My Happy Daily Life After Being Reborn-Chapter 335 - 37 Tree Tunnel
Chapter 335: Chapter 37 Tree Tunnel
"Hiring a nanny is settled then," Lin Xiaoguai and the others didn’t need to bother; they just had to wait for Shen Chi to find the right person.
That day, while Lin Xiaoguai was supervising farm workers as they followed Luo Yufang’s instructions to release three hundred carp fingerlings into the pond, she saw Shen Xiu walking in from outside.
"Weren’t you and your brother-in-law going to visit the Forbidden City? Why are you back so early?" Lin Xiaoguai exclaimed in surprise.
"Don’t even mention it. On the way there, we witnessed a car accident. A child, about seven or eight, was hit by a motorcycle and killed on the spot, his brain matter was spilled out. I was so frightened, I almost threw up." Shen Xiu’s face was somewhat pale.
"You didn’t just come back, did you?"
"No, we went to the department store, bought Jiahui a pair of leather shoes, and I got myself a silk scarf," Shen Xiu said with a smile.
"Didn’t you buy anything for Tiantian?" Shen Chi asked as he bent down to wash his hands in a bucket of water nearby.
"I did, I did," Shen Xiu gestured, "such a big bag of White Rabbit creamy candies. Jiahui even felt it was too much when he paid."
"Children should eat less candy," Lin Xiaoguai advised.
"It’s fine, he’s still going to lose his baby teeth anyway," Shen Xiu dismissed casually.
"That’s not how it works. Cavities affect the nerves in the teeth, and even after getting new teeth, cavities will still be cavities," Lin Xiaoguai corrected her mistaken belief.
"Is that true?" Shen Xiu was visibly alarmed.
Lin Xiaoguai nodded, and Shen Xiu anxiously said, "What should we do? We’ve never restricted Tiantian’s candy consumption; he eats as much as he wants."
She couldn’t help blaming Jiahui, "It’s all Jiahui’s fault. He’s a doctor, yet he doesn’t even know this."
Your husband is an orthopedist, not a dentist.
Lin Xiaoguai was somewhat at a loss for words.
"Sister-in-law, why did you release so many carp?" Meanwhile, Shen Xiu, hearing the workers discussing not far away, pouted, "If you raise carps, there won’t be any river snails left, nor clams."
This gal loved those two things the most, and since carps would eat all the river snails and clams in the river where they were raised, she particularly disliked carp.
"We’ve only released these three hundred fingerlings. Grandpa likes eating them, doesn’t he?" Lin Xiaoguai reassured her, "Don’t worry, only this one pond has carp; the other five don’t have any, so there will be plenty of river snails and clams for you to eat."
She felt that Shen Xiu hadn’t matured since getting married; rather, she had become more childish. Thinking of her brother-in-law’s indulgence, Lin Xiaoguai smiled. Maybe this was what they called ’being spoiled and arrogant’?
Shen Xiu didn’t know what her sister-in-law was thinking but perked up immediately upon hearing her, "Are the fingerlings in all six ponds released?"
"Yes," Lin Xiaoguai laughed, "But not too many. We’ll add more in the spring. We’re also going to release some in the moat, so we can go fishing whenever we feel like it."
"My brother surely can; he’s always been good at bringing back fish and birds from outside to improve the family’s meals. I’m not sure if Jiahui can though, I’ve never heard him talk about fishing before," Shen Xiu said cheerfully.
"Boss, should we irrigate the rice fields?" At that moment, a man in his forties approached Lin Xiaoguai and asked.
The title "boss" made Lin Xiaoguai slightly uncomfortable, but she composed herself and replied, "Yes, irrigate them all. If we do it now, it’ll be ready for planting in the spring."
"Alright, got it," the old man said and went off to work.
When Lin Xiaoguai got home, Shen Chi had already arrived earlier, holding Sisi in his left arm and Qiaoqiao in his right, frowning as if deep in thought.
"What’s wrong?" she asked, puzzled.
Shen Chi startled slightly, seemingly just realizing she had arrived, and he sighed, "Today, I met Zheng Enyi from the Zheng family. He actually suggested that we become in-laws, proposing an arranged marriage for our kids."
Zheng Enyi was the youngest son of Han Kuang’s old friend Zheng Ru. The Han family and the Zheng family had good relations as long-standing friends. Although Shen Chi did not acknowledge Han Kuang as his biological father in the past few years, the Han family’s social connections were still embraced, and they interacted with these old friends.
"I remember Zheng Enyi only has one five-year-old son, right?" Lin Xiaoguai paused and asked.
Shen Chi nodded, "You’ve seen him too, the kid with a runny nose who blushes and looks as shy as a girl when he smiles. Where does he compare to Sisi and Qiaoqiao?"
He was evidently quite irritated, clearly displeased that someone was eyeing his daughters.
Awkward, I remember the last time that kid had a runny nose because he had a cold, right? And about him smiling like a girl... I can only say that if someone doesn’t look pleasing to another person’s eyes, everything can seem twisted.
However, Lin Xiaoguai really didn’t agree with arranged marriages either. Not to mention that you can’t count on a child’s temper at a young age, and sometimes a person could be wonderful in all aspects but still not be the one and only in your heart.
