeed about Ennya.
However, there was also something important he needed to discuss with her.
"G-Give me a sec, Aunty. This is important," Hal said, quickly downing the rest of his food in just under a minute.
"Jeebus Bryce, Hal. Are you that hungry? Slow down! You might choke to death!"
"Hey, Lynn! Stop saying such unlucky things about my son!" Helena interjected, her tone reprimanding, though her friend didn’t care one bit.
A few more moments later, the three sat across from each other.
The two middle-aged women looked at him with a curious and slightly impatient gaze.
"So, what’s up?" Lynn asked.
"Well, let’s start with Ennya," Hal said, pausing for a moment to clear his throat before continuing. "Let me congratulate you, Aunty Lynn. Your daughter is now a Magna Prospect. The most talented in the entire history of the empire, in fact. If you had seen how she pulled out a godly mana-bound artifact that resembled a small sun, you would have been the one choking to death! Ahh, damn it. I still feel a bit envious whenever I remember the moment..."
The rather short and plumpish aunt choked on her saliva upon hearing what Hal had just said.
What the hell was that crappy lie of a story?!
Her daughter, that little gremlin, was now the most talented Magna Prospect in history?
Who was this brat kidding?
If that were even half true, she wouldn’t have heard the end of it from her daughter, no?
"Aihh, you brat!"
*PAH!*
Helena took the initiative to smack the back of her son’s head. "Quick, tell your aunt your real reason for calling her. Stop wasting time!"
"Aihh... why are you two always so violent?! I’m telling the truth! She doesn’t even have time to visit me, her childhood friend from the same city! How could she visit you here to tell you herself? Her schedule is packed now that she’s basically a celebrity. Plus, her master was quite the stern hag. W-Well, according to her. Not my words."
The two aunts slowly turned and locked eyes, the shorter Lynn blinking once before her lips and hands began to tremble.
She knew Hal well.
If he were lying, he would have dropped the act by now.
"W-Wait, you’re not lying?" the aunt asked again, her voice full of disbelief.
"I’m not!" Hal shook his head and took a drink of water to help wash down the food he had just eaten.
"T-Then..."
"Yes, Aunty Lynn. Again, congratulations! Your future is secured!" free𝑤ebnovel.com
"To hell with that! I-I..." the plump aunt’s voice cracked as she stuttered, tears streaming down her face. "It’s good that she’ll have a good future... I just... just couldn’t give her one. And with her attitude and intelligence, I feared that..."
Hal then realized he had misspoken.
The aunt, despite always reprimanding her daughter with a brash tone, had always been thinking of Ennya’s well-being all along.
His mother also shot him a glare before proceeding to comfort her friend.
’Uhh...’
In the end, he could only rub the aunt’s back, giving her time to process the information.
Once she regained control of her emotions, she turned to look at Hal again.
"I swear, if you’re lying..."
He could only look at her helplessly and repeat, for the second time, "I’m not lying, Aunty. If you don’t believe me, you can ask around the city yourself. I’m taking you two away, anyway."
The two middle-aged women froze at Hal’s words, then turned to look at him before asking in unison,
"You would what now?"
"Aihh, I’ve been repeating myself a lot today!" Hal joked with a grin. "I said that, on behalf of Ennya, I’ll be taking you to live the dreamy city life! She really won’t be able to visit you for quite some time, especially if you’re all the way out here.
Plus, I’m bringing Mom to Aeloria with me, and I think she’d be way less bored if you two were living together in the same house."
