My Happy Daily Life After Being Reborn-Chapter 367 - 9 The Weight of the Whole World
Chapter 367: Chapter 9 The Weight of the Whole World
The next day, Lin Xiaoguai overslept as expected. When she woke up, Shen Chi was no longer beside her.
She frowned and propped herself up, only to feel a wave of soreness spreading from her waist. Her arm felt weak, and she lay back down with a thump.
"What’s wrong?" Shen Chi, who was just pushing the door to enter, asked anxiously.
Lin Xiaoguai glared at him, "What do you think?"
Noticing her hand on her waist, Shen Chi chuckled and sat down on the bed’s edge to start massaging her, coaxing, "Does that feel any better?"
"Press harder," Lin Xiaoguai said, frowning.
Shen Chi hurriedly complied.
"What time is it now?" Lin Xiaoguai asked.
"It’s almost ten."
"Why is it so late?" Lin Xiaoguai asked, stunned. She instinctively looked out the window, but the curtains were drawn tightly shut, which explained why she hadn’t sensed the time of day upon waking.
"Why didn’t you go to work?" she raised her head to ask.
"Are you confused from the train ride? Today is Sunday," Shen Chi explained as he helped her up and took some clean clothes to change her out of her pajamas.
Lin Xiaoguai had long been accustomed to his care. While letting him move, she asked, "Then why did you go to work yesterday?"
"That was extra overtime," Shen Chi said as he fished her hair out from the collar of her clothes.
"What about Little Niangao? I saw him with a backpack when he came back yesterday."
"He’s going to participate in a math competition. He’ll be at school for special tutoring over the next two weeks," Shen Chi explained as he picked her up to sit on the edge of the bed, then crouched down to put shoes and socks on her.
"And now?"
"Little Niangao went out to play basketball with some friends, and he won’t be back for lunch," Shen Chi paused, then added, "I sent the quadruplets to grandma’s with Mrs. Zhang, and I asked her to stay there to look after them."
Lin Xiaoguai’s eyes widened, "What are you up to?"
"Let’s go out and have fun," Shen Chi whispered in her ear, "We’ve never had a date, just the two of us."
The longer the time passed, the more he regretted that the children were born too early. He was busy with work and rarely had time to spend with Wanwan before another child would interrupt them. It used to be just Little Niangao, but now it got even more tricky with Little Spring Breeze and Qiaoqiao, who were not easy to manage.
Lin Xiaoguai was tempted by his words but...
"I was planning to check out the store. I’ve been away for so long, there must be a lot of stock that’s empty."
"It’s fine; we haven’t gone for half a month, and another day or two won’t make a difference. Don’t worry, grandpa is now quite adept at managing the store," Shen Chi tried to persuade her.
How could he not be adept? Watching banknotes flurrying in every day, Shen Zhangming was so contented that he almost wished he could take over that task forever.
"So where shall we go?" Lin Xiaoguai hesitated.
Honestly, over the previous years, she, Huihui, and Xiao Li had practically visited all the tourist spots in the Capital, even bringing Little Niangao with them, leaving only Shen Chi, who was always busy with work. Moreover, from her past life, she had often visited the Capital, so currently, there wasn’t much left there that attracted her.
"I’ll take you cycling in the streets, watch a movie, and fly kites," Shen Chi suggested, unconcerned about visiting those tourist spots.
He had heard that it all was trendy among young couples now.
Lin Xiaoguai grew more enticed and bit her lip as she nodded after a moment.
Shen Chi was instantly thrilled, "You get ready, and I’ll go get the bicycle out."
He’d had this idea for a while, so he cleaned the long-unused bicycle until it was spotless. Now it would come in handy as he wheeled it out from the garage.
"Hop on," Shen Chi said after straddling the bike and looking back at Lin Xiaoguai.
Lin Xiaoguai grasped his shoulder and awkwardly perched on the back seat.
"Hold on tight!" Shen Chi called out, and with a push of his foot, the bicycle began to move.
Lin Xiaoguai wrapped her arms around his waist, the brisk breeze blowing against them, making both feel wonderfully light and airy.
"Where to first?"
"Let’s get something to eat first; you haven’t had breakfast yet."
After leaving the compound, Shen Chi took her to a small shop’s front and whispered to her, "I’ve heard this place has delicious Ginger Chicken. Let’s try it."
Lin Xiaoguai nodded, imitating his whisper, "I can make Ginger Chicken too. I’ll make some for you when I get the chance."
"Great," Shen Chi said, smiling with his eyes narrowed.
Lin Xiaoguai also smiled, making Shen Chi’s heart soften.
To speak truthfully, he owed her quite a bit: a perfect romance, a grand wedding.
But back then, that wedding banquet was indeed the best he could offer.
"Wanwan, once Sisi and the others are old enough, let’s have another wedding, okay? You mentioned, didn’t you, that the wedding dresses foreigners wear are very pretty? At that time, you can wear one of those dresses, and have Sisi and the others be your flower children, scattering flower petals for you," Shen Chi suddenly said after they enjoyed a satisfying meal of Ginger Chicken and stepped out of the shop.
