My Horny Stepmom Turns Me into Her Vampire Slave-Chapter 50: The hours before the disaster
Clarissa Felmon, Frank Pyton’s secretary, places her hands on Philip’s back wound.
A faint yellow glow spreads from her palms, and the boy grits his teeth in pain.
She’s using Healing Magic, a spell that can heal even very serious wounds. The most skilled healers can even reconstruct missing body parts.
Philip lies face down on a cot in the infirmary of Frank’s villa. Joe lies beside him, in the same position.
This is already Philip’s third healing session, yet the wound from Levreeshka’s lash is still far from healed. Joe’s, on the other hand, is almost completely healed, as it was less severe thanks to his thick skin.
Isabelle and Frank are there with them.
"You should consider yourselves lucky to still be alive — I even warned you about her," Isabelle grumbles.
"Yeah, and you said she wasn’t a problem. Yet she knocked out two of my best men in one blow!" Frank snaps, irritated but trying to stay calm.
"You clearly misunderstood me. I said her cunning worried me more than her strength, but that doesn’t mean she’s weak — quite the opposite. You don’t become a general of the Scarlet Army without reason. At least now I’m sure it’s really her behind all this. Not that I had doubts, but I still hoped the appearance of the primordial vampires had another cause. Ugh... what a nuisance." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Isabelle drops onto the couch beside Frank, dejected. Then she snatches the bottle of cognac from his hand as he’s about to pour it and drinks straight from it.
Frank just grimaces in annoyance.
"You could have been clearer, Isabelle. Anyway, I’ve got an important meeting tomorrow with a guy from Wall Street. I’ll be out all day, so no need to prepare lunch."
Isabelle pouts slightly.
"What a shame. I was planning to cook my special meatloaf."
"All the more reason to eat out."
"Asshole."

RIIING!
In the middle of the night, Brianne’s phone starts ringing.
"H-Hello, Mom... you know it’s four in the morning, right...?" she mutters sleepily.
"Oh, you finally answered — I’m so glad. Your work phone was off, so I called you here. I’m not calling as your mother, but as General Lance."
"There’s a reason it’s off... tomorrow’s my day off... if it’s about work, call me Tuesday. Good night."
"Unfortunately, it can’t wait until Tuesday."
Her mother’s serious tone instantly wipes away Brianne’s drowsiness.
"What happened? It’s not like you to call my personal number for work, especially at this hour. Should I be worried?"
"Yes, Brianne. You should be worried."
"I’m listening."
As she speaks, Brianne jumps out of bed and starts taking off her pajamas. The large mirror in front of her reflects her slender naked body.
"Two hours ago, primordial vampires were spotted outside New York, and a family there was attacked. No survivors. The wounds on the few remains left match an attack by those creatures."
"Shit... now what?!"
Sensing where this is going, Brianne starts putting on her Monster Slayer combat uniform.
A tight blue suit made from a fabric called nexthal.
It’s a special fiber taken from creatures that inhabit N’Raeth. Incredibly light and comfortable, yet stronger than steel.
Over it, a long white cloak made of the same material.
"Do you remember when the damage from the clash between the Platinum Death and Rudeor Azuralis was passed off as a terrorist attack? It seemed absurd to you at the time, but I told you it was part of the emergency plan if containment failed. Well... that moment has come."
"M-Mom... no, General Lance... please, stop beating around the bush and tell me!"
"Right now, beneath our feet, the fiercest battle the HESPARC United States division has fought in the last hundred years is underway. All New York teams are trying to hold back an endless horde of primordial vampires emerging from the sewers. But there are too many. The Monster Slayers are falling one after another — it’s only a matter of time before they reach the surface. And when they do, it will be total chaos. Given the situation, HESPARC headquarters has made the painful decision to activate the emergency plan — New York will be sealed. No one will be allowed in or out to stop the spread of the virus. Radio, satellite, and all other communications will be cut to prevent news from spreading."
"I understand... but New Yorkers will still see everything! Discrediting a junkie is easy, but an entire population... how is that even possible?"
"When I told you that if containment failed we’d witness one of the darkest moments in human history, I wasn’t exaggerating. When the emergency plan begins, the police will try to move as many civilians as possible into underground bunkers under the pretense of a terrorist attack. But those who don’t cooperate or don’t make it inside in time... will be eliminated."
"W-WHAT?! YOU’RE JOKING, RIGHT?! I-It’s impossible innocent civilians would be killed just for witnessing something!"
"I agree with you, Brianne. I did everything I could to propose alternatives, but it’s no longer in HESPARC U.S.’s hands. General command has taken over, and we can only obey..."
"Then I’ll kill all the primordial vampires before they reach the surface! General Lance, which team is closest? I’m going to help them right away!"
"You can’t."
"W-What do you mean I can’t?! Tell me!"
"I’ve just assigned you a mission in Philadelphia. Their teams are understaffed, so I transferred you there effective immediately. The emergency plan begins at seven in the morning. Until then, you can move freely. Pack your things and leave before it’s too late."
"I... I can’t abandon my comrades! A Monster Slayer’s duty is to give their life to protect humanity from threats from other worlds, and I have no intention of running away!"
"Brianne Leviantis, this is not a suggestion. It’s an order!"
"To hell with you and your orders!"
"Brianne, I’m your superior — you cannot disobey a direct order! Pack your things and leave for Philadelphia. Now!"
No answer comes from the other end of the line.
"Brianne, answer immediately! Brianne! Brianne!"
But she hung up a few seconds ago.
