My Goblin System : Levelling up with my SSS Class Devouring skill-Chapter 284
Lyra’s grip on his shoulder tightened. "What happened? You need to tell us so we can help prevent it from happening again."
Satou sat up slowly, and both women helped him despite their obvious desire to keep him lying down and resting. Once he was upright, leaning back against the headboard with a pillow behind him, he looked at both of them—really looked at them.
Jessica, with her hair disheveled from worry, purple eyes still wet with tears, hands trembling slightly despite her healer’s training. Lyra, normally so composed and controlled, with fear still etched clearly across her beautiful features, her hair falling around her face as she leaned close to him.
These two women had just spent five minutes thinking he might be dying. Watching him convulse and shake and not respond to anything they did. They’d been terrified, and he could still see that terror lingering in their eyes.
He owed them the truth. Not a partial truth or a careful explanation that hid his most important secret. The real, complete truth.
Because he loved them. Both of them. With everything he had. And love without trust was hollow.
Satou took both their hands in his, gripping firmly, and met each woman’s gaze in turn. "What I’m about to tell you... I’ve never told anyone else. Not Lord Loki, not Lady Seraphina, not even my closest companions. This is the most dangerous secret I have, and knowing it puts you both at risk."
Jessica’s eyes widened. Lyra’s expression sharpened with focus, her tactical mind already recognizing the weight of what was coming.
"But you deserve to know," Satou continued quietly. "You deserve to understand what happened and why. And more than that..." He squeezed their hands. "I trust you. Both of you. Completely. I love you both, and that means sharing everything—even the secrets that could get us all killed if they’re revealed."
"Satou..." Jessica whispered, her voice trembling.
"What I’m about to reveal," Satou said seriously, "I need your absolute promise that you’ll never tell another soul. Not your friends, not allies you think you can trust. No one. Can you both promise me that?"
Lyra nodded immediately, her expression solemn. "I swear it. On my life and honor. Whatever you tell us stays between the three of us."
Jessica’s hand tightened on his. "I promise. No matter what it is, I’ll never betray your trust. Never."
Satou took a deep breath, organizing his thoughts. This was it. The moment he’d been avoiding since he’d first realized the true nature of his power. The secret that made him simultaneously incredibly powerful and incredibly vulnerable.
"You both know I have an ability called [Devour]," he began. "You’ve seen me use it after battles, absorbing the bodies of defeated enemies. What you don’t know—what nobody knows except me—is the full extent of what that ability actually does."
He paused, making sure he had their complete attention. Both women were focused entirely on him, hanging on every word.
"[Devour] doesn’t just destroy bodies or consume flesh," Satou explained. "It absorbs everything about the target. Their power. Their skills. Their abilities. Their knowledge. Their memories. Their very essence gets pulled into me and becomes part of my own capabilities."
Jessica’s hand flew to her mouth, understanding dawning in her eyes. "That’s why you’ve been getting stronger so quickly. Every enemy you defeat and devour makes you more powerful by literally stealing their abilities."
"Exactly," Satou confirmed. "When I killed Vegeta the Shadow Hero and devoured him, I didn’t just eliminate a threat. I gained his shadow manipulation abilities, his combat experience, his techniques. Every skill he’d spent fifty years developing became mine in an instant." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Lyra’s expression had shifted from shock to calculating understanding. "The hobgoblin warchief. The bandits. Every enemy you’ve faced and defeated—"
"I’ve absorbed their power," Satou finished. "Every battle makes me stronger in ways that normal progression can’t match. It’s why I’ve gone from a weak hobgoblin to someone who can fight demon lord-tier opponents in just three months."
"That’s..." Jessica struggled for words. "That’s an incredibly powerful ability. Probably one of the most dangerous abilities anyone could possess. If the other demon lords knew—"
"They’d either try to recruit me or kill me," Satou said bluntly. "An ability that lets you accumulate power indefinitely by consuming enemies? That’s terrifying. It means I could theoretically become stronger than anyone if I keep defeating and devouring powerful opponents."
He squeezed their hands again, his expression serious. "But there’s more. The memory absorption part of [Devour] is... unpredictable. When I consume someone, I started getting their memories along with everything else. But I don’t get all of them at once, and I can’t control when they surface."
"That’s what happened just now," Lyra realized. "You weren’t having a seizure or being attacked. You were experiencing someone else’s memory."
"Yes," Satou confirmed. "When I devoured Merc Assault after killing him, I absorbed centuries of his experiences and knowledge. But the memories don’t just sit there passively—sometimes they activate spontaneously, pulling me into full sensory experiences of things he witnessed. It’s like living through his life for brief moments."
Jessica’s healer instincts kicked in immediately. "That’s incredibly dangerous! If you’re completely unresponsive during these episodes, you’re vulnerable to attack. And if they can happen at any time without warning—"
"I know," Satou acknowledged. "It’s a significant weakness. But it’s also valuable. Merc Assault knew things that no one else knew. Secrets he’d uncovered during centuries of espionage and assassination work. Those memories contain intelligence that could change everything."
"What did you see this time?" Lyra asked, her tactical mind already shifting to analyze the strategic implications. "It must have been important to trigger such a strong reaction."
Satou looked at both of them, considering how to explain what he’d witnessed. "I saw Merc Assault breaking into Chronus the Timeless’s private chambers and discovering a secret that the Time Lord has kept hidden for over three hundred years."
Both women leaned forward, complete attention focused on him.
"You remember Richard Clay?" Satou asked. "The decay user I fought in the arena months ago? The one Chronus was so desperate to protect that he violated sacred council law?"
